The Devil May Care with Sweet Jane And Claire - An Interview

***** Interview with Sweet Jane And Claire *****

Q. When did Sweet Jane and Claire starts, tell us about the history...
1) The project was born in january 2012; Well we’re very rehearsed in our simple life too…we live in the same country and we share a lots of things…we have a common passion, so it’s was easy to form a band! Trust me in this country only music allows us to be still alive, otherwise it’s easy fall in depression

Q: Who are your influences?
2)Our influences are very different and colored: BJM, Spacemen 3, JAMC, Pixies,Nick Cave, Sonic Youth,Tom Waits,Matt Elliott,Ennio Morricone,Kim Deal an more.

Hey we’re guys of good taste! This list doesn’t cover all our influences, but gives you an idea.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
3) - Surfer Rosa and Come On Pilgrims (Pixies) - Hot Rats (Frank Zappa) - Bravery Repetiton and noise (BJM) - Kid A (Radiohead) Sound of Confusion (Spcmn 3) The piper at the gate of dawn (Pink Floyd)

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
4) Playing live is so amazing and exciting, we fell electric and proud because we believe we believe in what we do!

Q. How do you describe Sweet Jane and Claire sounds?
5) Like a snake that bites your heart!

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
6) Well there are 2 important processes: before we recorded Sticky Caramel Mind, I wrote down many ideas that were floating in my mind. I then showed the songs to the band and luckily they fell in love with them. Pablo then wrote the lyrics, based on surrealistic tales, hallucinogenic experiences in which he describes colours, psychedelic dreams, strange animals, sweet sensations. The recurrent themes are essentially about sex, death and oblivion!

Now the song-writing process is based on a sharing of ideas, more collaborative in which everyone can offer many colours! The outcome is amazing!

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
7) Sweet Jane And Claire

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
8) We would like to play "Don't play with guns" from The Black Angels" or "Psych Love/Damage from Black Moth Super Rainbows

Q: Any parting words?
10) any parting words? Thank you very much ma good man!

When Sun The Sun Hits with The Noise Tigers - An Interview

***** Interview with The Noise Tigers *****

Q. When did Noise Tigers starts, tell us about the history...
Both of us originally worked on more electronic music projects, but were always big fans of rock 'n' roll. So we got together a couple of years ago and planned to emulate that sound with synthesizers and computers. Over time we also got more and more into shoegaze music, which influenced us a lot on our newest EP.

Q: Who are your influences?
We are big fans of classic video games, so chiptune and 8-bit music influences can be heard in a lot of our songs. Apart from that we’re influenced by the likes of The Smiths, Magazine, The Wake, Pet Shop Boys, Blondie, Pulp, New Order, Jesus and Mary Chain, Cornelius and René Magritte.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
It’s difficult to choose just five albums, but here are five that we love, that influenced and changed us:
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes
The Beatles white album

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
You know when you were a kid and you sat in the back of the car, travelling somewhere on holiday, and you were just hoping for the journey to finally be over? Sitting there leaning your head against the window, watching the raindrops fall down, bored out of your tiny mind? It’s the EXACT opposite of that.

Q. How do you describe Noise Tigers sounds?
We always try to create something special with each song, to write hooks, but be experimental and unusual at the same time. Because of that, our sound is a mix of many influences. Poppy, but rocky at the same time. Melancholic but also optimistic. We’re also fans of big build-ups and big outros, so we try to find a place for those elements as well.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
It’s always different, sometimes we think of a poem or a lyric idea that we want to present in musical form, sometimes we just start with a bassline or whistle a random tune which later becomes part of a composition. At the moment we’re working on a song where we just had an idea for an image: a pack of gigantic, tall creatures that walk through a desolate landscape. So we thought: how would the soundtrack to that image sound? And we just go from there.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
There is a fantastic Swedish band called Star Horse who released some amazing EPs last year. We think they're one of the best bands of 2013. Also our friend Monsterheart from Vienna, who is just about to release her debut album and also featured on our recent EP.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We recently covered 'When You Sleep’ by My Bloody Valentine. We’re actually thinking about releasing an entire EP of covers of songs by some of our musical heroes like Slowdive, David Bowie, Gary Numan and Nick Cave.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We just released our new EP, so we might do some remixes of the songs on there. Maybe we’ll release another little EP really soon. Apart from that we’re working on our next album, which might go in a more electronic, heavily arpeggiated direction. We’d also love to go to Japan.

Q: Any parting words?
Jeff Goldblum is everything.

The Underground with Demure for Sure - An Interview

***** Interview with Demure For Sure *****

Q. When did Demure for Sure start, tell us about the history...
Demure For Sure sorta started in the Summer of 2012. It was just me (Zach) at the time. I was recording the Na Na Na Na EP and a bunch of other tracks in my sister's apartment in Manhattan, but it was all pretty muddled. It was such a blur of flashback genres. There was no band name yet either. I started working on the live set that November. That's when the sound started to come together. The first show was in February of 2013 and Dennis joined the following summer. We knew each other from high school and Dennis had recently moved to New York from Buffalo. His drums really made the set a lot tighter. Just the aesthetic of a drum set on stage goes a long way.

Q: Who are your influences?
We're really in to all the Johnny Jewel productions and the Italians Do It Better label in general. Sonic Youth, Bananarama, My Bloody Valentine, Os Mutantes, Neu! and Kraftwerk. Lot's of stuff. Movies and Movie scores like Blade Runner, Suspiria, Halloween and Tokyo Sonata. Any music that's striking and paints a scene. Music that's accessible, but unique and definitive.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Prince - Purple Rain
Glass Candy - B/E/A/T/B/O/X
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Fleetwood Mac- Rumours
Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin'

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
We love playing live. Hate loading the car, finding a place to park and setting up, but whatever. It was a lot of fun figuring out how to perform it all live, and it took a while to get right, but it's flowing pretty well now. It's always exciting and we always wanna keep playing.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs...
For the new EP, which is just called Demure For Sure for now, it started as a movie score for a short film called Long Distance Calling. It doesn't come out until September. We reshaped the score in to songs and thickened it out with more guitars and recorded vocals over it. It's all DIY.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Been really in to Grimes lately. Also listening to a lot of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. The Sam Flax Age Waves album is great too.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We've been playing covers of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and Grimes' "Oblivion". We used to cover the version of "Marcy's Song" from the movie Martha Marcy May Marlene, but it was kinda slow and the crowd seemed to tune out. We're working on covers of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" and Chromatics' version of "Hands In the Dark."

Q: What´s the plans for the future....
The idea right now is to start recording the next EP in another month or so. It'll probably be a little more colorful and upbeat than the stuff we've recorded so far, and more japanese sounding, or french maybe. Konnichiwa is the working title.

Q: Any parting words?
Nope...except that...and that...and that...etc.

Spiderland with Microtonner - An Interview

Altamente recomendado.
***** Interview with Microtonner *****

When did Microtonner start, tell us about your history...
MICROTONNER was founded in 1997 by Martin Baumann (Guitar) and Paul Proll (Bass). As a long-term cooperation with other musicians failed, we started to use more and more electronic equipment.

After doing 3 records, we decided to go back to our roots, we met Chris (Drums) who joined MICROTONNER immediately, and so we did our fourth release Navigation. We wanted to create a more organic sound, than on our other albums.

What are your influences?
Nearly every kind of music ...Paul likes Dinosaur Jr., Bailter Space, Sonic youth, Melvins, Chris loves bands like Cult of Luna, Callisto, Jakob Martin likes Skywave, Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, Boards of Canada, Autechre, Godflesh.

Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Neurosis - Souls at Zero
Dinosaur Jr. - Dinosaur
Angry Samoans - Back from Samoa
Cult of Luna - Vertical
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi

How do you fell playing alive?
great and a bit confused ...

How do you describe Microtonner's music?
We are trying to draw together memories and feelings from throughout our life and to bring them to a whole. It's more a soundtrack thing everything should fit together!

Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We did all on our own except the Drum recording. First we recorded all Guitars, then we took some studio time, recording Drums and doing the final mixing ... i think nothing special ...

Which new bands do you recommended?
Valina in a great band and friends of us (also a Austrian band, they did a South-america tour last year) ...
Sea of Disorder (Chris's other band). Bulbul

Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I did a cover of the Angry Samoans "you stupid asshole" 2 years ago ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdpIv2tqLls

What´s the plans for future....
We are trying to get some gigs in the near future, produce some new material, stuff like that - Chris and me are playing together in another band (the linear collider), a release is planned in the near future.

Any parting words?
Thanks for listening to our music, renato!

Like Elephants with The Movements - An Interview

***** Interview with The Movements *****

Q. When did The Movements form? tell us your story….
The Movements are a band consisting of 5 persons from different parts of Sweden, but now we all live in Göteborg. Since 2004 we have been touring frequently throughout Europe and probably driving more miles in a van and slept on more floors than most others. Counting these last two records we've released six albums, two EPs and a bunch of singles on various record labels worldwide. The music has been moving back and forth between garagepunk, space rock and psychedelia.

Q: What are your influences?
The biggest influence on these albums are elephants. Recent years there have been found out that elephants have a way to communicate with some kind of telepathy. They can communicate with each other over long distances with some kind of sixth sense which goes beyond our understanding. South African conservationist Lawrence Anthon (known as “The elephant whisperer”) tried to found out more about this so he lived with some elephants for some years. The elephants and Lawrence developed a bond and he became a part of their family. The day he died, two herds of wild South African elephants slowly made their way through the Zululand bush until they reached his house, they walked for 12 hours to get there. They all hung around for about two days before making their way back into the bush. Elephants are known to mourn their dead. We think that music is like that sixth sense, a different way to communicate with each other. Sometimes it works much better than all other forms of communication and tells a lot more about a person playing or a person listening. The albums are about how we can sometimes glimpse that spiritual communication but we seem to have a problem opening up fully to it. To get the whole picture you can say. With these albums we hope the ones listening to the albums will reach some kind of deeper understanding of who we are , if they are interested.

Q. Your 5 albums of all time…
Flower Travellin´ Band - Satori
Acid Mothers Temple and the melting paraiso ufo - La Novia
Bobb Trimble - Harvest of dreams
David Crosby - If I could only remember my name
Witch - Lazy Bones

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Good, mostly

Q. How do you describe The Movements' sounds? ¨
Psychedelic rock

Q: Tell us about the recording process....
The albums are recorded in various sessions from 2010 to 2013. They are recorded in Music-a-matic studio here in Göteborg, produced by Micke Nilson. Studio Music-a-matic where we recorded is a really cool place with loads of classic vintage equipment in store. We also recorded some tracks in our own Parkeringshuset Studio. Everyone in the band makes songs and we have become much particular in choosing the material to work with. This time we worked much harder to do the record(s) that we intended to do according to songwriting, lyrics, and of course the sound of the records. For the first time we feel that we actually made just that so we are very satisfied with the records. As we worked so long time with the recordings we had a lot of time to really find out how to get the sound that we wanted as well. When we started to record the album we had to work very hard to get the sound we wanted and when we finally found it we were so into this progress that we just kept on going and made two albums instead of one. This time the composing of the album were much more carefully planned to get a good flow in the records.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Morgan Delt
Hills
The Entrance Band
Bombino
Doug Tuttle

I don’t know if all of these bands are “new” bands but they are at least not that “old” as they are still active and have done their best records quite recently.

Q: Which band and song would you like to cover?
Last week when we rehearsed for our releaseparty we tried to rehearse a cover of Bo Hansson’s “Time For Great Achievements”, but it didn’t end up that good that we wanted it so we skipped it at the gig.

Q: What are the plans for the future….
Plan now is to tour as much as possible on the albums. We just came back from a tour in Germany and Denmark and last weekend we had a releaseparty here in Göteborg for “Like Elephants 2” . This album will be officially released in Europe now on Friday 7th of March. Later this year both Like Elephants 1 and Like Elephants 2 will be released in Usa as a Double-LP. The double-lp will be released by Sunrise Ocean Bender. In a couple of weeks we will also release a new 7” called “Six feet under / Värmeslag”, the video for it was released some day ago, check it out on our youtubepage.

Q: Any parting words?
We would love to play shows in Brazil!

Inside The Ghost Machine by Anda Volley - An Interview

***** Interview with Anda Volley *****

Q. When did Anda Volley form? tell us your story....
I released my debut album "Inside the Ghost Machine" in January 2014. I started writing songs for the album and perform live in 2013. I've played guitar and written songs secretly on and off since I was 15.

Q: What are your influences?
So many! Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, Kate Bush,Bjork, Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Sinead O'Connor, Portishead, Laurie Anderson, Scott Walker, Grimes, Nine Inch Nails, Yeasayer, Alt-J, The Handsome Family, Lee "Scratch" Perry, ...

Q. Your 5 albums of all time...
I like so much music that it's impossible forme to pick a top 5, and my list would change all the time. For the moment, I would recommend Nina Simone Sings the Blues, Laurie Anderson's Talk Normal, Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Land, Bob Dylan's Highway 61, and Tom Waits' Rain Dogs

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I feel nervous, but I'm also trying to create moments and connect with the audience. I'm acting against my
insecurities to try to be free and unleash what is inside.

Q. How do you describe Anda Volley's sounds?
I say I'm indie rock, surreal and experimental with an electronic bent.

Q: Tell us about the recording process....
I have a some decent microphones and a preamp for recording vocals and guitar. The rest of the sounds, such as keys & drum fills, come from Ableton. I do my own recording, mixing, and mastering in Ableton. I have a lot of fun, and get lost working in the recording and mixing. Sometimes I'm up until 5am doing it. I might add Adobe Audition to the mastering process, as it seems to have better tools for that. I'm happy with the lo-fi, do-it-all-myself vibe, and I learned a lot making the first album.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
My recommendations are various genres from electronic-pop, blues, alternative, folk-punk: Alt-J, Grimes,
Yeasayer, John Wizards, The Handsome Family, Andrew Scandal and the Lightyears, Ruby Rose Fox, Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, Simon Waldram, Kelly Spyglass, Sneaky Mister, Axemunkee, Ryan Lee Crosby, Cristian Agrillo, Dave Wessley, Greg McKillop,
Audrey Harrer

Q: Which band and song would you like to cover?
I have 3 that I put on my list this week:Twin Shadow's "Castles In the Snow," Sister Rosetta Tharpe's
"Down By The Riverside," and Leonard Cohen's "Avalanche"

Q: What are the plans for the future....
I'm in the process of booking a UK tour for November, starting to write and record the next album, and I have several music collaborations in the works.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for the interview!

Cupid Come with Vibragun - An Interview

***** Interview with Vibragun *****

Q. When did Vibragun starts, tell us about the history...
The first songs for Vibragun were written in 2011, after I left the band I was in before. When I came back to Seattle from a tour, I asked my friend James Smith to record drums - and we made the first EP with Amber. That went well, in 6 months we put together a full band and went on tour to SXSW and started working on the album in 2013.

Q: Who are your influences?
My influences are everywhere, I grew up in Asia, Africa and South Pacific so I listen to all kinds of music. My dad had a great collection of blues, classical and rock. Bach to Frank Zappa to Velvet Underground. I was sneaking into shows when I was young, I saw lots of amazing things in Chicago - Tricky, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ramones, David Bowie. Also I went to a lot of warehouse parties with early electronica, and crazy shit like Neurosis and Crash Worship. I like the energy of guitar music most of all.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
This is impossible to choose only 5. This kind of question I can waste all day thinking about because I change my mind constantly.

The Who - Who's Next
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
The Stooges - Raw Power
Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Playing live shows is different, because the feeling changes from different things. The people, the sound hitting the walls, maybe something that happened to me that day. I love rock music because it has a big sound like an orchestra but also connects to people like folk music.

Q. How do you describe Vibragun sounds?
The Vibragun song must try to be honest, first of all. If you sing a song again and again it has to mean something or it won't last, especially a pop song. And the Vibragun sound mixes together opposite ideas. If it can be light and heavy at the same time - those are my favorite songs. It's not very complicated, I like to try different things.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
The recording was done at a house in south Seattle. The drums were in the kitchen, and the vocals in the laundry room. Our producer Evan Foster is very good at working with microphones and mixing our sound. He came to our practices and we figured out early on what the album would sound like. There were a few surprises, like 'Get Away', that don't sound like the original version. It was the best time of my life working on the record but also very difficult because I think too much.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I like The Fauns a lot, they have a great sound. Ever-So-Android are a band from Seattle that you will be hearing about a lot in a year. I love the guitar sounds in Secret Fix. There seems to be a lot of great guitar bands coming out lately, it's really encouraging.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We covered 'I Remember' by Suicide and 'She Turns to Flowers' by The Three O'Clock. I would love to cover songs by And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and it's been my dream to cover 'Torture Day' by Notwist. I tried to convince a band I was playing in to play that song and they kicked me out.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
The plan is to find a way to get this record heard by more people. I have been working on that for 3 months by myself and it's taking up all my time. I am talking to some bookers about a tour to Europe but we need a label to distribute in the EU. We actually have a Japanese label that will release the album in Japan on April 23. There is a US label that wants to press vinyl, but I can't say too much about that right now.

Q: Any parting words?
When you close your eyes, keep looking and find what's there. That's the answer.

Dreams Burn Down with Moonbell - An Interview

***** Interview with Moonbell *****

Q. When did Moonbel starts, tell us about the history...
Moonbell was started in 2010 in San Francisco, by friends who wanted to combine "transient random noise bursts with announcements" with "a storm in heaven", if that makes any sense. We have 2 EPs (figurine and parallel) that were released as a full length album on Loglady Records (vinyl) and Deep Space Recordings (CD) in 2012. Our new LP is called 'afterlives' and it will be released on Hypnogram! (our own label) on April 1, 2014.

Q: Who are your influences?
Broadcast, Nick McCabe (Verve), The Chameleons, Neu!, The Fall, Kevin Shields, Trans Am, Spacemen 3, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Grouper...

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
That's hard...
MBV - Isn't Anything,
Yo La Tengo - Electr-o-Pura,
Stone Roses - S/T,
Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels,
Ride - Smile (EPs)

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
It's the best, it's the reason we do this. Our live performance sounds a bit different than our recordings - faster, more energetic, improvised.

Q. How do you describe Moonbell sounds?
Like a sentimental seance under water. I don't know - we're most interested in how other people experience it, what it reminds them of, etc.. Tell us what you think.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
'afterlives' was recorded and mixed entirely by moonbell, as an experiment to see if we could squeeze more creativity out of the process by taking our time. It has been a great learning experience. Now we write much more collaboratively with all the members contributing... The next recording will focus more on capturing our live energy (minimal overdubs, etc.)

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
the People's Temple, Rites Wild, Total Control

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
A tripped-out version of Felt's "something sends me to sleep".

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Once we release 'afterlives', we have another EP we're going to release in the Summer (from the same 'afterlives' sessions), then hopefully another studio LP. And playing a lot of shows, of course!

Q: Any parting words?
If you dream about playing music or making some other art, do it now and quit wasting time. Creative energy and attitude are so much more important than technical skills and fancy equipment. Kids, make sure you let that sink in.
