Pictures / New Friends with Panda Panda - An Interview

***** Interview with Panda Panda *****

Q. How did Panda Panda start?
Håkon wrote some songs in his bedroom, and after a while began to play them with his roommates Herman and Jonathan, to the discontent of our neighbours… Then Oddbjørn and Ragnhild joined the band. And we lived happily ever after!!

Q: Who are your influences?
These days we listen a lot to Dungen, Radiohead, Kurt Vile and Beach House. Also the new Sufjan Stevens record is amazing!

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
We tried to agree on five albums, but our taste in music is very different. Since we are five people in the band we decided to each of us choose one record;

Ragnhild: Nick Drake – Pink Moon
Jonathan: The Pixies – Doolittle
Herman: Cocorosie – Grey Oceans
Oddbjørn: Bon Iver – Bon Iver
Håkon: Radiohead – In Rainbows

Q. How does it feel to play live?
We LOVE to play live!

Q. How would you describe the Panda Panda sound?
Popsongs in a chaotic universe.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording your songs?
All of our tracks are recorded the five of us together in a basement in Trondheim. We usually spend a lot of time tracking additional guitars, percussion and synthesizers. We think it’s important to take our time exploring different pedal chains, and synth patches in order to get the sound we want. For the song “new friends” we tracked a few guitars through an old radio cabinet belonging to Håkons grandmother. The crazy sounds in the second verse on “Pictures” are played by feedback wiz Eirik Havnes.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Antler(https://www.facebook.com/listentoantler),
Gold Celeste(https://www.facebook.com/goldcelesteband), Girl(https://www.facebook.com/listentogirl),
Lowly(https://www.facebook.com/lowlyband)

Q: Which band would you love to make a cover version of?
It would be cool to make a cover version of Helicopter Quartet by Karlheinz Stockhausen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13D1YY_BvWU

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Make tons of new songs, play a splitgig in Trondheim with our friends from Ludvig Moon and release our first EP.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks!!
