Machine Gun with Highlands - An Interview

***** Interview with Highlands *****

Q. When did Highlands started, tell us about the history...
Our first official show was in November of 2011, but we got going as a band, writing songs about a year prior. This lead to our first record, Singularity which we released in June of 2012. Shortly after, we went out on a few west coast jaunts. We started working on Dark Matter Traveler, our second album almost immediately after our return.

Q: Who are your influences?
As far as influences go we like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine, however our songs don’t always reflect that. We love depth and layers of sound on our records.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Souvlaki, London Calling, Safe as Milk, All things Must Pass, Rain Dogs

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Playing live is strange yet fulfilling. You want to make sure you put your best foot forward when you play, but sometimes other forces work against you that can make it difficult. Being well rehearsed usually ensures a good show for Highlands. Also, good sound helps!

Q. How do you describe Highlands´ sound?
Our sound is best described as a wall of sound guitars, laser beam leads, thick melodic bass, deep rhythm drums, and synths (to lose your mind to).

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
We usually have a demo pretty well worked before we get to the studio. Then we add and take away until everyone is satisfied with the result. Sometimes we come up with spontaneous creations that we all love so much, we add it to the album, like Situations and Daylight Station on Dark Matter Traveler.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended
The Orange Revival (Sweden)
Wax Children (Los Angeles)
Cobalt Cranes (Los Angeles)

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
Blondie – Dreaming,
Harry Nilsson – Me and My Arrow
Echo & the Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar

Q: What´s the plan for the future....
There will be another record in 2015 that we've already started putting pieces together for.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for the interview. Listen loud!
