Until the Quiet Comes with Cankun - An Interview

***** Interview with Cankun *****

Q. When did Cankun started, tell us about the history...
Cankun started in 2010. At this time I had released a lot of stuff with my past monikers "V", The Pistil Cosmos, and Archers by the Sea. I wanted to go to more rythmic songs. Sent a bunch of tracks to Not Not Fun and we decided to change the name for this new project.

Q: Who are your influences?
Lots of different bands...Hood, Talk Talk, PanAmerican/Labradford, Tortoise, Jim O'Rourke, most of the Kranky bands, most of the Jewelled Antler Collective bands, most of the Loren Chasse records, most of the Chicago Underground records, John Zorn, nature, love, family.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Too hard, but the current one
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Hood - The cycle of days and seasons
Stars of the Lid - Avec Laudenum
Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet comes
Aphex Twin - Richard D James album

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I don't feel really comfortable. That's not something I'm looking for. I like to play live, i've spent some really good moments playing in some incredible places and met great people. But musically speaking I've never managed to do the live set I would like to. It's pretty hard to play alone onstage.

Q. How do you describe Cankun sounds?
Dark matter in a dark hole

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
Most of the songs starts with a beat or a rythm. Then I try to find the best possible melody / construction for the song. That second part is the most difficult/long.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended
Flying Lotus but it's not new

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
I don't really like covers or remixes so...

Q: What´s the plan for the future....
I have no idea yet. I've just started to record some new stuff, but nothing is settled so far. I would like to release something new by the end of the year, but I don't think it would be possible.
