***** Interview with Double Denim *****

Q. When did Double Denim start? Tell us about the history...
I started recording music in 2012. At the time I was mainly making lofi garage/surf sort of music but I ended up recording some tracks that were more pop focused in 2013 and those tracks became the firstDouble Denim release. After releasing the Double Denim EP on Bandcamp I got attention from some labels and I got a cassette release through Little L records and Out of Breath Records. I then got approached by Art is Hard and released a 7' single with them, but after that I stopped making music for Double Denim for a while as I didn't have the time due to so much university work. Recently I played aDouble Denim set for a friends gig in Bristol, this spurred me on to release some more music so I decided to finish some material I had recorded ages ago and put it out on Bandcamp. I have a gig with Spinning Coin lined up in late June and I also have a load of unfinished songs that I'm looking to release at some point this year.

Q: Who are your influences?
I would have to say my main influences are Beach Fossils and Elvis Depressedly along with others in that field of music. I suppose I'm mainly influenced by simple guitar-pop melodies along with the lofi aesthetic.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
I don't think I have a top 5 to be honest. However at the moment I am really enjoying:

-Elliot Smith - Either/Or
-The Proper Ornaments - Waiting for the summer
-Beach Fossils - Somersault
-Fazerdaze - Morningside
-H. Hawkline - I Romanticize

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I love it. I've been playing live music since I was about 16 and recently I have played a lot of shows with my band Umi. I've only played one set as Double Denim and it involved me and my friend Caio playing guitar to a backing track. For the next gig with Spinning Coin I will have a full band and I am incredibly excited for that.

Q. How do you describe Double Denim sounds?
Dreamy, lofi garbage drenched in reverb and drowning in delay.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I've always recorded on Logic and that's were all Double denim material has been created. I usually have an idea that I've played on guitar then work around that. I'll then add other elements as I go, so I sort of record and write at the same time as that's the way I do it best. Recently I've been recording on my Tascam 414 MKII for other musical projects so maybe there'll be some cassette recordings for DoubleDenim released in the future.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Hmm I haven't been keeping up with new music lately, I've been so busy finishing off my university work that I haven't had the time. I have no recommendations unfortunately.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
I have zero aspiration to cover anyone else's material. It's not interesting to me. I only really want to play music that I have made as I get a great deal of joy out of songwriting. If I have to comply to what someone else has made then what's the point? I'm not saying I'll never do a cover but as it stands I am not fussed.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Well I want to have an EP/mini album released by the end of the year. I would also like to play some more shows as Double Denim depending on how this next gig goes. Other than that I have no clue

Q: Any parting words?
be cool
