Shoegaze, synthpunk, pós punk, art noise, tudo que englobar barulho, experimentação e uma forte dose de características lo-fi fazem parte do caldeirão sonoro do trio da Filadélfia, Janelle.
Desde os primeiros acordes do debute homônimo deles, lançado em 2013 até os últimos momentos de Bed of Lies do último EP JNL que saiu ano passado fica mais do que explicito qual é a dos caras.
Desprendimento de rótulos focando apenas em experimentos a serviço dos bons sons, este é o Janelle.

Marcus: Janelle started when Chris and I had two failed bands so we decided to start one with just the two of us.. but then at the same time I was doing a music project with my neighbor (Ryan) called Ashle. Ryan came over once to jam and it worked really well- looped slide guitar, drums and bass playing over it... with Ryan's synth/sample madness. He and I already started singing together in Ashle... so it just sort of feel into place. Then Chris moved down the street. Now this was convenient!
Q: Who are your influences?
Marcus: 90's indie rock, shoegazey, early 80's punk stuff
Chris: Math rock, post-dub instrumental, and proto punk mostly from Chicago, D.C. and Pittsburgh.
Ryan: family friends and drugs
Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Marcus: INFLUENTIAL albums on all time- Sonic Youth- Washing Machine. Failure- Fantastic Planet.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Marcus: Worried that Chris is gonna fuck up and I'm gonna lose my drumsticks. But Calm.
Chris:Worried Marcus is going to fuck up, minding the different rhythms that i need to cut and trigger the loops coming from the slide guitar.
Ryan: so many machines to fix
Q. How do you describe Janelle sounds?
Chris: psychedelic indie punk shoegaze
Marcus: No maps
Ryan: whatever words Chris strings together
Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Marcus: We recorded all the bass and drums for our last tape and upcoming LP at Watercourse Sounds in central Pennsylvania by John McGinley. Our first tape and everything else was recorded at the Termite Haus (my basement) with Ryan's skillz and patience.
Chris: Marcus covered recording, but writing is a long process. We are all neighbors and hang pretty much everynight...band practice and song creation really is a naturally extension of that kind of familiarity and chillage.
Ryan: What they said, it's pretty tedious and laborious for me...but totally enjoyable. Being the only engineer type in the band, I assist with every edit and overdub. We are very specific and critical of every aspect of our songs, which is great, but leads to long sessions. I do everything in Ableton. It's a great DAW that I use to record and also is my main synth in performance.
Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Marcus: Radioactivity
Chris: The Guests Ryan:I could listen to that The Guests album on repeat.
Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Marcus: Ruby Buff
Chris: Bloarzeyd’s version of Madonna’s - Material Girl
Ryan:Otis Redding
Q: What are your plans for the future?
Marcus: A vinyl pressing in June on FDH Records in USA and Rockstar Records in Germany! Making music videos. Playing local shows and venturing out in Vanelle (our van). Writing music.
Chris: Working on new songs for a fourth record, planning a spring tour, and being terrified by American politics..
