Blue Skied an' Clear with Spirit Lapse - An Interview

***** Interview with Spirit Lapse *****

Q. When did Spirit Lapse start, tell us about the history...
A: Almost 5 years ago, the band was formed out of a communal passion for shoegaze and all things that read obscure. We were a group of friends who love to get lost in the noise, so we started playing together and took turns writing songs. We would lock ourselves away and crank up the amps. Every one has since moved onto their own musical endeavors, and SL now remains under my wing.

Q: Who are your influences?
Life, Death, and dreaming.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time..
Loveless - MBV
Pygmalion - Slowdive
Substrata - Biosphere
Happy Songs For Happy Zombies - Pinkshinyultrablast
Winks and Kisses: Frosted - Airiel

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It is a mystery yet to be solved.

Q. How do you describe Spirit Lapse´s sounds?
Loud...like a capsule of Shoegaze soaring across the sky.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
We recorded the guitars as we simultaneously programmed the drums to each part. Recording vocals was the final process but almost the most difficult because much of the lyrical composition would have to be restructured to fit with the harmonics of the instruments. Some unreleased songs only made it to the tape recorder.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Grimes, Mr Twin Sister, Dpat, BONES, LLLL. I have to highly recommend Earth Pitch, a collaborative music venture hosted by a few of the most talented friends I know, one of whom was a founding member of SL.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
Fleetwood Mac - Only Over You Sade - Cherish the Day

Q: What´s the plan for the future....
That's a question that I often ask of myself. When I release more music, it may or may not remain under the Spirit Lapse name. Another mystery to be solved.

Q: Any parting words?
Sail on and prosper.
