Blue Moon with SunRooms - An Interview

Dois trabalhos no currículo, o debute "My Life In A Bush Of Ghosts" e o mais recente "Blue Moon". Ambos seguem pelo mesmo caminho de sonhos costurados entre canções simples, quase lo-fi e obviamente feitas para apaixonados.

O indie pop em sua melhor faceta.

***** Interview with SunRooms *****

Q. When did SunRooms start? Tell us about the history...
SunRooms started around the middle of last year when I was graduating college. I was listening to a lot of Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils, etc. and naturally I started listening to more obscure indie artists from there, especially 80's stuff. Around the same time I started using a new music software (Ableton) and I found I could mimic a lot of old retro synths and effects that those old avant garde indie musicians were using. I think I finished my first album in about a months time and it just kind of sat on the shelf for a bit because it was so different from the other stuff I was making.

Q: Who are your influences?
My influences range anywhere from Bowie to Howlin Wolf to Joy Division to Syd Barrett, etc. I'm really all over the place with music. I like to listen to a lot of genres. I think everyone should explore and expand their musical tastes. I think they'd be surprised if they gave more music a chance.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Wew, five albums of all time? That is really tough..here's five quick ones off the top of my head:
The Strokes - Is This It
Cemeteries - The Wilderness
Midlake - Antiphon
Velvet Underground - White Light, White Heat
Led Zeppelin - III

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I love playing live, I wish I could get up on stage everyday.

Q. How do you describe SunRooms sounds?
I'd say SunRooms draws from a lot of 80's melancholy acts like Joy Division or The Smiths but I also think we create a modern sound with all the delay and reverb. I've heard people say the music sounds like post-punk and others say it is chill wave. To me, it doesn't matter what people call it as long as they're listening.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
All the songs are recorded in the living room of my apartment. I just sit down, write out a guitar or synth line and then map out the drums via Ableton. After the base tracks are put down, I just build from there; adding leads or vocals. Whatever "needs" to be there, you know? All the music is produced and mixed in the same fashion, all of the music is self-released.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
There are a ton of great new bands out there right now. Here are some that i'm really excited about:
-Black Marble
-Spires
-Total Control
-The Growlers
-Bosnian Rainbows
-Campfires

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Cover version of a band? Culture Club most definitely haha

Q: What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to either blow up in music or blow all my money on traveling the world. Both sound chaotic and worthwhile.

Q: Any parting words?
That old Charles Bukowski quote...find what you love and let it kill you. Yeah that's fine.
