Entropii with Den-Mate - An Interview

***** Interview with Den-Mate *****

Q. When did Den-Mate start? Tell us about the history...
Den Mate started as a bedroom project. With a cheap guitar, an iPad and my love of electronic music I had no limitation of what music I could make and when I started playing with a live band I got to experience a whole new life of art, which is performing. Performing with a live band and being able to visually express what you're feeling is amazing.

Q: Who are your influences?
Probably unapologetic musicians like PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple or Tori Amos. Not musically, but their fearlessness of self expression would influence anyone.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
The Horrors- Primary Colours
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Fever To Tell
The Cure- disintegration
Bjork-Homogenic
Warpaint-The Fool

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Slightly possessed haha.

Q. How do you describe Den-Mate sounds?
A solitary bubble floating space and in that bubble there's is a sea in which I'm floating in an inner tube eating the best homemade guac

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I usually write best late at night when everything is quiet and will do demo recordings. Everything released so far has been home recordings. I just finished recording in a studio for the first time for the record Loceke and it was such a new experience and it's exciting to interlock home recordings into studio recording with better vocals and drum takes. It's been in the making for over three years now and coming out this year I'm excited.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Nuex- duo electroic pop r&b Keep an eye on them they are up to great things I don't know if it's new but it's new to me, Takako Minekawa is great indie pop project from Japan Karima Walker- she makes beautiful collages with music she's the most innovative and talented musician I've seen on the road this year.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Making Plans For Nigel-XTC. I already covered it but I love that song

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Creating music and staying present in my own creative mindset. It's easy to be distracted and life can steer you into a thousand different directions but I think it's important to set time for your creativity.
