Desértico with Berlina - An Interview

***** Interview with Berlina *****

Q. When did Berlina start? Tell us about the history...
I started with it all at the end of 2006 in Madrid. I placed a classified ad in a website for musicians and came across Sylvain (bass player) and Sergio (vocals and guitar) very quickly. We have had several drummers and Toni Valverde is our current one. Not a very interesting story, I guess, but except the drummer, we're all the original members and that has positively contributed to the development of our sound.

Q: Who are your influences?
We all have diverse influences but bearing in mind the music we play I'd remark bands such as Slowdive, The Cure, Mogwai, early The Verve... And more recent ones such us Lotus Plaza, Lower Dens, Autolux and A Place to Bury Strangers.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Desintegration (The Cure).
Extra Painful (Yo La Tengo).
Hardcore will never die, but you will (Mogwai)
Mellon Collie and the infinite sadness(Smashing Pumpkins).
Microcastle (Deerhunter).

Q. How do you feel playing live?
More and more confident as well as excited since we've been playing amazing gigs.

Q. How do you describe Berlina sounds?
Atmospheric and ethereal sound, with layering distorted guitars and quite intricate rhythms. We love creating dreamy pop songs as well as more complex instrumentals.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
First, we usually work on demos along with our producer. Then, we record each instrument separately at the studio.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Havalina (Spain), Linda Guilala (Spain), Autolux (USA)

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
We don't make covers.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
More and more gigs and we are already working on new songs.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks!!
