Nothing Ever Happened with Synthetic Trees - An Interview

***** Interview with Synthetic Trees *****

Q. When did Synthetic Trees start? Tell us about the history...
Synthetic trees started officially in september 2012. We were just three kids who wanted to play music together. At the beginning we started just playing covers, then we procedeed to write our own songs a little bit later. At the beginning it was just Claudio and Alessandro, then Francesco joined soon after. Our first single “Original life sculpture”, was recorded in June 2014 and released in August 2015. We recently published a three track Ep, “Nothing ever happened”.

Q: Who are your influences?
Our influences are many, and are often common. We grew up listening to Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Beach House. We later discovered shoegaze, with bands such as MBV, Ride and Slowdive. Great artists such as David Bowie and Archy Marshall never failed to impress us or be a source of inspiration. Hip hop is what we also listen to a lot, but you are not hearing that on our records!!

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
This was a hard question, but we decided that those are the albums that never failed to disappoint us. We will always come back to them because they mean too much.

- David Bowie – Hunky Dory
- Slowdive – Souvlaki
- Arcade Fire – Funeral
- The Smiths – The queen is dead
- Radiohead – Ok Computer

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Playing live is a wonderful experience that we haven't done much. Sometimes we get carried by emotions while playing, and we still need to reach full confidence. The power of music gives us the possibilty to give our best, on and off stage.

Q. How do you describe Synthetic Trees sounds?
A mixture of alternative rock (indie, garage, shoegaze) and a touch of electronic. It just depends on our mood, we don't follow a particular genre.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We recorded our ep and the single in a studio. First we recorded the instrumental, then the vocals. We then spent a considerable amount of time mixing the tracks. When we don't have the possibilty of going to a real studio, we record our tracks in our basement using a PC and microphone.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
We recommed you two great, fresh italian bands : Yellow traffic lights and Rev rev rev

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
The dream cover would be “Dance Yrself Clean” by LCD Soundsystem.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
We are currently looking for a record deal, we would like to travel as much as possible. Also we hope to record new material soon and play many live shows.

Q: Any parting words?
