***** Interview with Nova Blast *****
A. I picked up guitar after not playing for years due to fracturing my fingers multiple times.
Played with friends but couldn't compromise with the noises in my head, so I collaborated with my depression.
Q: Who are your influences?
A. Soundwise? 8bit videogames, blown speakers, digital glitches...
If you mean music then the list would stretch from Shangri-Las to Drum'n' Bass.
I grew up during the 90's and was fortunate with a cool big sister with a tape collection that introduced me to punk, grunge, noise, indie and other good stuff...
Q. Make a list of 5 albubs of all time…
A. Any number is not enough! My 5 in no definite order:
1. My Bloody Valentine - EP's 1988–1991
2. Sonic youth - Sister
3. Bikini Kill - Revolution Grrrl Style Now
4. Dinosaur Jr - You're Living All Over Me
3. Pinkshinyultrablast - Happy Songs For Happy Zombies
5. Reagan Youth - A collection Of Pop Classics
Damn, I think I gave you 6..
Q. How do you feel playing live?
A. I'm usually very uncomfortable in public trying to control my tide of anxiety. Performing live is detaching from trying to act normal and sharing the noise in my mind. I'm grateful to have Viktor Höber keeping the beat as well as my heart rate steady.
Q. How do you describe Nova Blast sounds?
A. Dynamic? I've managed to set off car alarms outside venues so I think I'm getting close to covering most frequencies. I'd rather let others interpret but I've heard it being described as Fuzzgaze which seems close.
Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
A. I've had a strong belief and rules to only record what I have and what I'm capable of, meaning I refuse overdubs or studio trickery. Luckily I met Mattias Persson and John Johansson at "Studio Bengt" that liked my ideas and recorded "För Mig Bakom Ljuset" with me. The latest release "Tablätt" was recorded live using a decade old Mac laptop I got for free (thanx Adel ♡) thru garageband. The raw tracks were mastered by Zacharias Lindhammar at the same location, Plan B ann Kollektivet Studios in Malmö.
Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
A. Mary Anne's Polar Rig, Stella Lugosi, Juste Splint, Junodef and Rome Is Not A Town. They all inspire me in different ways.
Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
A. I'd luv to cover anything by Tami T, I even asked for permission but didn't dare to send my music to Tami for approval cuz I was starstruck.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A. Besides finishing the album we are working on new material and planning to tour worldwide. Some songs are in Swedish but most of them in English. I've always liked to hear songs in different languages that I don't understand, I hear the melodies in a totally new way by doing that, like Sigur Ros, it´s beautiful! I've heard a lot of people telling me about the Swedish melodies are so nice so yeah, I think it will work great abroad!
Q: Any parting words?
A.I'm gonna have some pizza now. You should get some too.
