Worthless with MNNQNS - An Interview

***** Interview with MNNQNS *****

Q. When did MNNQNS start? Tell us about the history...
A. MNNQNS was formed in Rouen, France back in 2013 with the purpose of playing pop songs really loud.

Q: Who are your influences?
A. We bonded over bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain, Sonic Youth, Toy, DIIV, A Place To Bury Strangers and countless other bands and sounds that somehow found their way into our songs.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
A. It's changing all the time for me. Right now I'd say 'Marquee Moon' by Television, 'The Money Store' by Death Grips, 'Damaged' by Black Flag, 'The Slider' by T. Rex and 'Lonerism' by Tame Impala. Of course I can't say that they're the best albums ever but they definitely were game-changers that helped us (me at least) define the way we see the music.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
A. That's kind of intense I guess, I like to see the live performance as a catharsis you know, but I also like our shows to be spontaneous and even a bit dumb. When all these things get balanced that's when the magic happens.

Q. How do you describe MNNQNS sounds?
A. Lately we got labelled as 'Part post-punk, part industrial with a haze of rock stomp and psych'. I couldn't have put it better myself.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
A. We're doing everything by ourselves. Recording, producing, mixing, mastering...we want to keep control over the whole production chain and of course it's much cheaper to do so.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
A. There are so many but just to name a few : Charlie Boyer & The Voyeurs, Eagulls, Cheatahs, Temples, Telegram...

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
A. Definitely Chris Isaak. And it's going to happen quite soon as Rouen-based collective SOZA is putting together a compilation of local bands doing covers of 'Wicked Game'. The thing is due for May/June 2016.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A. We just released the first single off our 'Capital' EP so we're going to drop further tracks from the record over the next months, as well as another music video. We're also booking a short Spring Tour, including shows in France and maybe in the UK, so if anyone wants to book us please get in touch!

Q: Any parting words?
A. My favourite color is gold.
