Seguindo a lenda do TBTCI, é hora de estampar nessas páginas o mais recente distúrbio vindo da Dinamarca, DOR Nr.13,, é ontém veio ao mundo o EP de estréia dos caras,

Q. When did DOR NR 13 starts, tell us about the history.. .
I had been in and out of bands the last 15 years or so and suddenly found myself all alone with a bunch of songs in my native tongue. I started recording on my home computer the best way I could with what I had, and played it to a few people, who all said they really liked it. I had no good reason to doubt them and thought maybe I didn't need to go and be all secretive about it. So I decided to share the sounds and started to book some gigs.

Q: Who are your influences?
Everything from Beatles, Dylan, Stones and Syd Barrett to Black Sabbath, The Seeds, 13th Floor elevators, The Byrds, Stooges, Black Flag, Flipper, Sonic Youth, Jesus and Mary Chain, Boris, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Cold Sun and Suicide etc. Some country too, especially Hank Williams. And obviously Danish psych stuff from the sixties like Steppeulvene, Alrune Rod, Furekåben and Povl Dissing But also heavier stuff like Sleep, Burzum and Electric Wizard. A while back I was even into new R'n'B stuff like Frank Ocean and The Weeknd...somehow that got me started writing lyrics in Danish(!!??) So Everything really,even shit music I guess...bad music just inspires you to do better, right!?

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
So far I've mostly done intimate acoustic solo gigs, which is nice 'cause it really makes the words stand out, but I can't wait to have a real band behind me and start making some noise.

Q. How do you describe DOR NR 13´s sounds?
Like a reverb drencehed, fuzzed up blend of dark side psychedelia, 60's beat, burnt out hippie folk, proto doom and postpunk paranoia, would be the sales pitch I guess. But in my head it's also linked with ancient scandinavian shamanic practice. Actually "Dør nr.13" (Danish for "Door number 13") was a theme park ride in Tivoli Gardens (Danish amusement park) back in the 90's, that traded the usual ghosthouse Skeletons and spiderwebs for a warped hospital setting with babies in test tubes and dismembered corpses. So there's also that...the amusement park, carnivale thing about it. Like a roller coaster ride through a nightmare, a bad trip or some dark twisted fantasy...or something like that, I dunno...

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
This far it has just been me in my home studio. Usually starts with a rough sketch of just acoustic guitar and vocals. To get a basic idea of the form. Then i get the beat going, drums, bass and main riff stuff then i Fill in with layers of guitars, percussions, organs and Whatever comes in handy. Drums are mostly midi and sometimes i use samples. Other times i just bang, clap and stomp my Way through things. Sometimes i have most of the words Down and a pretty distinct idea of Where the song should go before i start recording. Sometimes i don't and just start recording to see Where the sounds take me...


Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Don't know how new, but i quite like some Black Angels, Dungen and Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats. Really like those GOAT at the mo and also a lot of the new Dansih guys like Narcosatanicos, Spids Nøgenhat, Baby In Vain and The Wands. also EL-P if you feel like getting your rap on. Though more on the progressive side (I like gangsta rap too!) there's some pretty mindblowing shit in that dudes catalouge. But I'm not really hip to what's happening anymore...rather just give my old worn out Elvis and Beatles vinyls another spin than tune in on the word of the web.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I've already done a rewrite in Danish of Novacane by Frank Ocean. My version is a downbeat slow folk ballad though. And a Steppeulvene track "Til Nashet" in a sort of a doomy gloomy Back Angels kind of version. I'm pretty sure there'll be more soon....maybe even an entire covers album, who knows!?

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Next week we release a 4 four track EP (our debut so to speak) digitally and on homemade CD's in very limited numbers. Then we go on a small tour of Denmark. First gig is Aarhus Psych Fest. Next one is at Drone in Copenhagen, which will be the first time we'll get to play as a proper band with electric guitars, drums and all. In november I'll do a gig with my dear friend Kværn who is an amazing Danish rapper/songwriter/producer. We'll also be recording and releasing a low-fi folk/acoustic punk all analouge mixtape cassette together. Next up is recording a whole album, which hopefully we'll be able to release some time next year.

Q: Any parting words?
Hey wait, we should talk about Os Mutantes! They were from São Paolo too, right ?? fucking amazing, my favourite Brazilian band I think

Drive Blind with Clustersun - An Interview



Realmente a quantidade de boas bandas que tem surgido na Itália é impressionante, Be Forest, Soviet Soviet, Rev Rev Rev entre outras, e as grande maioria das bandas tem trazido fortes fortes influências de pós punk clássico aliadas com o shoegaze da The Scene, e é exatamente isso que encontramos no debute do Clustersun, todavia mais dançante, grooves de Madchester são perceptíveis no álbum dos caras o que dá um ar mais cool ainda.

Q: When did Clustersun starts, tell us about the history...
A: CLUSTERSUN are basically four long time and really close friends that enjoy making loud noises together. Everything started at the beginning of 2013, when all us four began to rehearse together just for having fun and playing loud. Very loud! We instantly found a wonderful feel and interplay between us: that comfortable sensation of speaking the same musical language, with cranked amps, reverbs and eyes pointed at our feet. So our strong human interconnection and common musical background helped a lot in moving things really fast. We soon selfproduced our first song, "Be Vegetal" and put it on SoundCloud. Luckily it was listened and appreciated by the wonderful Dave Allison of U.S. indie label Custom Made Music: he included it in CMM Summer Sampler, a compilation of shoegaze, post-punk, psych, garage from great acts of all over the world. That pushed things really up and was a big spotlight for us. A few weeks later we signed with italian indie label Seahorse Recordings, run by underground legend Paolo Messere: he brought us in the studio at the end of 2013 for recording our first album "Out Of Your Ego", that came out this year in April. One year and half at the speed of light!

Q: Who are your influences?
A: We're all into shoegazey soundscapes, walls of sound, cold wave reverberations, psychedelic journeys, crystal clear dream pop melodies: we grew up and were influenced by these sonic textures. All of us were very lucky to have our parents listening to The Beatles and Pink Floyd instead of more conventional italian music. If you're a kid and vinyls of Ummagamma, Sgt. Pepper, Dark Side Of The Moon, Abbey Road, A Saucerful Of Secrets are on the turntable at home, that definitely set your taste about melody and experimentation and teaches you to become curious in searching new music. When we grew up a very crucial discover were The Velvet Underground: their discography was the starting point to search and know the bands that in a way or another were influenced by them. So we discovered Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus And Mary Chain, Ride, Swervedriver, Pale Saints, Loop, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Cocteau Twins, Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Neu!, Can, PIL, Bauhaus. Basically we could say that the infatuation for shoegaze, dream pop, post-punk, wave, psychedelia, kraut, kosmische musik shaped our music language and, in the end, is the reason because we started a band.

A: So hard to pick only five but we could say:

Q: How do you fell playing alive?
A: On stage is the best place to stay for us! Loudness, adrenaline, the challenge of conquering the audience's attention... Playing live is the thing!

Q. How do you describe Clustersun´s sounds? A: We try to mix shoegaze, dreampop, coldwave and psychedelia with hypnotic-obsessive bass lines, dark and cold drum pattern, a strongly expressive guitar with a range that goes from ambient ethereal mood to fuzz-and-reverb madness, fat analog synths and dreamy vocal melodies.


Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
A: Recording the album was an amazing experience. Our label Seahorse Recordings brought us at Eye&Ear Multimedia Studio in the lovely little town of Fiumedinisi, here in Sicily. We lived there for ten days, a full immersion in music... and in great food! Recording was really fun, easier and faster than we thought, even because we came with good pre-production of all the tracks, made on our own: so we recorded tracks quickly and spent most of time fine tuning sounds and mixes with the help of our producer Paolo Messere and sound engineer Giuseppe Barbera. The final mixes then flew to Chicago for mastering, provided by the legendary Carl Saff. Easy to say that we are really really happy of how "Out Of Your Ego" came out.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
A: We'd like to recommend a few italian bands that really deserve great attention: Be Forest, Brothers in Law, Soviet Soviet, Rev Rev Rev, His Clancyness, Cosmetic, La Casa al Mare, Own Boo. Outside our homecountry bands that we love most are Ummagma, Pinkshinyultrablast, Thud, Skip Skip Ben Ben

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
A: Just a few days ago we've finished recording a cover of a song called "Icehouse" by australian artist Iva Davies, known in the 80's with the monicker Icehouse, as well: it's a wonderful synth-pop tune à la Depeche Mode that we rearranged with our psych-shoegazey touch. We're very happy of how it came out and it represents an interesting preview of our new material's sound. This cover will be featured in a tribute compilation to Australian alternative scene of '80s and '90s, that will be issued by our label between next winter and spring.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
A: We'll strongly push our album "Out Of Your Ego", supporting it with live gigs in and hopefully outside Italy. Also we are yet at work on new material, it's a very productive and inspiring moment for us. We have yet completed a bunch of new songs that are coming out in a grittier, edgier and more aggressive mood compared to the ones on the album.

Q: Any parting words?
A: Never too much reverb. And volume too.

Agora no TBTCI o buraco vai lá pra baixo, bem lá pra baixo, os franceses do My Lovely Underground chegaram ao meu conhecimento através da capa de seu debut que foi feita nada mais nada menos por Nonni Dead ou Jon Saemundur, o gênio por trás do prediletos da criação do caos o Dead Skeletons.

Fora a capa espetacular, o My Lovely Underground é mais do que foda, fritação da melhro qualidade unindo desde Sabbath, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, Scratch Acid, Sonic Youth, VU e simplesmente tudo que foi feito de mais barulhento e esporrento nesses mais de 50 anos de música.

O debute dos caras é como um ácido de efeito rápido e certeiro, luzes cinzentas ou luzes coloridas, alucinações tem inicio já na faixa dde abertura com o apropriado nome de Morphine e daí meus caros não tem volta, é transcender e deixar embriagar.

Provavelmente a revelação de 2014.

Q. When did My Lovely Underground starts, tell us about the history...
q1 . Hey, I am Maxime, I started My Lovely underground in 2012, I was made music by myself for a long time ago, so I decided to start a band. To me, music is not just a passion, I mean, music has changed me, create is a vital thing to me, and I can do it only in music and writing cause these are the only things I can do. At the beginning, I was doing some punk/garage music, these are my first love. When I was 18 years old, I discovered the shoegaze and psychedelic scene, and it was amazing to me, I was listening the velvet underground since I was a kid so I was prepared for that, a kind of slow mental preparation I met Julien in 2013, a huge fan of psych/shoegaze music too, and gave him some demos I made, He liked it, so we asked friends to play with us and started to write some new songs.

Q: Who are your influences?
q2 . We have a lot of influences, but we can say Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, Earth, Scratch Acid, Slint, Ride, Sonic Youth... and more

q4 . Playing live is one of the things we started a band, to me, it's very emotional, this is one of the moment where I feel best, like to fall in love somehow... a mixture of frustration and intense pleasure

Q. How do you describe My Lovely Underground's sounds?
q5 . Well, already, I think we are young to objectively describe our sound, but what we can say, we just try to make something powerful, melodious, with quiet moments mixed with a wall of sound, a lot of distortion, with a pop voice drowned in the noise.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
q6 . Julien and me write ideas and songs on our side, after that, we work together and give some advices to each other, I write lyrics and look for melodies, we work this things with the band, and the whole thing is to go recording the songs before hating them


Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
q7 . Cheatahs, Morgan Delt, and some french bands: Dead Horse One, Jessica 93, Feeling Of Love...

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
q8 . Well, I guess doing covers is very difficult, you have to innovate and don't get a copy of the song, but we played in a gig of velvet underground cover songs.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
q9 . For future, we just wanna play, do some tour, everywhere we can, and recording a new album. Just play music man.

q10 . Life is short, so, do what you really wanna do, and never loose the faith

Q. When did Ghost Actor starts tell us about the history...
Corina: Mahk and I knew each other from earlier collaborations and when he came up with the idea for this project I was very intrigued by the sound he had envisioned. We started developing the songs as a whole and recording them in early 2013.

Q: Who are your influences?
Corina: I didn't consciously bring any of my musical roots into this project, I wanted it to be as pure and unguided as possible. But I enjoy a vast variety of music, let's just name a few who have deeply inspired me as a musician: Björk, Nic Endo, Coil, Camille O'Sullivan...

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Corina: Playing live is an intense experience, I really love it! Being in the moment with the music and the audience often leads to discovering something new within the music and expressing that instantly. It's exciting, like beautiful chaos! Transmitting that feeling of exploration and sharing it with the audience is what makes live shows such an inspiring and gratifying experience for me.

Q. How do you describe Ghost Actor sounds?
Corina: Difficult to describe, it is a special sound, dark, very atmospheric, haunting.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Corina: We recorded and mixed everything in Mahk's home studio, it was often a very spontaneous process.


Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Corina: So many fantastic bands and artists out there! It's beautiful to see so much talent abound! Right now I enjoy Keluar, hausfrau, 1982, Minuit Machine...

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Corina: We made a cover of Durutti Column's "Smile in the Crowd", that turned out really well. Maybe a Coil song could be interesting!

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Corina: We have our debut album UNFOLD coming out Oct 31 on Berlin label aufnahme + wiedergabe and we will be playing a couple of shows across Europe.

Pleamar with Orquídea - An Interview



Lima, Peru, já nos brindou com uma das maiores belezas surgidas pós Slowdive, estou falando do Resplandor, para os iniciados em shoegazing, uma daquelas prediletas desde sempre, o clássico Pleamar foi um dos grandes álbuns lançados em 2008.

E seguindo a trilha do Resplandor, chega a nossos ouvidos Abril o debute dos peruanos do Orquídea, chego a arriscar que daqui uns anos ele terá a mesma importância que tem o Pleamar, Navegando logicamente por nuances de um wall of sound extremamente influência não somente por Resplandor mas é claro temos montes de Slowdive e o Orquídea não nega suas influências, a banda as condensa e as atualiza, dando a cara dos novos tempos ao shoegazing, como eu costumo dizer, shoegazer at the top.

Q. When did Orquidea starts, tell us about the history ...
Orquidea begins in 2003 as a project of Abdel de la Cruz, experiencing more ethereal sounds, but with influences dreem pop of the era and the growing scene Limeña capital of bands with modern influences, in 2004 came to light "Translucent" the first work of the band with a cut dreem pop and recorded entirely by Abdel, which had good reviews on radios, magazines of the period and the total edition taken independently sold to live performances and had the support of Raul Begazo that was part of Orquidea and took the initiative to launch a second album for the year 2014, ten years later, which was recorded in his home studio and edited by HYPE RECORDS Lima all songs were recorded by Raul, with a sound more shoegazing and with the support of guest musicians.

The live performances with the band make me feel the most precious of all musicians, the satisfaction of sharing your art and express it in the way that we like, the shrill sound of guitars and other instruments complement the excitement of communicating with people they came to see you live, it's always a different experience in each presentation.

Q. How do you describe sounds Orquidea's?
The sound of Orquidea is highly influenced by shoegazer 90, with strong, loud guitars, distant voices, ethereal sounds and some great force on their instruments, using some electronics and programming.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
All 12 songs from the album in my personal studio recording: "Carmina Home Studio" in Arequipa, south of Peru, for which use everything in my power and get the sound he wanted for the album, all the virtually hard six months recording and was finally carried HYPE Records in Lima where industrial production disc was made, we have the post production and dissemination of "the Blog of Bam" Mauricio Miranda, who was in charge of the arts disk and marketing it via internet.

I like bands that are giving a personalized style and dreempop shoegazer, through the ruidismo, such as the case of the Italians of "Snow in mexico" by Chileans "Trementina" Brazilian "Bella Infanta" and Peruvians "Puna"

We performed a cover of the legendary Irish band MBV, with the theme "Only Shallow" with guest singer Jessica Lobon, a song personally under the style of music of my choice in the nineties.

Too Dark Park with Spatial Relation - An Interview



Novidade na nova onda da minimal wave, Spatial Relation, duo de NY, que mais parece ter saído diretamente de Berlin, tamanha é a frieza e métrica de sua sonoridade.

Cold minimal wave das mais cinzentas, guiada logicamente por um synth e a sexy e gélida voz de Lissette.

O Spatial Relation tem algumas canções em coletâneas e um split com Xiu, logo menos vem o EP Thoughtcrime e um prometido álbum para quando 2015 chegar, por hora, aqui no TBTCI fiquem mais íntimos do Spatial Relation.

Q. When did Spatial Relation starts tell us about the history...
A: We started Spatial Relation in 2012 as an experiment in creating songs together, based on a shared love of vintage analog synthesizers and dark electronic music.

 Q: Who are your influences?
A: Outside of music itself, our project is heavily influenced by the fields of architecture and architectural theory; modern art and design; literature; and film. Specific influences include the author Thomas Pynchon; architects/designers Archigram, Joe Colombo, and Buckminster Fuller; fashion designer Andre Courreges; the film "Beyond the Black Rainbow"; theories of Carl Jung; choreography by George Balanchine; and the artwork of Bridget Riley and other geometric abstractionists.

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
A: Thus far we have been focused mainly on creating songs in the studio and working on releases; however, we are looking forward to traveling to play some live shows in the near future. We are planning an all-hardware live set with no pre-recorded vocals or instruments.

 Q. How do you describe Spatial Relation sounds?
A: Our sound consists of beat-driven, dark analog electronics with female vocals. We fall loosely in the minimal synth genre but also are influenced by electro, dark 80s/new wave, industrial, and John Carpenter soundtracks.

 Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
A: Our production is very much a DIY affair. The process varies a bit from song to song, but we use a fairly rudimentary setup (no computer) in our home studio and often try to record the instrumentation itself live in one take. Vocals are then multitracked, and sometimes we layer additional synth parts as well. As mentioned, we are heavily into analog synthesizers and drum machines and as a general rule do not use digital sound sources.


 Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
A: We have many talented friends around the world making music that inspires us -- too many to list here. However, we are record collectors and enjoy new releases and reissues from many of the underground labels such as Medical, Peripheral Minimal, Dark Entries, La Forme Lente, DKA, Infravox, Cold Beats, Minimal Wave, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Fabrika, Disko Obscura, and others.

 Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
A: It changes from month to month, but right now our picks would be Ministry, "Over the Shoulder"; The Mood, "Passion in Dark Rooms"; or Information Society, "Running."

Q: What´s the plans for future....
A: We have upcoming releases on several labels. First is an EP called "Thoughtcrime" that will be released very soon in cassette and digital formats. We also are in the final stages of recording our debut LP, which is scheduled to be released on vinyl sometime in 2015. After that we will be focusing on live performance and video production.

Psicodelia espacial da pesada, leia-se Soft Machine, Tangerine Dream, Captain Beefheart, Pink Floyd era Syd Barret e por aí vai os caminhos delirantes do debute dos finlandeses do Octopus Syng, o disquinho atende pelo nome de Reverberating Garden Number 7, dá pra se ligar na trip só pelo sugestivo nome não?

Fora a nostalgia toda, tem uns toque de modernidade aqui e ali, mas o lance do Octopus Syng é entrar naquela máquina do tempo imaginária e sair lá no meio das trips sessentistas e cair de cabeça no ácido sem dó nem piedade, eu só digo o seguinte, boa viagem.

- When did Octopus Syng start, tell us about the history...?


Octopus Syng started as my one man's studio project in summer 1999. I made music in my rehearsal room by myself. I wrote lyrics, music and did arrangements and then I sang and played all the instruments on a record. It was nice but very slow work to make music this way. I made two albums for German "Nasoni Records" label (2004 and 2007) and some "little records" for other labels too. In 2004 I formed a live band to perform Octopus Syng music on a stage, but I still wanted to make records by myself till in the summer 2011 when I realized that I had a so good live band line up, so there's no sense to make records by myself anymore. Then I buried my one-man's band idea and we started to make our first real band album in October 2011 and it finally saw the daylight in June 2014. It's called "Reverberating Garden Number 7" and it is our first and new band album.

Who are your influences?


My personal influences have changed a lot during all these years. When I started to make Octopus Syng music there were a lot of Indian music influences and plenty of 60's USA West Coast folk influences too. Earlier on, I used to be mostly influenced by 60's psychedelic UK / USA scene but nowadays I have found something new to listen to as well. Maybe you can hear some influences from 60's French YeYe music, early 20th century strange classical music and early 60's pop music too in the future. Will you hear these influences in Octopus Syng's music in the future, that's is another question.

-How do you feel playing alive?
I love to play alive, but unfortunately we haven't got many gigs these days, but I have to confess I have been quite lazy to get them, because it's hard and frustrating trying to get gigs in Finland for this kind of band we are.

-How do you describe the Octopus Syng Sound?
If you mean our songs, I can say that our songs are mostly 60's inspired pop / rock and folk music where you can find sometimes some other musical dimensions too. If you mean our sound itself, our sounds are often very reverberating and quite lo-fi. Nowadays I try to find us some 30's-40's very mystic lo-fi sounds in our songs. I'd love to do very psychedelic music that sounds like it was made in 30's or 40's. I don't know what fascinates me in very old lo-fi sound, but it has always fascinated me a lot. I have always thought that "time" is the most psychedelic dimension that you can understand with your normal senses. There are mostly 60's sounds in "Reverberating Garden" album still, but maybe you can hear this 30's-40's sound in Octopus Syng's music in the future, but we will have stereo sound, not mono anyway.


-Tell us about the process of recording songs.
 

We record all our songs in our rehearsal room. There are two good reasons for that: time and money. If we’d go to a real commercial studio to record our songs we’d have to record our songs very quickly because we have no money for "living" there. Maybe we could get a little bit more professional sounds there, but this kind of sounds are not necessarily the sounds we want and we’d not have enough time to try out different things, so rehearsal room is good for us unless we are like The Beatles and can use Abbey Road Studio 24/7 for months, heh heh...
We usually record our songs with very old dynamic and crystal microphones, mics from 30's to 70's. If you want old sounds you have to use old amps, mics etc. too. I often try many recording technics to see what works and what doesn’t. I look up to old-time genius producers like Phil Spector, George "Shadow" Morton, Norman Smith, George Martin and etc. and I wanted to get such brilliant sounds on Octopus Syng's records as they got on their records they produced, but I know I have a long way to go.

-Which new bands you recommend?
I mostly listen to old stuff, so I don't know very much about nowadays music, but some good new bands I have heard are example Jacco Gardner and Crystal Thoughts. I know the world is full of good bands nowadays too, but I don't have time to search for the new good bands so I listen to the old ones.

-What band would you love to make a cover version by?
We don’t have any special bands that we’d like to cover. We mostly want to make our own material. If there sometimes is a good song for cover, why not, but it's about good songs and not about the band.

-What's the plan for future?
We are going to release one 10-inch mini LP what will include our two EP’s that we originally planned to release as two 7" EP’s, but then we realized that we could put them both for one 10-inche mini LP. One EP on A-side and another EP on B-side. Maybe it comes out next spring/summer. Then we have our next album half ready too. If we got it out at the end of next summer it would be great, but we haven't talked about it with Mega Dodo yet.

M.Bryo & D.M.T, pode soar familiar para os iniciados as ondas primais do minimal wave, e electro dos 80´s, nada mais nada menos do que Mr. Mark Burghgraeve, belga de nascença e com quilômetros de estrada na música, até no Klinik pra se ter uma ideia ele já entrou e saiu, trabalhou com Vomito Negro e outros tantos nomes de respeito.

Atualmente atende pela alcunha de Somnambulist e despeja em nossas mentes a arte de colocar todos para dançar, um dreamy minimal pop que altíssimo nível e elegância acima de qualquer suspeita.

Q. When did Somnambulist start tell us about the history..
A: It was after M.Bryo & D.M.T. early 80-ties. I was makiing theatre and film music and was involved in the underground Art-scene of Antwerp and had just bought a DX7. It sounded so different from what I did with M.Bryo that I decided to bring it under another alias. I wasn't restricted by the live performance of it and opened a new way to experiment with recording techniques. The first project I did was thus an experimental, ambient-minimal kind of thing, accompaning a theatre play by Guy Cassiers we did at that time, based on "The Cement Garden" by Ian Mc Ewan and some pieces from a short movie " Road Rabbit" by Alex Van Geet: the result was "a Kite of Glass"
After that, I started working on "The Withered Land". I worked together with Niki Mono, Kiran Singh and Mike Shelter from the Brussels-scene, appearing on some of their work at did some more film & theatre projects. Later, I made a compilation of some of the music from that period, together with some more recent works on "Theatre of Snails". I left KLINIK, due to some bad live-experiences and focused on my solo-stuff. Later, I became their live techician on tours in the Netherlands, Germany, Switserland, France, Sweden & Hungary together with other Belgian bands, Insekt & Vomito Negro.

Much later, around 2005 I made "Piano Debris" and more recently "Collage" and founded The Thepaphone.

Q: Who are your influences?
Brian Eno, John Foxx, Wire, Phillip Glass, Tubeway Army, Der Plan, The Residents, Dark Day...

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…

Q. How do you feel when playing live?
Mainly relaxed and focused. Once performed with a hernia, that felt painfull ;-)

Q. How do you describe Somnambulist sounds?
Most people say it's dark. I don't think so. I like to think it sounds unusual, away from the mainstream.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I used several techniques, from tape to digital and several synths & real instruments. The first digital recordings where done on a commodore 64, with Jellinghaus midi soft & hardware, later I used Reason on a Mac. Nowadays, I record in Logic and only use virtual synths & loops and leave the real instruments to real musicians (I don't see myself as a real musician)

Rarely, I start with an idea & Lyrics. Most of the time it grows organicaly. It like to see it as painting with sounds.


Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
"Dark Poem" & "For Greater Good" certainly deserve some attention. They're friends of mine who have more or less a connection with Somnambulist.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Allready made some: Warm Leatherette (The Normal) with KOYT! (another project of mine), "Bella Lugosi's dead" (Bauhaus) & "I should have known better" (Wire) also KOYT!.

I also did a load of versions of evergreens under the name of Max B. Joseph, but they're mainly distributed among friends, due to copyright, not to be found anywhere ;-)

Q: What´s the plans for future....
More collaborations, more music, more video's, more vieuws.

O fantasma de Jim Morrisson permeia todo o debute dos dinamarqueses, sim outra banda da Dinamarca que impressiona, no caso o Morgan Square, como estava falando, Jim Morrisson parece assombrar o álbum Evil Red Sun do início ao fim.

Mantras e mais mantras escuros e sombrios, apocalípticos e psicodelicos, as poesias musicadas voltam a tona com o Morgan Square e para o deleite deste que vos escreve, o resgate dessa sonoridade é mais do que motivo de idolatria.

Q. When did Morgan Square start? Tell us about the history…
We don’t imagine our story being that much different from the one you’d get from any other band.

Morgan Square began in late 2011/early 2012 when Simon, drummer, and Lasse, lead singer, met and decided to start a psychedelic inspired band, fueled by a love for bands akin to the Doors. They made an online notice with enough fantastic adjectives to draw the attention of guitarist and keyboardist, Lasse, who in turn brought in his former school buddy, Emil, on bass.

Our latest addition, just joining this summer, is our long-time friend and jam-buddy Thomas who will be handling the weirder parts of the band's sound, including but not limited to singing saw and various woodwind instruments.

'Evil Red Sun', 2013, independent.
'When Kristofar is Lost in the Woods', 2014, Raum Eins Records.

Q: Who are your influences?
It might be easier to answer the question as ’what are our influences?’. We are inspired by what we consider to be the most powerful 'instrument' in music, something that has almost become an archetype for us as a band. A sound that is almost levitating and slowly collects and compresses itself until the forces are released as an explosion. It is like a kind of love, an intensity, that excludes everything surrounding it... Furthermore we are inspired by smokes and microwave pizzas.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
This is a hard task; there is music all around us, and it is unfair only to select five small collections of it.

We tried to come up with a list collectively which failed. Therefore, the albums we selected are simply the ones we can always return to, no matter how much time has passed since last encounter. One from each band member:

Q. How do you feel playing live?
The best nights are when it feels like everything, every instrument, is coming together as one, and when you do not even think about the music or which part is coming up next; you just live it.

The most important aspect is the energy that every member puts into his instrument combined with our collective understanding of the music and the communication throughout the performance.

So all in all it feels good.

Q. How do you describe Morgan Square´s sounds?
Played by hand, raw and intense, psychedelic but accessible, chaotic but coherent; a sound that shows our complete dependency on each other in the exact moment of playing, which is also what we aim for in our recordings.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
Even back when we recorded our first EP, 'Evil Red Sun', we wanted to play the songs live in the studio meaning that as many instruments as possible are recorded simultaneously. Our current rehearsal space, Cable Hell Studio, allows just that. We already have our instruments and amps set up as we like, and once the mics are in place the only thing left is to press 'record'.

'When Kristofar is Lost in the Woods', was recorded on our own Fostex 16 track analog tape recorder with the help of Jonathan from the band Spökraket whom we share the studio with. Recording (and mixing) with Jonathan always end out in these crazy all-night burnout sessions, so prepare to call in sick the next day.



Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Aarhus has a blooming underground scene, and we would be doing you a disservice in recommending anything else. Be sure to check out:

Narcosatanicos - Noisy, noisy, punky heavy noise. Narcosatanicos have recently released their debut LP which contains what is best described as 'the best simulation of the rarely explored bad trip'. Three guitars droning along to a cacophonous saxophone, all of this barely held together by energetic drums and bass.

Cable Hell Studio - Quite a few bands have recorded here so far, and they all have something interesting about them. Our 'roommates' Spökraket and Acid Twin have both released several records of various moods and genres; some are noisy and others are incredibly beautiful. Spökraket usually (a word seldom used in connection to this particular scene) hand out long and fleshed out recordings filled with layers, and Acid Twin has a tendency to create more minimalistic but equally breathtaking pieces.

Raum Eins - Event manager, record label, and a stone pillar of the Aarhus underground scene. Just take a look at their Facebook page, and you will see that psych rock isn't their only specialty; they have arranged shows with anything from electronic music to punk to black metal. They are always a great media for checking out new bands in the scene.

Q: Which bands would you love to cover?
This might sound a bit out of the ordinary, but we have recently become infatuated with the soundtrack from Disney's 'Dumbo', especially a song called 'Pink Elephants on Parade'. Give it a listen and take notice of its incredibly psychedelic sound.

Q: What´s the plans for future...
We always strive towards understanding each other even better in order to develop as a band. We want to be able to simply take what inspires us and create a song from it. The aim is to become so much in tune that the terms 'idea' and 'song' are indistinguishable. Playing internationally is also a current objective for us.

I´m Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired with Distortion Girls - An Interview



Estava deveras ansioso para que esta entrevista finalmente acontecesse porque desde que tomei conhecimento do Distortion Girls eu chapei por completo afinal não é todo dia que você se depara com uma banda que sem nenhum registro oficial solta de cara um mantra chamada Distortion Girls com mais de 17 minutos de experimentalismo denso, caótico e brutal, logo depois Party mais de 10 minutos evocando fantasmas de Michael Gira, Lydia Lunch, aliados a cena de Bristol dos 90´s, leia-se Flying Sauce Attack, Crescent, Movietone, Third Eye Foundation e dai meus caros, virou objeto de adoração nestas páginas.

Em breve sai o debut, mas que o estrago já foi feito, foi, banda recomendada para mentes perturbadas e definitivamente NÃO RECOMENDADO A INDIE KIDS e FOFINHOS de plantão.

When did Distortion Girls starts tell us about the history...
We've been playing together in various bands since high school, which is now 18 years ago, so we're quite the old ladies now. First it was in a really bad, very straight rock band, then some sort of instrumental noise rock thing, then an improvised drone/folk/doom-outfit before settling in 2010 in Distortion Girls on an approach we now in retrospect seems to have worked toward the whole time, based on a shared love of repetition and the clash between melody and noise. (Of course it's never a straight story, and along the way there's been projects ranging from psychedelic folk to lesbian wedding bands also…)

Who are your influences?
Well, we love music, so basically all and everything. We are children of the 90s, so a lot of the exiting stuff happening in the beginning of the decade has definitely been an influence, especially the music from Bristol around such great bands as Pram, Crescent, Flying Saucer Attack, Amp and Third Eye Foundation. Another early 90s influence was the Belgian scene around the label Heaven Hotel with bands like dEUS, Moondog Jr., and Kiss My Jazz. And then you get older and dig backwards, and realize all the magical stuff happening in the 60s and 70s, where records just sounded so much better than today. There's too much to mention, but late Beatles, all Velvet Underground, and most Bowie and Neil Young (up till the 80s) are shared favorites. Finally godlike genius Michael Gira (Swans, Angles of Light etc. etc.) has always been a great great inspiration as songwriter, composer, musician, producer and label head.

How do you fell playing live?
Excited and scared. It's wonderful when people dance, which happens far to rarely. Our most fun concerts yet has been at a couple of psychedelic multimedia happenings in Malmö organized by the lovely people in Klubb Kristallen, and a show at a LGBT film festival with video projections and male go-go dancers in rubber masks.

How do you describe Distortion Girls´ sounds?
In one sentence? Endless one-chord slow-motion noise disco.

Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
We are lucky that Tanja, our guitar player, is quite the sound geek collecting microphones, FX boxes and recently an old analog mixer, so we have been able to work on recording and mixing our debut album ourself at Bitch House, our rehearsal space/home studio. We recorded the songs live back in November 2013, and has since been busy with overdubs and mixing, aiming for getting the album out somewhere in spring 2015.


Which new bands do you recommended?
Well, interested readers should definitely check out our evil twin sister broken pop project Boy On Boy, who released their debut album last year: http://boyonboy.bandcamp.com/ - it really doesn't sound like anything else in the world!

Apart from that, we've been quite blown away by our friend and collaborator Søren Meisner's new band Rat-Alarm, who does something very sexy with overdriven synths and minimal drum machines. Take a listen here:https://www.facebook.com/ratalarm

Finally we are long time fans of the amazing performance artist Miss Fish, who also runs the live art venue Warehouse9, which among other things houses some of the more interesting parts of the Copenhagen queer scene. Which bands you love to made a cover version?
In our old drone/folk/doom band (as well as the lesbian wedding band) we did a cover of Boys Boys Boys by Sabrina, which would be great to do as Distortion Girls also. It's such a beautiful song if you set it free from the 80s trash-pop-hell where is usually resides. Erotica by Madonna has some very nice lyrics it also could be interesting to do a version of one day.

What´s the plans for future?
Hopefully to be able to release our debut album in the spring on double vinyl. We've been working together with the amazing photographer/video artist (and singer in Rat-Alarm) Søren Meisner on a series of videos (found here:http://vimeo.com/channels/distortiongirls) and he has made some incredible artwork we're looking forward to see printed up big on a gatefold cover. Apart from that we hope get opportunities to play more concerts, hopefully also outside of Denmark, and preferably with male go-go dancers once again at some point...

Love Songs On The Radio with Mean Red Spiders - An Interview



Mean Red Spiders, soa estranho a você? Talvez sim, talvez não, o fato é que desde 1993 esses canadenses de Toronto fez permeando as mentes com um shoegazer folk e muito de dreampop, muitas formações se passarem até lançarem oficialmente Places you call home isso lá em 1998, muito já fizeram desde então, tocando com gente do naipe de BJM, Blonde Redhead, Mojave 3 e por ai vai, até chegaram ao belíssimo I am the sea lançado em julho deste ano.

Um álbum pra alma, ecos de Mojave 3, Mazzy Star, VU, ótimo para se ouvir em casa, ou melhor ainda, passeando e sentindo a música vendo pessoas e contemplando a vida.

Q. When did Mean Red Spiders starts tell us about the history...
Well, we live in Toronto Canada, a cold city for 8 months of the year, 20 years ago it was not the same place it is now, now its all tall building and building cranes and a Mosaic of cultures from all over the world, Back then it was grey and dirty and not much in the way of music. Mostly country tinged rock bands playing in just a few clubs. Lisa Nighswander ( singer, bassist), David Humphreys (guitars) and myself, Greg Chambers (guitars) worked at record store on Yonge Street, the main drag of Toronto. This was the late 80s, early 90s and Toronto was unique in that its close to American but historically tied to England so the music we were listening to was a great mix, Husker Du, The Replacements, Sonic Youth, The Pixies from the States and Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine from Great Britain. Great Music and we saw them all live. From there we started a band, wanting to push the sonic textures of guitar as loud as possible, but keep the songs sweet. We added Adam Rosen on Drums and Minesh Mandoda on Effects Etc. And had ourselves a rocking band!

Q: Who are your influences?
Aside from the above bands, personally I was influenced by bands like The Feelies, Spacemen 3, 13th Floor Elevators

When the audience is with you, like I'm in heaven, when they ain't, like I'm in Hell

Q. How do you describe Mean Red Spiders sounds?
A Juxtaposition of insanely loud guitars and loops and lovely sweet vocals an attempt to convey the feeling of being altered by sheer noise on the mind


Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
The fiirst album was recorded by David Newfeld ( he is well known for recording and being a part of Broken Social Scene) at StarsandSons Studios, we had already recorded the backing tracks on analog tape and brought them to Newfeld who was one of the first all digital studios in Toronto. A lot of time was spent synchronizing the tracks which gave the album a unique feel, Dave would work all night processing the guitars to make them sound like swirls of noise. Live, David Humphreys Guitars sound like a train going by right next to your ears so we had to come up with a way to convey that feeling without the overwhelming crunch of guitars, Newfeld work very hard to make that happen, once we had the music, Lisa added the vocals. Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I like a lot of electronic music, The Field, Clippin, Container, in the Shoe-gazing category, I like Sunny Day in Glasgow, been enjoying some great Doom Metal like Sleep and Yob and Pallbearer, I recommend Sturgil Simpson new album, Pere Ubu's Carnival of Souls, Wildest Dream is a good one, also Ty Segall

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Ha! Already have The Kinks - No Return Beach Boys - Feel Flows Bacarach-Trains and Bpats and Planes

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We keep making music, we have another band called Ghostlight, which is all improvisational, members come and go we have worked up new songs for another Mean Red Spiders album, we will see where that goes....

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for the interview. always nice to hear from someone who likes our music and we hope to have some new material for everyone to hear in the not to distant future.

The World After The Future with Police des Moeurs - An Interview



Um dos mais promissores grupos do revival da minimal wave é o Police des Moeurs, canadenses de Montreal com um álbum absolutamente sensacional, o homônimo lançado ano passado pela espertíssima Mannequin Records.

Em seu debute o Police des Moeurs coloca todo mundo pra pista, os bpms são sempre dançantes e sedutores, um disco irrepreensível do início ao fim, de longe lembra um pouco o OMD em outras evoca o New Order e muito do synth francês dos 80´s.

Difícil vai ser a gente descolar um inferninho para iniciados onde o Police des Moeurs certamente seria hit absoluto.

Q. When did Police des moeurs starts, tell us about the history...
It started in 2010, basically as a one man studio project. I would do pretty much all the stuff and ask my friend Anouk to help with vocals as I don't really like to sing and I enjoy female voices, especially for this kind of music. That's basically the idea behind our first few recordings.

At some point, I figured it would be nice to do shows, so I asked Fred for help since I've played with him in another project previously. He knows more that I do about how to transpose all my studio ideas in a live setting. After a few shows, we added Catherine, replaced by Cristine in 2013.

Since the beginning, we released plenty of records and played many shows, including a european tour last summer.

Q: Who are your influences?
Mmm, it's really hard to tell as there are so many. A lot them aren't really related to Police des Moeurs musically, but I guess it shows in some ways in our approach. More specifically, for Police des moeurs, I would say our influences are synth pop and post punk from the late 70's and early 80's, as well as early EBM and industrial.

Hooo well, it's really hard to do such a list. But let's try.

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
I love it, but my main interest is creating songs in the studio.

Q. How do you describe Police des moeurs´ sounds?
Minimal and raw synth pop,


Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I usually lay a basic drum track and I try to find a satisfying bass part.That's the foundation of the song. I first work on the song itself, not on the sounds or ambiance.

Then I add melodies, adjust the structure, add drums fills. When all of this is stable, I re-record everything with the proper synths, be it at my own place, or at Fred's place because he has other synths. Then I write lyrics and add the vocal tracks and some more atmospheric sounds if needed.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Some of the stuff I checked recently that I really liked is L'Avenir, Image of Life and Container.

From Montreal : Effet Werther, Void Republic, Low Factor, Le Fruit Vert.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I'd like to make a cover of Sergei Prokofiev's Scythian Suite, but I guess that won't never happen

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We're working on a tape with punk and hardcore covers and on our second LP.

Rusholme Ruffians with Ruffians - An Interview

Rusholme Ruffians é um clássico dos Smiths de um dos grandes álbuns de sempre o Meat is Murder, daí quando uma banda inicia seus trabalhos sendo um cover de Smiths com o nome da canção soa meio esquisito, mas daí tira-se o Rusholme e fica então somente Ruffians, quarteto da Flórida que tem em sua vocalista o ponto crucial da banda, diga-se aí que Debbie Harry e a Blonde influenciaram muito a garota talvez muito mais do que Morrissey/Marr, a temática é mais pos punk um mix de Siouxsie e Debbie Harry.

Depois do debute de 2011 com o sugestivo nome de Rusholme Ruffians, claro, os caras mandaram um ep no ano passado mais interessante ainda, o homônimo ep tem mais punch ainda e é mais visceral.

Prometem novo material pro ano que vem, e tomará que venha mais visceralidade ainda.

Q. When did Ruffians starts tell us about the history...
OIi!! RUFFIANS started out as Rusholme Ruffians, and were a Smiths/Morrissey tribute act. Nicole was a girl Morrissey. There are a few Smiths tributes out there, but not female fronted ones. Once we got tired of singing Smiths songs after about a year, we started writing original music.

Q: Who are your influences?
King Crimson, Smiths, Blondie, Bad Religion, Blur, Queen

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Nicole loves it and likes making eye contact and making sure everyone has a good time. Jay likes making sure everything sounds good.

Q. How do you describe Ruffians´ sounds?
It’s hard to say one single band. Jay sounds like Brian May or Robert Fripp. Nicole sounds like Debbie Harry or Gwen Stefani or a girl Freddie Mercury or Lady Gaga.



Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We rehearse the songs and play them out and see which ones people like. Then Jay will use Cubase and arrange the songs and get everything setup to record the new songs.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
None! Maybe the newest Johnny Marr album. Tame Impala. Trans Am.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Well since we started out as a Smiths/Morrissey tribute, probably not more Smiths songs. We’ve covered Depeche Mode a few times in the past, and Roxy Music, and Queen. We like to cover songs from bands that we are influenced by. We have Queen’s “Son and Daughter” in our live set right now, and we are enjoying that. Nicole wants to cover Pet Shop Boys, anything and everything by Pet Shop Boys right now.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Recording and releasing a new album in 2015.

When The Sun Hits with The Golden Awesome - An Interview




A Nova Zelândia já nos brindou com inúmeras bandas para se amar eternamente, caso do Chills, Bailterspace. Bats e outras maravilhas, e eis que me deparo recentemente com outra belíssima banda daquelas terras o The Golden Awesome, que perpetua um shoegazer clássico misturado logicamente com seus ancestrais musicais, muito de Chills e Bailterspace o Golden Awesome leva consigo, é só chegar o debute de 2011 Autumn, um supersônico disco atolado em distorções e os vocais lá no último nível servindo como outro instrumento para a candura raivoso da banda.

Prometem material novo em breve, e é exatamente o que este que vos escreve aguarda, outro exemplar ruidosamente tenro.

Q. When did The Golden Awesome start, tell us about the history...
Well we all love shoegaze but our real roots lie in the music scene of Dunedin/New Zealand, which is where we all started playing in bands. Sometime in the late 2000s it suddenly seemed OK to play big loud dreamy shoegazey stuff ourselves rather than just tell everyone how much we loved it.

Q: Who are your influences?
Well we all love shoegaze but our real roots lie in the indie rock of Dunedin. Ultimately it's bands like the Chills, the Clean, the Bats, Bailterspace, the 3Ds, Skeptics, Straightjacket Fits, Look Blue Go Purple, the Verlaines and many more that helped us figure out how to play music together.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Well we all love shoegaze and Flying Nun but there's so much more to life! Here's a few to pick from: Sister. The Queen is Dead. Tusk. 69 Love Songs. Fire of Love. Things We Lost in the Fire. Q. How do you feel playing alive?
Well we all love shoegaze, which basically means we have a great time playing nice music really loud. We like playing outdoor festivals and DIY parties best.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We're staunch believers in home recording, and we take as much time as we want to get our mixes finished. In the age of computer recording there's really not that much need for expensive studio equipment anymore, unless you're trying to recreate very specific sound cliches very faithfully. Because we're not restricted by any studio schedules or budgets we can afford for our recording process to be as chaotic and creative as we like. That said, our next album's well overdue and we're doing our best to finish it soon!


Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Some cool bands to come out of New Zealand in recent years include Orchestra of Spheres, All-Seeing Hand, Little Bark, Disasteradio, Beastwars, Terror of the Deep, Full Fckn Moon, T54 and Delaney Davidson.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We'd love it if My Bloody Valentine and the Cocteau Twins got together with the Jesus and Mary Chain and Medicine and formed a Golden Awesome tribute band.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We have our second album to release - quick smart! We'll be returning to the US and to Australia, and hopefully we'll also make it to Europe and Japan in the next year or ten.
