The Day Is Gone with Tall Pines - An Interview

***** Interview with Tall Pines *****

Q. When did Tall Pines start? Tell us about the history...
A. Tall Pines officially started a few years back. I've been friends with Owen for ages and it's something we always talked about. We started writing music together and went to record those songs at Cam's studio Incremental Studios with him on drums which led to him officially joining. We talked about getting a bass player but decided against it, no offence bass players :)

Q: Who are your influences?
A. My Bloody Valentine, Sleater-Kinney, Husker Du, Slowdive, The Breeders, Bluebottle Kiss, Magic Dirt. Lots of different stuff informs our music and I'm only talking for myself. We've never really talked about what we are striving for, it really just happened organically.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
A. Again, only speaking for myself,
Sleater-Kinney- The Woods,
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless,
Husker Du-New Day Rising,
Talking Heads-Remain In Light,
Devo- Q: Are We Not Men A: We Are Devo.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
A. I really love it. Our songs are a lot of fun to play. Especially the loud in your face sections.

Q. How do you describe Tall Pines sounds?
A. We jokingly refer to our music as Grungegaze Sludgepop. It sounds wanky but it kinda fits. Our influences are pretty broad so our songs are a bit of a mish mash of genres.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Owen and/or I will write a song and demo it on GarageBand using the shitty drum machines on there. Then we take it to Cam where he will put down drums (often on the day of recording). We usually play around with the arrangements during the recording process.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Figures, Doozy Daze, Spirit Bunny, Agency, Ohms, Deafcult, Ghost Notes and Marville. Australia has really great stuff!

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
A. I only want to cover Devo. DEVO ALL THE TIME!!

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We are about to put out a video for our single 'The Day Is Gone' this week and there will be a record at some point. We are currently working on finishing that at the moment.

Q: Any parting words?
A: Just keep on keeping on :)
