Q. When did The Breaking Yard starts tell us about the history...
-The Breaking Yard started nearly three years ago now as an acoustic project with just myself and Stephen. We added rotating members through the last two years and finally settled on a solid group last winter.
Q: Who are your influences?
-Son Lux, Sigur Ros, Deerhoof, The Soil & the Sun, Bob Dylan, Led Zepplin, Bjork, Valley Maker, Lisa Hannigan, Over the Rhine

Q. How do you fell playing live?
-We love playing live and sharing our music with others. The energy shared between an attentive audience and the music is such an adrenaline rush. It feels good to be singing for social justice, hope, peace and looking out and seeing people moved, sometimes to tears. That feeling of connection with the audience is unparalleled.
Q. How do you describe The Breaking Yard' s sounds?
-The sounds are very cinematic and orchestral in nature. There are a lot of polyrhythms, swells, harmonies, intricate details. Sometimes it can groove to a sort of hip hop beat and sometimes it is all at once encompassing and moving.
Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
-Our last record was made two years ago and was sort of thrown together more than we wish it had been. We kind of tracked it in pieces as we had time. We still think it is a valuable record, but we are looking forward to going back into the studio this winter to try to truly capture our live sound. We are hoping to track in a huge space and are planning to work with producer and engineer Patrick Tetrault. We plan to track most of it live.
Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
-Definitely Son Lux, Sama Dams, Catherine Feeny, The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, Greylag, Samuel Lockridge
Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
-We haven't done too many covers, but have talked about covering Modest Mouse, Son Lux, and have covered Bob Dylan before.
Q: What´s the plans for future....
-We are releasing our new single on 7" vinyl on December 3rd, will be in the studio this winter and hope to release a new record early spring. We plan to then pick up touring again and hit our usual spots in the western half of the US, head back to Ireland and Europe.
Q: Any parting words?
-We want anyone listening to our music/ reading this to know that we do this because we believe we have a message of hope and equality that we need to share. Please share with anyone you feel would benefit, but more importantly if you'd like to support musicians, buy their music. We don't make any money off of this, we continue to travel, share, and work incredibly hard because this is what we have been made to do and we have to remain true to that.
