Dark girl por excelência, Jane Woodman, sua música esta envolta a tons cinzentos como deve ser, apocalíptica, densa, claustrofóbica e doentia, Miss Woodman prepara seu album Teenage Red que tende a ser um daqueles sopros de criatividade dentre da normalidade dos ditos goticos de hoje em dia, que na verdade não passam de pastiche, porque a grande e dolorosa verdade é que não se fazem mais Ian Curtis´ , Peter Murphy´s ou Robert Smith´s como antigamente, mas o frescor frio de Jane Woodman com dolorosas músicas como Crashing, Vapour e Poéme Èlectronique demonstram que temos uma nova musa.

Q. When did you starts to involve with music, tell us about the history...My mother taught me some piano at 5. i taught myself guitar at 8. my first band at 14. i was pretty much hooked from day one.

Q: Who are your influences?
PJ harvey, trent reznor, the soft moon, cocteau twins

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
When i'm getting ready for a show, i feel euphoric - when i'm on stage, i feel like i'm under a spell.

Q. How do you describe Jane Woodman´s sounds?
Transcendent.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
I don't really have a formula, and i don't really know where any of this comes from. i just know i have to get it out. sometimes i start with lyrics, guitar, or vocals, and the song evolves from there. there are times when i wish it were more calculated.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I've been listening to a lot of post punk SF bands like Wax Idols, bears!bears!bears!, and i still listen to the Soft Moon and Tamaryn quite often.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
i made a cover of the psychedelic furs' 'sister europe' with zoe keating, but i would really like to do 'in our angelhood' by the cocteau twins.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
I plan on finishing my new album 'teenage red' this week, and i'm actually about half way through the next album...i would like to tour europe this year...

É com imenso orgulho que o TBTCI vem à apresentar os noruegueses do Electric Eye.

Motivos não faltam, a comecar pelo ep Tangerine que recém saiu pelo Fuzz Club, que dispensa maiores comentários, segundo pela parceira entre Fuzz e TBTCI e a premiere do album Pick-up, Lift-off, Space, Time, que desde já é fortissímo candidato a um dos melhores deste grandioso 2013.

Doses altíssimas de psych rock e kraut rock, dão a tona da alucinacão da música do Electric Eye, Tangerine, Morning Light a poderosa 6a.m. são algumas das piracões desta obra.

E vamos a entrevista com Øystein Braut, para que o teor alucinógeno do Electric Eye seja melhor explicado.

Q. When did Electric Eye start? Tell us about the history...

We grew up together in a small town on the west coast of Norway, called Haugesund. We've been playing togheter and making music together for a long time in Bergen, Norway. We started Electric Eye about a year ago.

Q: Who are your influences?
Really a lot of different bands and genres. Blues, Indian classical music, kraut, space etc. Pink Floyd in Pompeii, Bo Diddley, BRMC, Wooden Shjips. The list goes on forever...

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Awesome! Live is where our songs get their true shape. Most of our songs were written to be played live. We always try to incorporate some improvisation in our set to keep it exciting for us too..

Q. How do you describe Electric Eye's sounds?
True Norwegian space-psych-drone-rock!

Q: Tell us about the process of recording your debut album, Pick-up, Lift-off, Space, Time.
We recorded it on our own during the summer and fall of 2012 in our rehearsal space in Bergen, Norway. Our organ-player, Anders, works in a studio, so he mixed it in a small studio called Tinnitus recordings.
Doing it by ourselves gave us time to really experiment with a lot of cool intruments and weird sounds. We're really happy with how it turned out, and can't wait to share it with the world!

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Really liked the latest UFO-Club record. Goat from Sweden are pretty awesome. You spaceheads out there should also check out some pretty cool Norwegian bands: The Low Frequency in Stereo, Serena Maneesh and The Megaphonic Thrift. Loads of great bands over here!

Q: Which bands you love to make a cover version?
Something by JJ. Cale could be cool.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Our album is out April 5th worldwide through Klangkollektivet (Norway) / Fuzz Club Records (Worldwide). After that we're going on tour in Scandinavia and Europe the rest of 2013. Plus we're going to make another album soon..

Q: Any parting words?

Mirror Movies with The Luck of Eden Hall - An Interview

Extremamente desconhecidos, escrevo isso de forma triste, porque o The Luck of Eden Hall deveria ser e estar entre os maiores nomes do underground, isso se o underground hoje em dia fosse como na época do Psychedelic Furs, XTC, ou seja o pos punk onde o rótulo "indie" era verdadeiro e estava ligado diretamente a gravadoras independentes e não há modismos bestas e sem conteúdo.

Com um apelo pop sensacional, uma concepcão grandiosa de criacão, tipo não a toa os caras citam XTC como influência, porque pra quem esta interado com o grande XTC sabe que os caras eram geniais, e meu amigo Gregory Curvey pega essa vertente pop psicodélica e cria suas obras, uma a uma grandiosas e eloquentes, além de um que de Roxy Music, leia-se Brian Eno fortissimo.

Glam Psych Pop?? Pode ser tudo isso e muito mais, depende do seu ponto de vista, o ponto é que o The Luck of Eden Hall vai cair nas gracas de muita gente, e eu aposto que minha amiga Roxy Perrota sera uma destas pessoas que se maravilharão com os caras.

Mais do que merecido, é só escutar a obra prima Alligators Eat Gumdrops do ano passado, simplesmente genial.

E enquanto aguardamos o novo album, vamos de entrevista.

***** Interview with The Luck of Eden Hall *****

Q. When did The Luck of Eden Hall start, tell us about the history...
A: I was asked to move to Chicago (from Kalamazoo) to play drums in my friend Doug Chamberlin’s band Scarlet Architect, which was a three piece all keyboard outfit opening for bands like Snake Finger, Lena Lovich and Human League, and at the time I was truly excited. Unfortunately the band split up upon my arrival, but I started working on songs with Doug, and formed another band playing some of those songs he and I had written together. That band included Wayne Wells, who currently fronts Static X. I left those fellows and put together a traditional three piece, plus cello, with my friend Mark Lofgren, whom I’d always wanted to work with, and The Luck of Eden Hall officially formed in 1989, releasing a full-length album on cassette called Corner Of The Sky. In 1990 we were picked up by Limited Potential records and released the single Hook, Line and Sinker (Limp007. Smashing Pumpkins first single was Limp006). We recorded and created artwork for an album to be called Victoria Moon for Limited Potential that was never released. Those studio tracks were all trashed, though some of the songs have been rerecorded. (Darling Dear made it on to Belladonna Marmalade, Silly Girl on Butterfly Revolutions Vol.2.) A video was filmed for one of the tracks, Man On The Moon, which was used in the New Line Cinema film The Day My Parents Ran Away and after that Limited Potential dropped us, so we started our own label, Walrus Records, releasing three projects (Belladonna Marmalade, Under The Sea, Sunny Girlfriend). Under The Sea made the cover of CMJ, but it was during that time our cellist ran off to play with Smashing Pumpkins and we became a three piece. In 1997 I recorded a solo project that became Par Crone, featuring my newly acquired Arp Synthesizer (circa 1972), and traveled to India. While on my travels I had an enlightening moment, which prompted me to sell a lot of my gear when I returned, and I stopped playing music for a while. It seemed to me at the time that I was swimming against the current and needed to change directions, so I focused on my painting abilities and built up Gregorian Designs, which is my business for murals, detailed stenciling and illustrations. In 2000 Mark and I started to lay down tracks again, and some of those songs (Babymoon, Device) became the foundation for Subterrene, which we released in 2006. That was the first time I had full control of production and I really learned a lot recording Subterrene. In 2008 we recorded When The Clock Starts To Wake Up We Go To Sleep and decided it was time to get the band back together and roll. That was the first album I was really proud of and it’s the one I’ve held as the standard to all of our recent works (Butterfly Revolutions Vol. 1 & 2 in 2011 and Alligators eat Gumdrops in 2012).

Q: Who are your influences?
A: Rolling Stones’ early stuff, XTC, Pink Floyd’s early stuff,Todd Rundgren, Alice Cooper’s early stuff, Bowie, King Crimson’s early stuff, Love, Queen, The Electric Prunes, Roxy Music, but please keep in mind these are merely shavings off my influential block!

Q: Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
A: The White Album by the Beatles, Zen Arcade by Husker Du, Blood Sweat and Tears by Blood Sweat and Tears, The Psychedelic Furs by the Psychedelic Furs, 25 O’clock by The Dukes of Stratosphere. These are just a few that have touched my soul and I really should continue…Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned, Foxtrot & Nursery Crime by Genesis, Quadrophenia by The Who, Roxy and Elsewhere by Frank Zappa, Super Unknown by Soundgarden….

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
A: I have grown to love playing live. Nerves used to get in the way in the early days, but now I really have a great time. The spontaneity of a live performance, especially when we play A Drop In The Ocean or She’s Using All The Colors, is always a gas. I am very fortunate to have such a fantastic band. Carlos Mendoza is one of the best drummers in town and Jim Licka keeps all of us in the proper psych mood!

Q. How do you describe The Luck of Eden Hall sounds?
A: Popped psychedelic rock & rollisms. Always based on a melody to be sure!

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
A: Rabbithole Studio is my home recording outfit. It has allowed me to hide in the basement and throw down ideas (some bad, some very, very bad, and occasionally a real shinning keeper). I also hum ideas into my cell phone. Melodies are very ethereal and just when you think you’ve got it, and couldn’t possibly ever forget it because it’s been looping in your head for an hour or so, shazaam! It’s gone. So, that is where I start. The melody. I may come up with a lyric to fit the hook at the same time, but usually write all of the lyrics after the song’s been finished. When recording demos I’ll lay down a scratch guitar track and some verbal nonsense to follow. Sometimes the verbal nonsense makes it into the final version (Listen to the background voice in She’s Using All The Colors). Many times the first guitar solo is the keeper, though sometimes I’ll learn it and double it. My production ideal is for a song to feel a little raw and not too over thought and drums must make the listener feel like beating on the table!

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
A: The Red Plastic Buddha, Sendelica, Strychnine, I Lost Control, Permanent Clear Light.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version?
A: Fruits de Mer records have given me more opportunity than I ever dreamed to record cover songs. The Luck of Eden Hall rarely ever plays cover songs. The only one I remember is Day After Day by Badfinger, and that was years ago. I generally don’t think about covering songs, only getting songs out of my head and into the studio. So much to do…so little time…

Q: What are the plans for the future....
A: We’ve just released a video for Sassafras Overcoat, which is to be included on our next album. Mark Lofgren edits and produces all our videos and we plan on releasing a few more before the album drops. I kept all the artwork I had created for the unreleased Victoria Moon I mentioned earlier, and we’re going to use it for this Summer’s release. It’s actually inspired some new songs (Madelaine’s 2nd Voyage, Underneath Another Parasol) and being that the art was originally pre-Belladonna Marmalade (this year is the 20th anniversary) it makes this project a little time trip. An historical peek into the future. I’m really excited about the new material!

Q: Any parting words?
A: Remember to do what you love and love what you do, because there is no payoff in the end. And don’t dwell on your mistakes or the next punch may just knock you out! Cheers!

Morningrise with Blacanova - An Interview

Iniciando o mês de abril no TBTCI, uma preciosidade diretamente de Sevilla, Espanha, o cultuadíssimo Blacanova.

Darkgazer seria o mais fácil para chegar sonoridade dos espanhóis, mas seria somente um mix entre Slowdive e The Cure? Acho pouco, pois a eloquência que o Blacanova nos traz desde o debute datado em 2007 com o ep Monja passando por diversos outros eps e singles até o último registro, no caso o segundo album "¿Como ve el mundo un caballo?", aliás um album que passou completamente despercebido da grande maioria, incluindo os iniciados, o que é uma grandiosa pena e perda, mas o TBTCI vem resgatar essa falha cometida, e mais, vem a enaltecer o que o Blacanova tem a nos ofertar, um espectro de sentimentos frenéticos e obtusos, por vezes tenros por outras frios e desoladores, depende do seu estado de espírito, assim a música do Blacanova atinge seu principal objetivo, provocar emocões.

Além do que foi colocado, sugiro a leitura atenta do que os amigos de Sevilla tem a nos dizer, Srs. fiquem com Blacanova.

Q. When did Blacanova starts, tell us about the history...
A: Blacanova starts as a band in 2006. The band is named after Olga Baclanova, the leading actress in Tod Browning’s cult film Freaks, though her surname has been changed slightly for phonetic reasons. Even if we started with a strong influence from classic shoegazing and Dark Wave sounds, we developed our own identity apart from clichés quite soon.

Q: Who are your influences?
A. We love a lot of bands: from Slowdive or to The Sisters of Mercy via The Cure or The Jesus and Mary Chain. So many influences to tell, we have been music listeners and buyers for many years. It’s probably a matter of an inevitable collage of influences, mixed up with our own evolution as musicians and songwriters. Each book, record, film, even every feeling ends up giving shape, in one way or another, in our music. We are 6 in the band, with different influences, but we all share a passion for noise and dark.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
A: We have more than five, but to say some of them:
Have a nice life: “Deathconciousness”.
Flying Saucer Attack: “Further”.
The Cure: “Disintegration”.
Slowdive: “Souvlaki”

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
A. We take everything to put in place Blacanova´s sound when we play live. We really enjoy playing loud and fluctuating between the slow and melodic and outbreaks of intensity. Dynamics is really important in our music. We love to use projections in our concerts: from Coney Island vintage photos to films by Dreyer.

Q. How do you describe Blacanova sounds?
A. We feel close to classic and new shoegaze bands, but we also have a lot of pop, rock and noise influences. Our songs have high and low moments, ambient and clean textures, narrative storytelling and noise overleaping.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the new album?
A. Someone brings a roughly drawn sketch, and the rest of the band participates giving shape to new songs. Sometimes, you never know how the final result is going to be, it’s like to work instinctively. Lyrics are different; all in the new record are written by Armando and Inés.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
A. Well, even when we can’t call it a new band, we have spent the last two weeks passionately listening to the new MBV album.

Q: Which bands you love to make a cover version?
A: The Sisters of Mercy, Twisted Sister, Klaus Nomi, Black Sabbath and Virgin Prunes.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
For now, our immediate plan is to tour, showing our new record. We have also plans of distribution in other countries, to reach more people. A video from one of the songs have just released, belonging to our latest album (“La migala”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81uZnjXO3I0) and we are going to release other ones quite soon.

We are looking forward to take a new single in the next few weeks, with a new song and remixes as B-sides. It’s in our minds to record some new songs through 2013, but we have to decide the format, maybe a new EP is coming next.

To Here Knows When with The Bilinda Butchers - An Interview

Ao contrário do que o nome possa sugerir, claro, eu também fui seco querendo ouvir guitarras e mais guitarras e ao contrário me deparei com uma doce candura, um tenro dreampop digno dos aureos tempos da 4AD e do Cocteau Twins em sua fase pós Victorialand, assim é o The Bilinda Butchers, unanimidade em 11 de 10 shoegazeres ou dreampoppers da nova geracão, e eu dou meu aval, é belíssimo o que o Adam e Michal vem fazendo e com o novo EP The Lovers Suicide mas uma vez os caras nos enganam com os nomes porque o disquinho é um refresco a alma.

O TBTCI até que demorou pra soltar essa entrevista com o TBB, mas Michal tratou de acabar com a tal demora.

***** Interview with The Bilinda Butchers *****

Q. When did TBB starts, tell us about the history...
We started back when we were 15 or 16. Adam and I had a mutual love for My Bloody Valentine so we decided to name ourselves after Bilinda Butcher. We found a likeness to the sound of her voice and the tone that she created over the music which is sort of shy and subdued. Much like our childhoods growing up.

Q: Who are your influences?
We started out having a heavy influence by The Radio Dept. That was the band that we decided we had the biggest mutual love for and the kind of sound we wanted to emulate. I believe our two EP's "regret, love, guilt, dreams" and "goodbyes" showcases that desire.

Now I think our influences have changed drastically. Its hard to pinpoint the change so far because we are still going through a metamorphosis, but we have sort of matured and want to make sort of darker music. Recently I joined as co owner of the indie label Zoom Lens which showcases a lot of electronic music with a western perspective of primarily Japanese culture from the 80's to today.

Since joining I've been influenced by more electronic music with a dark aesthetic. Bands like Uio Loi, CFCF and the compilations of Bob42jh.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Of all time is difficult, would take me a lot of time to be satisfied with my list, but currently my top 5 are:

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
I like the idea. For a band like The Bilinda Butchers I've found it doesn't really work to try go into it without a complicated and thought out plan. The point is that it is well thought out and works for all the instruments to blend together. Before when we played live it was complex and sort of thrown together. I think we really failed translating our recorded sounds to a live environment. But I am excited to try again, whenever that may be.

Q. How do you describe TBB sounds?
Nostalgic headphone music. Really personal music you don't want to listen to with friends but more when you are inside your own head.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the new ep?
Our newest release "THE LOVERS SUICIDE!'" was a lot different musically for us as well as the process of recording it. We had played this song on our live set and when we decided to do the single we wanted to record the high energy rendition rather than the floating kind of ambient version we had of the demo.

We ended up tracking all the instruments live in our studio and blending them together with synthetic sounds like our drum machine and synths. Its a really noisy and weird sounding mix. i really wanted to do a song that was loud and high energy to discern a dividing line between our other recordings.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I don't mean to self promote but check out the artist on Zoom Lens. Aegyokiller, Smoke Room, i-fls. All these bands have a sort of niche sound but hold a beauty and intensity underneath. I joined the label having fallen in love with a lot of these bands.

LLLL is another band from Japan that is incredible. Ambient electronic music that is masterfully produced like bands crafted by Yasutaka Nakata(Capsule, Perfume, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu). Check them out on bandcamp. (http://lllltokyo.bandcamp.com/)

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Well we just did LOVE SO ESTRANGED which is originally a song by Rocketship, but I would love to do a cover of a song from Toro y Moi's "Anything in Return."

Crafting our new sound and working on our first record!

Blow in a Wish with Venera 4 - An Interview

Franceses supersônicos, atropelando as páginas do TBTCI diretamente de Paris, o Venera 4, chega aniquilando tímpanos, shoegazer barulhento sem firulas, guitarras estridentes de deixar Mr. Shields com um sorriso de ponta a ponta.

O último single de dezembro do ano passado, tem a poderosa Sun e a auto sugestiva Can You Feel, onde as guitarras e as damas do Venera 4 dão os cartões de visita.

***** Interview with Venera 4 *****

Q. When did Venera 4 starts, tell us about the history...
That's a long story. To sum up Yann created Venera 4 on his own in 2011, it was a side project of Maria False his main band. He recorded 4 demos. He forgot them for a while… I met Yann in Brittany with his band, Anna and Frederic who played in Maria False as well. I was so scared, it was like something changed in my life the night we met. We started to work concretely our first songs when our paths crossed again in Paris, in Apr. 2012.

Q: Who are your influences?
We all have our favorite influences. We are interested in art that feed our imagination. It's very important for us, with our music, to keep the same feeling we could have in front of a canvas, a picture, a film. We like Color Field Painting, Impressionism, Land Art…From Toulouse Lautrec, Monet, Clyfford Still, to Francis Bacon, Matthew Barney, Clair Morgan and more. Of course we are inspired by many bands and personalities. Noel Gallagher, Kevin Shields, Jim Reid and Robert Levon Been are the most influent persons.

We should do a list of them by year and style, but it might be so long, isn't it ?

Venera 4 is a universe made of different cultures, everyone put a piece to the puzzle, and we are always surprised by the result !

Alive

Q. How do you describe Venera 4 sounds?
Colorful. Everything is very natural. We don't try to create untypical sounds, they come as all we expect. The result is mysterious, between deep and bright sounds. Venera 4 works with the opposites. Sensuality and strength, lights and shadows. You can feel our mind in our sounds.

I would like to talk about lyrics, because nobody cares of lyrics. They come to raise the music and reveal the color of the song. I am a big fan of Stephen Morrissey, Ian Curtis, Henri MIchaux, poetry and literature. I can't pretend to make poetry but for me, words mean something.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs
Yann records a lot of demos, we listen to them together, bring our ideas to involve them. Actually, after this step, it is so fast. Each of us records its own part, to finish with the voices. Spontaneous ! We all know what we have to do and we don't need a lot of time to do it. It's maybe because we record everything at home, it's easier and we are together in our universe, nothing more.

Yann "fait de l'édit" spends a lot of time for the editing, producing and mixing the final songs. He loves that !

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Blind digital citizen, a french band from north. The best gig we've ever seen since a while !

Dead Horse One, from Cranes Records, a little label from western France.

Have a look at Nothing, a new born label with good bands !

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We don't really talk about covers, but if I had to choose, I'd love to make a version of some of The Beatles' songs. Maybe stupid 80s pop song, which could be a great exercise as well.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We release our second EP in march/april, with surprises. We hope to find someone helping us for the distribution of our tracks.

And for the future, create more and more, discover new paths and lots of gigs !

Q. When did dreamweapon starts, tell us about the history...
Dreamweapon members had been sharing friendship and musical experiences for a couple of years. So, around 2009, Edgar and João got together to play some tunes and have some fun. They liked the result so much that eventually an invitation to play with them was extended to drummer Pedro Magano. Out of those sessions as a three-piece, came the first dreamweapon tunes. Then, Edgar and João decided to show those rehearsal recordings to their friend and bass player André Couto. He liked the sound, and on the spot decided to join the three-piece. That's how dreamweapon came to be. The current lineup was congealed on February 2013, with Pico on drums.

Q. What are your influences?
Living and loving. Experience. Consciousness... Music is indistinguishable from life. So that's our main influence.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Connected to the Universal Mind.

Q. How would you describe the dreamweapon sounds?
Dreamweapon sounds like sonic jams trying to be songs. So, we guess that the end result is something that comes out of this paradox. A very dense, yet simple sound.

Q. Tell us about the process of recording the debut EP...
We decided to record these tunes, in order to freeze in time and space what we believe to be dreamweapon's musical genesis, our first tunes, the ones that kept us together, and the ones that led us into to our path. We recorded the bulk of it at our rehearsal space, then proceeded to record, mix and master at Amp Studio, Viana do Castelo, Portugal, alongside the awesome Paulo Miranda.

Q. Which new bands would you recommend?
There's loads of awesome stuff out there, coming out everyday, but we would give a special praise to the inevitable Dead Skeletons, to François Sky, Thee Piatcions, The Lucid Dream, The Underground Youth and the impressive Sonic Jesus.

Q. Which bands would you love to made a cover version?
We think this one would be an endless list.... Probably Spacemen 3 and The Brian Jonestown Massacre are the ones we most enjoy playing for fun.

Q. What are your plans for the future?
Record more. Play more. Dream even more. And that's it!

Q. Any departing words?
Buy music from the bands you love! Support the artists so they can continue to make even better music! Pay attention to what your heart is telling you instead of focusing it all on your mind, and above all, enjoy!

Q. When did Holy Wave starts, tell us about the history...
Holy Wave started in late 2008. We had all been in bands together for a few years at that point, since we were teenagers. We decided to move from El Paso to Austin and make this band our main priority.

Q: Who are your influences?
We all have various influences. I think some of them are pretty obvious in the music. We're constantly falling in love with music so it tends to change.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
At the moment (in no order): Abbey Road-the Beatles, Kaya- Bob Marley and the Wailers, Loveless- My Bloody Valentine, Self Titled- The Doors, Spectrum- Sonic Boom.

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Playing live is an interesting experience. I like being a part of creating the music that is connecting everyone at the show.

Q. How do you describe Holy Wave sounds?
I always have a very difficult time describing our sound. Basically we do all of our favorite things in music our way.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs
The process of recording the songs can be pretty long. We usually demo songs at our home studio as the songs develop. Sometimes those recordings are the best because we captured a moment, and those are released. If not, then we do it again and again... and again.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended??
Hidden Ritual out of Austin TX, they are working on their first record and I'm excited for it.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We've done a David Bowie cover set for the past 3 years for a friend's birthday. He is an amazing songwriter.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Our new record is nearly complete, so that's the first priority. We'll be touring around the States in April-May, about half of the dates with Goat, which we are pretty stoked about.

Love is Lie by Black Lizard - An Interview

Particularmente o TBTCI aguardava ansiosamente a oportunidade de contactar o Black Lizard, porque a história de adoracão iniciou na compilacão Reverb Conspirancy que saiu ano passado pela melhor gravadora da atualidade a Fuzz Club Records, dentre maravilhas contidas no album, uma deles chamou de cara minha atencão, o Black Lizard, e daí mais um EP pela Fuzz também seduziu o TBTCI a ponto de audicões ininterruptas e o inicio do fanatismo comecou, e agora depois de meses passados o TBTCI e  Fuz Club estreitaram o relacionamento e isso facilitou o acesso ao homônimo album que saíra dia 05 de abril próximo, e o album é guitarras, citaras, mellotrons, sintetizadores, causando uma grandiosa obra de psicodelia digna de fazer corar os mestres Anton Newcombe e Peter Kember, e não a toa o album foi masterizado pelo próprio mestre Sonic Boom, daí meus amigos eu simplesmente aconselho, virem-se, comprem o disco, não importa o debute do Black Lizard tem que estar presente em sua casa.

Q. When did Black Lizard starts, tell us about the history...
First recordings were made at the end of 2008 as duo project with the name Black Lizard and the Liquid Plastic Castles, but the current line-up and shortened name came in early 2012.

We have made two EPs which other was published by Fuzz Club Records and our debut full-lenght album will be out soon by Soliti label.

Q: Who are your influences?
The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, the Stooges, Jesus and Mary Chain, Spectrum, Elevators, Velvets and lots of others.

Psych, hypnotic, raw, fuzz, proto-punk, noise, primitive…

Q: Tell us about the process of recording debut album?
Recording was started in fall of 2012. Half of the album was done in Helsinki, and the other half in Berlin with Anton Newcombe. The studio was great, we were able to use a lots of different gear like sitar, mellotron, vintage analog synths and stuff. Our singer Paltsa mixed the album and it is mastered by Sonic Boom at New Atlantis studio.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Our label mates Black Twig are cool. Dead Rabbits and Lucid Dream from UK and The Wands from Denmark.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We have played Stooges, Elevators and Golden Dawn at some gigs.

There's a lot of great songs we would like to play. Classic songs from 50s to 90s.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Play a lot of gigs and do some kind of second release for this year.

We also try to develop our sound and image of music.

Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun with The Solar System - A Track by Track

Novamente nas páginas do TBTCI o The Solar System já virou sócio de carteirinha, primeira a entrevista feita no final do ano passado sobre a compilacão Red Air que foi uma retrospectiva da carreira de Chris Oliver e seus comparsas psicodélicos.

2013 comeca e o Solar System lanca um album absolutamente esquizofrênico, experimental e altamente psicodélico, logicamente que a música do The Solar System não é pra qualquer um, muito pelo contrário, a música é feita por e para iniciados, simplesmente um deleite que Syd Barret aprovaria de imediato.

Duas longas faixas compõem a obra Underwater Aftermath e Fit a Bull, dissonâncias permanentes nas duas músicas dão a temática que conduz a desconstrucão completa da forma musical que usualmente estamos acostumados.

At Least They Laughed é um album para poucos e esses poucos o exaltarão como uma das melhores obras da psicodelia moderna, e ninguém melhor explicar conceitualmente e demais detalhes do que o mentor da obra, Mr. Chris Oliver.

THIS IS A SONIC CONCEPT ALBUM! Two long songs comprised of many short songs which were first recorded digitally then dumped onto my Tascam 464 4-Track and recorded onto a 1982 Memorex cassette tape for further sonic treatments then fed back into the computer.

The new Solar System album came out my want/need to fully express my extreme experimental/psychedelic side of myself. The concept of the album comes from many inspirations mainly from the prog rock/psych rock world. I've always loved and marveled long songs/pieces like "Close To The Edge" by Yes or "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield "Echoes" by Pink Floyd and like the Green Typewriters song suite by The Olivia Tremor Control. So I've always wanted to try to write a very long piece so i went for it. So I came up with a few short songs and thought to myself, How about I put them all together as one long flowing piece. Even though the songs themselves aren't connected to eachother, somehow it worked and flowed together well. So my next thought was to somehow turn it into a sonic concept album as the music itself doesn't tell a story like "S.F. Sorrow" by The Pretty Things or like "Tommy" by The Who. But I thought instead of a concept album consisted of story songs, How about I do a sonic concept in which I recorded all the songs onto a 1982 memorex cassette onto my 4-track to get that tape sound/vibe. And tweak them further and then re-record them into the computer. What I did for the 2nd and last song/piece "Fit A Bull" I decided to randomly bring back bits and pieces from the first song/piece "Underwater Aftermath" but have them come back backwards. So all during Fit A Bull random bits from the previous track comes at you in reverse which to me is sonically feeding into the soundscape story. Maybe even as much as it's been said before, have it been seen more as a soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist!

I will never write/record another album like this but I needed to get this out of my system and show this side of myself. Right now The Solar System is a full band and we are currently recording a EP of older Solar System songs but drastically re-worked with the band. We are also writing new material together. Last practice we started work on our first song together as a group. It's all coming together so well and it's very exciting times for me and the rest of the guys.

Mais Dinamarca, tá foda hein, sem maiores blá, blá, blás, o ponto é que a Fuzz Club Records é detentora do que o TBTCI considera o melhor cast da atualidade, vai vendo, Dead Skeletons, The Wands, Dead Rabbits, The Underground Youth, e senta que lá vem a lista e agora vem Oracle O., duo barulhento, blues chapadão de garagem com tons psicodélicos um duo digamos inusitado tem Dinamarca e tem Chile, ´bvio que a esquizofrenia viria em alto e bom som, e é por ai, o novissímo Cracking the Eyes é exatamente isso, uma lembranca de White Stripes vem a mente, Detroit Cobras também, mas tem um ar meio dark em todo o album que depois de ler a entrevista dá pra entender o motivo, daí o seguinte, pegue pelo seu Cracking The Eyese delicie-se com o Oracle O.

Q. When did Oracle O. start? Tell us about the history of the band...
A: Some years ago, when Kate and I started a proyect about a sound installation

Q: Who are your influences?
A: Well, they range from old stuff such as Pink Floyd to darkwave rock and alternative pop, Section 25, Wire, Julie Cruise, etc

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
A: "Physical Graffiti" (Led Zeppelin), "Suicide" (Suicide), "Five leaves left" (NIck Drake), "Red" (King Crimson), "Thriller" (Michael Jackson), among several others.....a modern masterpiece should be perhaps "Innerspeaker" (Tame Impala).

Q. How do you feel playing live?
A: It feels alright, the dark room, purple lights, you know...It could sometimes be a challenging moment too, specially if there’s bad sound (or just the wrong soundman), but it is mostly a gratifying experience.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording Cracking the Eyes?
A: Well, mostly i’d come with a melody and a skeleton of a structure, and we all would then start to jam and find the groove, so the sounds would develope symbiotically towards words and orchestration. That´s the studio work; at the recording sessions we are all hot and focused but we always change something or add this or play with that, we like freedom.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
A: Forget about it...He he...well there’s a bunch of them. I’m pretty fond of Indian Jewelry, although they’ve been around for a while. They exude the freedom and the confusion i’d rather get closer to. Back home we are close to some local bands too, among them, Ocean View, for example. The synth semi-pop of john Maus captivates me quite much too.

Q: If you should make a cover version of another band, what would it be?
A: Mmm...I guess it could be "Christine" (Siouxsie and the banshees), it really delivers pop noir and madness in one blow. I have always thought about "We Will Fall" (The Stooges) too, it is such a soundtrack of many nights coming home late.

Q: What's your plans for the future....
A: Well, touring "Cracking the Eyes" in europe and do festivals...here in Copenhagen we are preparing new music for the next Lp, and elaborating videos.

Day of The Lords with The Woken Trees - An Interview

Definitivamente  Dinamarca esta nos presenteando cada vez mais com espetaculares sons, veja, Raveonettes não conta ok mas sim bandas que tem se tornado prediletas do TBTCI, caso do The Wands Death Valley Sleepers, Black Light White Light e agora em seu debut NNON o TBTCI se curva ao poderoso e soturno The Woken Trees, seguindo uma linha similar ao Blue Angel Lounge, o Woken Trees faz psicodelismo dark, soturno e dissonante, mantras são proferidos pela banda de forma gélida e densa, ao como uma jam entre Black Angels e Joy Division se é que isso é possível.

O fato é que NNON chega zunindo na mente e deixando tons acinzentados que meus caros, não há como fugir.

Detalhe, o album saiu ontém, e o TBTCI já escancara uma entrevista tipicamente da casa....

Q. When did The Woken Trees start? Tell us about the history of the band...
A: We have all known each other since our early teens, where we used to skate, party and listen to music together. The Woken Trees started when the six of us moved to an abandoned house in the suburbs of Copenhagen. We started writing songs in the cold and gloomy cellar of the house.

Q: Who are your influences?
A: There are so many great bands that have inspired us and to list just a few seems almost ungrateful. But we have to mention; Wovenhand, The Black Angels, Health, Low, Glifted, Warlocks, A Place To Bury Strangers, Joy Division, The Soft Moon, The Seeds, The Open Mind etc. etc. etc. Thanks guys!

A: We attend to accomplish the same stages as a magic/religious ritual. The rhythm, the repetition and hopefully a transcendental experience. It is our aim that the audience is going through the same thing, whether they enjoy it or not.

Q. How would you describe the sound of The Woken Trees?
A: Dark, heavy, aggressive and frequently noisy.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording NNON?
A: Though we recorded the album live, it was surprisingly easy to do. We rented a studio for six days and recorded everything live except the vocals. We had to call upon the gods in order to capture those lyrics.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
A: The Blue Angel Lounge, Get Your Gun, Uncle Acid And the Deadbeats, The Beardy Durfs and The Wands are definitely worth a listen or 5.000.

Q: If you should make a cover version of another band, what would it be?
A: 1000 Mexicans: Diving for Pearls.

Q: What's your plans for the future....
A: Our plan is to tour a lot, write a shitload of new songs and hopefully record them.

Q: Any parting words?
A: Please take care of nature, especially the forest and the ocean. Fear the Tree Spirit and worship the cult of NNON!

Alex and I grew up together in Seabrook, TX. We met back up in Austin in 2002 and The Black Angels eventually started in May 2004 when Stephanie joined the band.

it used to be hypno-drone n roll, but now it's progressed to psychedelic rock n roll

Q: Tell us about the process of recording Indigo Meadow?
We started working on the album in Austin in January 2012 and wrote 30 songs thru June. In August we went to Tornillo, TX to record at Sonic Ranch. We recorded 16 songs, 13 of which ended up on the album. The process was different than Phosphene Dream which was recorded in LA at Sunset Sound. I think the environment and what's happening in our lives makes its way onto the album and influences the way it sounds. We worked with John Congleton on this album and his approach was different than Dave Sardy. Both producers were great to work with. It's like painting with watercolors on one album and using oils on the next.....same task, just different mediums.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?

Q: What´s the plans for future....
once the new album comes out April 2, we'll be touring the world the rest of 2013 into 2014.

I Wanna be Adored with Elephant Stone - An Interview

Uma busca intensa a música perfeita, essa é a máxima dos canadenses do Elephant Stone, no currículo, turnes com gente do naipe de Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Angels entre outros, o que já dá uma credencial enorme ao combo psicodélico que auto denomina-se Hindie Rock, citaras, psicodelia 60´s a´la Byrds, e lógico Stone Roses, é inevitável não fazer a associacão imediata com os grandiosos de Manchester.

Mas o Elephant Stone simplesmente acabou de jogar no mercado um album daqueles que são preciosidades instantâneas tamanho o apelo cantarolável das músicas, muito se deve também a outro queridíssimo e predileto, o Teenage Fanclub, porém o Elephant é mais dancante e mais psicodélico mas não menos melodioso, enfim o ponto é que o homônimo lancado a pouco, bem que poderia cair na graca do mundo inteiro, seria algo extremamente benéfico para toda a nascente psych da atualidade, mas como acho isso pouco provável, vamos por aqui com mais uma exclusiva entrevista no TBTCI.

Pretty started following my departure from the High Dials in 2006... I decided to focus on my sitar training...This all lead to a trip to India with my wife in 2007 and the songs just started to come...

wow... where to begin... I guess the beginning? The Beatles, the Who, bollywood... then all the great sould/rb form 60s, motown, freakbeat, psych, 70s punk/mod (the jam!!!), 80s indie (sonic youth, husker du), 90s (teenage fanclub, stone roses, blur, mbv, pixies)...
