The Colour Of Spring with Orange Yellow Red - An Interview

Simplesmente acima.

***** Interview with Orange Yellow Red *****

Q. When did Orange Yellow Red starts tell us about the history...
Around 2008. I wrote/produced music for other people. I also wrote albums of my own music that were never released and Emma sang on some of them but I never had time to do anything with them. Emma and I were in relationship that had come to an end but we still carried on writing music together.. It was a difficult and intense time emotionally but we knew we had something special musically.. So somehow through this we carried on. I put some demos on myspace and the positive reaction was overwhelming..with that came offers from various record labels which gave us the confidence to make and finish the album that became the Saint Marie Records release 'A Rose Made of Galaxies’.

Q: Who are your influences?
Really any music that is real and has a soul to it. We like pop music and melody, but not too throwaway I suppose..I like the layers of a record to slowly reveal themselves over repeated listening..sometime years of listening!

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
Magazine - Correct Use Of Soap
The Cure - Head On The Door/Pornography
Radio Dept. - Pet Grief
Talk Talk - The Colour Of Spring

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
We love to play live but we don't get enough opportunity to do it unfortunately.

Q. How do you describe Orange Yellow Red´s sounds?
People have categorised it as ‘dreampop' or ‘shoegaze’ and that’s fine, but we never thought of it in those terms at all ourselves. To us it is just pop music with soul and some kind of depth and complexity…just like the music we like…hopefully.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
All our music is self-recorded in our own studio which is a converted train carriage on the beach by the sea. We demo it then I(Philip) usually lay down the drum tracks first and then we build on the top of it till its finished. We record the old way, with tape machines and recorders rather than computers..not that we are against computers..just not the way we find conducive to get to a pleasing result.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
We loved The Invisible's last album(Rispah). Buy it!

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Oh that would have to be toss up between Killing Joke and Abba!

Q: What´s the plans for future….
Just finished a track for the new Saint Marie Record compilation entitled ‘Static Waves 3’ which is due for release very soon and, the limited vinyl edition of our album “A Rose Made of Galaxies’ is also available now on the same label. Hopefully more new recordings and playing live next year.
