Transparent Radiation with The Solar System - An Interview

***** Interview with Solar System *****

Q. When did Solar System start, tell us about the history...
A. Well I didn't come up with the name until 2005 or 2006 but I've been recording since I was a little kid, starting recording on boomboxes and stereos with my friends and with my brother gary just experimenting and discovering how to record. The first "True" Solar System album came together in 2002 and is called "Living Alone". After that album I started to find myself as a musician and songwriter.

Q: Who are your influences?
A. I guess the first band I truly loved was The Beatles and through them and going through my dad's record collection I discovered all the classic rock greats. In my early teens I heard Frank Zappa's music and that opened a new door of musical possibilities for me. If I had to think of ten musicians who have consistently inspired and influenced me in the past 10 or so years they would be.
1. Syd Barrett
2. John Frusciante
3.Olivia Tremor Control
4. Eric's Trip
5. Rick White and all his various bands/projects
6. Brian Eno
7.Devo
8.Love/Arthur Lee
9. Anton Newcombe
10.The Frogs

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
A. I can't possibly make a list of the best 5 albums of all time so instead i'll pick 5 albums that have made an impact on me this year

1.John Frusciante- PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone
2. Plasticstatic- Anchors
3.Eric's Trip-Forever Again
4.Mike Oldfield- Tubular Bells
5. Elevator To Hell- A Taste Of Complete Perspective

Q. How do you feel playing live?
A. At the moment, There hasn't been too many Solar System live shows. This will change soon. In the past the few shows i've done have been solo shows and to me I find this very boring for the audience as the albums are so layered and full of sound. I have just formed a band to play all this music and so far it's going great. The guys in the band are, Daniel Vought- Drums. Brian Arvo- Bass. Our first gig is in February and I can't wait! I've always wanted the live band to be different from the recordings which are very textural and extremely psychedelic. The live band is full of energy and has more of a spacial quality to it. I can't wait to see/hear everyone's response to the live setting.

Q. How do you describe the sound of The Solar System?
A. The sound of the Solar System is to me very psychedelic, textural and multilayered. I'm really inspired by the recording techniques of the late 60's/ early 70's in which the bands/producers were trying to produce a aural movie. I want to take the listener on a journey and have them pick up new sounds with each listen. I feel i'm just getting this together.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the albums?
A. Well when I go to write a song it usually starts with a idea on the guitar or some sort of rhythmic idea, I lay that down and build upon it until the song is complete. Each album is different and I work on them consistently until they are complete. This year alone I wrote and recorded 4 albums. I was on quite a creative high which I hope will continue into 2013.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
A. This year I've befriended so many great musicians from all over the world. Im going to try to remember everyone's name and bands so If I forget some names i'm sorry. first i'd like to mention my good friends Ryan Winn and Keisha Winn, They are Husband and Wife who make otherworldly psych/shoegaze music under the name Plasticstatic. Their EP "Anchors" is my favorite album of this year. Every listen I hear new things and I get inspired greatly from their music.

I don't want to make this too long so I'm just going to name off the rest but before I do I want to say thank you to all of your for your friendship and the amazing music.

Dereck Higgins, Chris Reid of The Sirago 17. Kevin Common of The Common Men. Beaulieu Porch, Sir Psych and The Smoking Trees. Toni Oswald, Magic and Fun, The Diary Of IC Explura. Zachary Biggs. There are so many more who's name I'm forgetting. You know who you are!

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
A. Any of the bands/musician's I mentioned in the Previous question. I'd love and be honored to hear them cover any Solar System songs. I'm sure they'd make them better!!!

Q: What´s the plans for future....
A. Plans for the future are to play tons of shows with the live band, Possibly do some recording with them as well. More music this year and continue to grow as a musician and be a better person. Did I mention release new music??? Maybe collaborate with more of my musician friends also.

Q: Any parting words?
A. I want to say thank you to everyone who ever listened to and have bought a Solar System album. This means everything to me and I can't thank you all enough. I hope you stick around for the next journeys in 2013. I want to thank you for this interview and for your support. Much love to everyone.

Hyperventilation with Dead Horse One - An Interview

Contem com o TBTCI e o TBTCI conta com todos vocês .....and the winners are......

1. The Sorry Shop - Bloody, Fuzzy, Cozy

2. The John Candy - Dreamscape

3. Sobre A Máquina - ST

4. The Concept - Wrong Way

5. This Lonely Crowd - Pervade

6. Medialunas - Intropologia

7. Lê Almeida - Pré Ambulatório

8. Bemônio - Serenata

9. Victim - Sexually Reative Child

10. Looking For Jenny - Monkey Rudiments

Playing With Fire with The Underground Youth - An Interview

Simplesmente essencial.

***** Interview with The Underground Youth *****

Q. When did Underground Youth starts, tell us about the history...
I started writing and recording songs back in 2008.. It was all (and still is) home recording, I just compiled all the songs into albums.. It all developed from there. I never intended to play the music live, but as the interest in the music has grown the whole project has expanded.

Q: Who are your influences?
As I always say my musical influences can appear obvious, but also my love for film and cinema plays a huge part in my music and the influence I work from.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
This changes all the time..

Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde
The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Bravery, Repetition and Noise
Joy Division – Unknown Pleasures
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – The Boatman’s Call
The Blue Angel Lounge – The Blue Angel Lounge

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
Overwhelmed.. I am not a ‘natural’ performer. But I feed off the music.

Q. How do you describe The Underground Youth sounds?
Haunting.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the albums?
I record on my own at home, it’s a very natural process.. I feel no pressure of time or money, I am not bound by anyone else’s opinions. If I want to wake up and record a song in the middle of the night, I can.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
There are so many great new bands, I guess I’ll just mention a few..

The Dead Mantra and Verbal Kint’s Gone, we recently toured with in France..

The Wands, our brothers from Copenhagen.

Any of the bands we share Fuzz Club Records with, or for an intense introduction to the beauty of the European psych scene then just check out any band featured on The Reverb Conspiracy compilation record.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Swans.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
I’ve just finished writing the new album, I’ll start recording it next week.. I guess the release will be in spring, I’ll need to talk to the label.

Q: Any parting words?
Thank you.

Thanks God For Mental Illness with The Ocular Audio Experiment - An Interview

***** Interview with The Ocular Audio Experiment *****

Q. When did Ocular Audio Experiment starts, tell us about the history...
Thinking about it now, I guess there was never really a specific starting point, it just sort of transformed out of the rest of my life and became whatever it is. I had been making music by myself for a long time, for fun, keeping it to myself, and then in 2010 it sort of transitioned into a way in which I could share it with people while keeping it deliberately broad and open enough to still do whatever the fuck I want with it.

Q: Who are your influences?
Geez, there are so many. Basically everything. I'm a theatre artist too, so I've had the pleasure of some really interesting experiences with experimental theater and all sorts of cool collaborators that have been unique in their own ways and taught me different things. I've always been inspired by ordinary people who are fearlessly, unpretentiously themselves. Same goes for people who aren't afraid to take artistic risks. I think not being afraid to sound different from one record to the next is the ballsiest, coolest thing. To commit so fully that you don't even sound like the same band. To pursue fully your own interests. Then there's 2Pac who's just fucking straight up lyrically, honest, fearless, G funk west coast whistler, talking from the gutter. I respect that. And then there's all the stoner doom stuff, High On Fire, Converge. I fucking love all that shit. I love everything.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
There are so many, but for the sake of maybe sharing a few that people don't talk about as much, I'll say:

5: Experimental Audio Research - Mesmerized or Beyond the Pale
4: Mercury Rev - Snowflake Midnight
3: Mr. Airplane Man - C'mon DJ
2: Bardo Pond - Selections Vols 1-4
1: AMP - Perception

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Playing live is fucking fun as hell. We haven't done it too much, but I'll tell you what, there is nothing quite as fun as playing music loud as shit on a nice sound system. It's just fucking awesome.

Q. How do you describe Ocular Audio Experiment sounds?
Shapeshifting. There is no one sound. I don't want to be a band that does one thing for six albums. I hate bands that do that. Pussies. But I'm not interested in gimmicks either, different for the sake of being different. I'm interested in my own overall sonic mosaic that in the end, when I'm dead or when I quit, will be the whole picture and not until then. I'm not interested in an image that I can sell. I am interested though in making shit that I like. Plain and simple. I am every sound that there has ever been and ever will be, and so are you and so is everyone else. Can't we just have the courage to celebrate and explore it?

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the albuns?
It's different from album to album. For part 1 of the last album, The Witch's Whispering Tomes, my friend Mark and I recorded the drums and main guitar part live together for each of the 12 tracks start to finish and then I layered in everything else live around it. Depending on the situation, there's usually darkness, colored lights, drinks, and sometimes drugs...as cliche as that sounds.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
To be honest, I'm pretty disappointed with new bands on the whole. It seems like most of them are too busy wearing sunglasses in the dark or leather jackets or growing the right facial hair or trying to give a Spacemen 3 or 60's vibe or something instead of being themselves and contributing something actually fucking human and interesting to this tradition. It pisses me off. Let me be clear, I have no problem giving credit where it's due, and it's not as black and white as I'm making it sound, but it drives me up the fucking wall that there's all this talk in this scene of it being about the "art" and "experimenting" and "revolution" and that's all just fucking bullshit. It's fucking bullshit. Revolution? Are you kidding me? How so? It's about how you dress, being pretentious, withholding who you really are, how many people like you on Facebook and will buy your shit, and it's about established artists handing out golden tickets to careers for their friends or people they find on Youtube that they can make money off of. Fuck that. Are you kidding me? How is that revolution? Because different people are making the money now? It's a shame that in an age where most anyone with a computer can put together some kind of music and share it with the world and what we get is just the same kind of bullshit over and over and over again. The revolution was supposed to be that you could do it, right from where you are, fuck label support, be yourself, be free, but it's a joke. What's the point in giving the artists the power if they just give it back? It's not about the art. I hate it. The measure of any artist's commitment to their art is measured directly by the risks and sacrifices they are willing to take and make in order to serve that art, not in the compromises they make or the people they try to please in order to sell colored vinyl or something. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'm the shit or something or some living example for people to model themselves after or something. I'm not. I don't want to piss on people's fun, and a lot of people have made things easier for me, but Jesus Christ.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I probably won't ever play a cover in my entire life if I can help it. Mostly because I'm not skilled enough to play other people's music :) but if I had to, I'd probably be interested in like a Mazzy Star song or something. I like her.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Only to deliberately destroy any and all expectations of what people think I am or should be, and to fuck up the program as much as I can for all the phonies and posers. I'm coming for you motherfuckers. You know who you are and you're vintage clothing will not save you.

Q: Any parting words?
Just that you can do anything.

Future Perfect with Machines Learning - An Interview

***** Interview with Machines Learning *****

Q. When did Machines Learning starts, tell us about the history...
The bassplayer Brad and I have been playing in bands together over the better part of the last 6 or years. We were in between drummers and the other band I play guitar in called Immovable Objects (http://immovableobjects1.bandcamp.com/) was gearing up to record the record 'So I'll Know to Believe in Sparrows' so our project was put on hold due to the demanding rehearsal/recording schedule of I/O. The Drummer Mario owned and operated Black Box Rehearsal and Recording Studios where I/O practiced and he was engineering the recording. During the Immovable Objects recording sessions I told Mario I had some songs I'd like to record for posterity and he offered to play drums. Once we got the guitars and drums down, I called Brad and he came in laid down the bass work and machines learning was born.

Q: Who are your influences?
Autolux
Failure
The Life and Times
Mogwai
Sonic Youth

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Autolux - Future Perfect
Failure - Fantastic Planet
Tool - Undertow
Tortoise -TNT
Polar Bear - Why Something Instead of Nothing?

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Playing live is a funny thing for me since this is the first band I've ever sang in and I'm really just getting comfortable with it. As a guitar player, I've always been proud to present the music I've written and jump around and move and have a great time. At first as a singer/guitar player I wasn't performing the songs as much as I was concentrating on singing, playing guitar, switching pedals, etc. Now, it's a much more cathartic experience as I'm more comfortable doing everything and I can really enjoy what's happening. I love looking over and seeing Brad and Mario just ripping it up and hearing the music we've worked on translate to the audience the way it was intended. It's a magical thing.

Q. How do you describe MAchines Learning sounds?
I would describe machines learning as post atmospheric space rock. I think it has an element of shoegaze, but also that 90's alternative feel to it. I think we wear our influences on our sleeves without biting on actual songs. I've heard us compared to failure, autolux and smashing pumpkins, which flatters me of course because I love those bands.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
We had a simple formula for the whole pendragon's lullaby ep. I would come in to the studio with mostly completed songs on guitar that neither Mario or Brad had really heard. I would sit with Mario and we'd record them to a click track and tweak anything that needed to be tweaked. He'd run out into the live room and I'd man the controls and he'd do 3 or 4 drum takes. We'd do the guitars next and then I'd take the tracks home and write lyrics and melodies to the recording and send it to Brad. Brad would come in and do the bass and then I'd do the vocals and then we'd do the whole cycle over again. We had a basic theme of not overthinking things, just making everything simple as there's a certain power that comes from simplicity. The biggest challenge for me was writing lyrics and melodies. I had never done it before and had no idea what I was doing, but I had gone through a particularly difficult time in my life, so I just decided to write based on those things and excercise those demons. It was a completely different outlet for me and I really enjoyed the process....once it was over! HAHAHA.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I highly recommend Mario's band Sleep Lady (http://sleeplady.bandcamp.com) He plays guitar on it. It's a fantastic record.

I don't know how new they are, but the band Death Grips is unbelievable. It's a more hip hop than 'rock' but the beats are crazy and his flow is insane. He reminds me a little of artist from NY called Beans who is also worth checking out. I like how they play with the different rythms of the songs.
There's also a band called 'Palms' that I can't wait to hear. It's basically ISIS with Chino Moreno from the Deftones on vocals. I have a feeling that album's going to be a MONSTER.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I've thought about this one a little lately but haven't come up with anything, when I do, I'll let you know.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We've got a 3 song EP coming out called 'Success Has Many Fathers While Failure is an Orphan'. It should be out in January or February. There's a free download of one of the songs on the record here
https://soundcloud.com/#machineslearning/pentuckett-blues

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks so much Renato for what you do! It's people like you that help keep the spirit of independent music alive, without people like you our music would never reach the people reading this right now!

Several Girls Galore with Hermetic Delight - Track by Track

Track by Track - Hermetic Delight

HOLY SISTER: we wanted to be as powerful and soft as possible. We listened to sexy sounds, like Tamaryn, The Horrors or The Raveonettes and tried to create an anthem.

HEARTBEAT: we recorded heartbeat in one whole track and cut it in 2 parts. Heartbeat I and Hearbeat II could have been called Heart and Beat. These tracks could be a representation of the HD effect (when you put the words Hermetic and Delight together.) You can hear some My Bloody Valentine, Belong in Heartbeat I. Heartbeat II is an spontaneous explosion for vocals and instrumentals. We just played it.

***** Interview with Sonic Jesus *****

Q. When did Sonic Jesus starts, tell us about the history...
Sonic Jesus was born on January 2012, in Doganella di Ninfa (Italy) from a collaboration between Tiziano Veronese , voice, guitar and percussion, -though he originally began as a drummer- and Marco Baldassari self-educated musician, playing organ, guitar and percussion in the group. In few months, Simone Russo, drums, Fabio Perciballi, guitar, joined the group, and after various changes, Lorenzo Mancini, bass, eventually completed the Sonic Jesus.

Q: Who are your influences?
You can find our influences in 60's sound, such as folk singers, cosmic music, the pursuit of the pure sound, but I figure we have been influenced by any kind of art: painting, literature and, most of all, living rough. Albeit, it is very easy to be influenced; the hard part is to keep the right distance.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Nico - Desertshore
Spacemen 3 - Sound of confusion
Popol Vuh - - Das Hohelied Salomos
Suicide – Suicide
The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
We basically try to blend the instruments together, in order to create a single sound. We like feeling kinda suspended in trance-state, when we play. Playing live music is magic, for us.

Q. How do you describe Sonic Jesus sounds?
It is hard to describe. Using a metaphor, we think it is a kaleidoscope of images, like a palette of colours and a paintbrush to give a different color everytime, according to the taste we want to let shine through and trying to give a synthesis of our worlds. We like to think that our music is an eternal loop, creating a mantra that let our imagination wander; our music is our only drug.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the album?
Tiziano usually comes to the studio with a draft of a composition he made. Most of the times it is just a folk-toned track that sounds good as it is; then I let its melody and rhytm inspire me and I start writing down the lyrics which will complete the basic structure of the song. Then we meet in the studio all together to express our opinions, we feel free to add new nuances to the music, playing any instrument: we mainly have vintage instruments, which we use to reach those pure sound that will characterize each part of the song. The result is just as unifying as we could.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
We are not trying to publicize our country, but we have wonderful group, such as Father Murphy and Go!zilla: we are thinking of other important groups abroad Blue Angel Lounge, KVB, Lola Colt and all the those groups from Fuzz Club Records. These are groups we raccomand now and for the future.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Playing a cover song means making that song yours; we have never played one live because we just prefer to play our music, but if we had to immerse into someone else's music, we would choose playing songs as "We will fall" by Stooges or "Abschied" by Nico, but there are so many interesting songs that it could be a very long list!

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Well, after releasing our EP for Fuzz Club Records, we are focusing on the recording of our LP; we really wanna let you listen to our music! In the meanwhile, we are trying to plan a little european tour, waiting for something important to come out. It is vital for us to play live music and make us known. We were born recently as a group, but we need to get out as much as we can and the future is surely by our side.

Q: Any parting words?
We are proud and happy to have reached you, we think this is a window opened to the world we just have to thank you for the trust you are giving us. I hope you will come and see our concert, so that we can say "thank you" in person, Renato.

with love,

Sonic Jesus.
