Pancake with Lubec - An Interview

The Thrall lançado no final do ano passado pelo Lubec é daqueles disquinhos pegajosos e viciantes.

Com ares noventistas, seja de shoegazer ou o alt rock americano, os caras navegam com propriedade sonora em melodiosas e barulhentas canções sonhadoras grudentas como chiclete.

Não há como não se render ao Lubec, e também quem quer?

ACIMA.

***** Interview with Lubec *****

Q. When did Lubec start, tell us about the history...
Lubec originally began in Richmond, Virginia (The Wilderness Days vinyl compilation collects an EP and other recordings made there) and then relocated to Portland, Oregon a few years ago. Since then, we have been playing a lot in Portland, and also around the Pacific Northwest and Northern California while we recorded and supported our first album, The Thrall. We're excited to be going back into the studio to work on new material at the beginning of January.

Q: Who are your influences?
Sonic Youth, Lilys, Broken Social Scene, Nirvana, a lot of 60's harmony pop like The Association, classical music and some of the friends and bands that we play with.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Nirvana - Bleach
The Swirlies - BlonderTongueAudioBaton
Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Fugazi - Repeater

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Sweaty and slightly drunk.

Q. How do you describe Lubec´s sound?
Intricate music in a loud, DIY house show context.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
Pabst Blue Ribbon beer + Coffee + Burritos + Our producer, Robert Comitz + His pet gerbils = Magic

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
We really like the Portland bands Fine Pets, Eidolons, Landlines, bed., Hornet Leg and Comfort Zone.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
We used to warm up at practice with the commercial jingle for Bagel Bites. Also, we recently covered "This Is It" by Huey Lewis & The News. It was really hard to make that song weird! We also like jamming on 90's r&b and hip hop jams.

Q: Any parting words?
Thank you to Jordan Reidinger at Like Young Records and the friends, bands and listeners that have made 2014 so special for us. We can't wait to make 2015 even better!
