Exterminators with Black Sugar Transmission - An Interview

***** Interview with Black Sugar Transmission *****

Q. When did BST start, tell us about the history...
It started as a sort of solo project in 2007 after my previous band, pOp*stAr*kiDs, broke up. It has turned into a musical collective with a wide variety of other musicians brought in as contributors to the recordings. It is also a fully-functioning live band (featuring John Clancy on drums and Ava Farber on bass/vocals).

Q: Who are your influences?
The postpunk bands of the late 1970s/early 1980s (from The Cure to Jesus & Mary Chain), hard rock/metal (Motorhead, Jane's Addiction, etc), electronic music (from Basement Jaxx to Squarepusher) and Prince.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
The Cure - Disintegration
Daft Punk - Homework
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
PRML SCRM - Xtrmntr

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I love it, although, being a perfectionist, I am rarely satisfied with any performance.

Q. How do you describe BST´s sounds?
Highly destructive dance rock

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
My approach to the new album Violent Muses was to sit down and write at least one instrumental song idea each day until I had 25 or 30 of them to choose from. Then I picked my favorite 13 or so, put them in an album running order and wrote/recorded lyrics/vocal melodies for them. Finally, I asked guest musicians to play on the tracks. This album features John Clancy (drums), Ava Farber (vocals), Leon Gruenbaum (Samchillian Tip Tip Tip Chee Peeee), Timo Ellis (drums), Adam James (bass) and Jimmy Lopez (exotic percussion)

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Little Dragon, Nikki & the Dove, Dum Dum Girls, The Netherlands

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Glove, Jellyfish, Squeeze, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Bee Gees. You can listen to them here: https://soundcloud.com/bstcovers

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Releasing a series of studio reports about the making of Violent Muses, and ultimately releasing the album itself in early 2015, hopefully with a record release show.

Q: Any parting words?
Support authenticity, boycott mediocrity!
