Diretamente e Detroit, Stacey MacLeod, vocais e guitarras e Samantha Linn, bateria formam o insano e doentio Dear Darkness.
Foda.
***** Interview with Dear Darkness *****
Dear Darkness is myself, Stacey MacLeod, on vocals and guitar and Samantha Linn on drums. Samantha and I met while we were still working at Whole Foods Market in 2007. I was cutting fruit, when Samantha came in to say hello. She worked in the bakery department. We learned that we both made music and we formed a band called The Looms and then later, a band called The Heaven & Hell Cotillion. Dear Darkness is just us two and it feels like it's always been that way, even when we were in bands together with other people.
Q: Who are your influences?
I am inspired by the minimalist guitar of Johnny Ramone. Brett Anderson from Suede and Adam Ant inspire me vocally. I wish I could write lyrics like Jarvis Cocker from Pulp, because I love the humor in his words. Todd Trainer from Shellac and Keith Moon from the Who both inspire and influence Samantha as a drummer.
Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Stacey's Choices: (in no particular order)
1. Different Class by Pulp
2. Suede by Suede
3. Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
4. The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
5. The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Q. How do you feel playing live?
When we play live, Samantha and I both give everything we have. We want to excite the crowd and we think about holding their attention. We like to really give a show, because that's what we like to see when we go to shows.
Q. How do you describe Dear Darkness sounds?
I like to think we are a cross between Pulp and The Ramones--a noisy niche of post-punk dissonance, no-wave eccentricity, gutsy glam and nostalgic-pop, with lots of shredding, howling and head-bangable beats.
Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Samantha and I are usually very practiced and ready to record. We record our instruments live, together. Then we overdub the vocals. We brings in different musicians who are friends of ours to contribute, play bass, moog, guitar, keyboards, or to sing. It's pretty fluid.
Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
In Detroit, I especially love Sex Police, Blood Stone, Sros Lords, and Jimmy Ohio.
Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
I would love to cover some Pulp songs because they are my favorite band, but it would be pretty close to impossible for us to do, since we are a duo and Pulp was made of at least five people, at any given moment.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
We are planning to make a video for our new EP: "Get It Here." We also would like to record more songs and put out a third album.
Q: Any parting words?
Please, check out our new EP. It's free to listen and download:
Get It Here" is about the glamour of rock 'n' roll--dancing, daydreaming, making out, acting tough, spilled drinks, musty record stores, dark bars and bright stages, checking somebody out, smoking on the street, the rock 'n' roll scene and the ceremony of rock. The songs are a little bit '60s girl group and a lot bit '70s punk and glam--all about guitar, drums, belting it out--tights and lip gloss, velour, and love.
