Hate Me For This with Colic - An Interview

Meghann Dyke e Jimmy Turner formam o melancólico e sonhador Colic.

Diversas demos podem e devem ser saboreadas sem pressa e preferivelmente em seguidas vezes. Isso tudo para sentir a essência de um duo que muito provavelmente, e, infelizmente deve ter uma vida breve, muito breve, o motivo? Bem melhor ler a entrevista...

Uma pena porque a conexão musical entre Meghann e Jimmy é de uma sinergia imensa.

***** Interview with Colic *****

Q. When did Colic start? Tell us about the history...
Meghann: COLIC started one late night after I begged Jimmy to let me come over to his house to jam. He always made beautiful music and sent it to me when l was feeling bad or just when I needed a pick-me-up. We've been friends for 5 or so years and I'm grateful to have been able to make some tasty jams with the best musician/friend I've known.

Q: Who are your influences?
Meghann: Daniel Romano, Angel Olsen, Avett Brothers, The Microphones, The Strokes

Q. Make a list of 5 of the best albums of all time…
Meghann:
Weezer-Blue Album,
Avett Brothers-I and Love and You,
Marissa Nadler-July,
Circa Survive-Blue Sky Noise,
Bee Gees-Saturday Night Fever,
Beach Boys-Pet Sounds

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Meghann: I've never played live, and COLIC won't be unless we figure out a way to tour with two people living on opposite sides of the country :( Jimmy is back in North Carolina and I relocated to California to be with my boyfriend. Jimmy plays with his other band though! It Looks Sad

Q. How do you describe Colic´s sounds?
Meghann: it's very dreamy, and spooky, and amateur. I've never sung, and Jimmy has made me a better musician without realizing it. Our songs can have the saddest lyrics, and we will somehow figure out a way to make them sound a little "lighter", and better able to identify with.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Meghann: a fuck load of box wine, and watching trash tv, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, or taking a walk. It took a bit for me to figure out how to be able to record my voice without getting too much background noise in the track, but even with random ambience we were very happy with our scratch tracks recorded in Jimmy's bedroom!

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Meghann: Therightovers.bandcamp.com (my new band), It Looks Sad/Tara Oaks (Jimmy's two other bands, It Looks Sad has a bandcamp!) and as always, Daniel Romano. If you guys like heavier music, check out Southern CA's local hardcore bands Seance and Slow Decay. They rip.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Meghann: The Avett Brothers and The Animals' House of The Rising Sun

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Meghann: playing music, hopefully finding a job in a museum, and making Jimbo Slice fly out to CA to write music with me.

Q: Any parting words?
Meghann: I miss Jimmy, and COLIC has three demo's out that we wrote in 4 months; we just hope our music hits people as hard as it hit us. Always take that leap and if you want to sing, then fucking do it.
