Spiderland with Microtonner - An Interview

Altamente recomendado.
***** Interview with Microtonner *****

When did Microtonner start, tell us about your history...
MICROTONNER was founded in 1997 by Martin Baumann (Guitar) and Paul Proll (Bass). As a long-term cooperation with other musicians failed, we started to use more and more electronic equipment.

After doing 3 records, we decided to go back to our roots, we met Chris (Drums) who joined MICROTONNER immediately, and so we did our fourth release Navigation. We wanted to create a more organic sound, than on our other albums.

What are your influences?
Nearly every kind of music ...Paul likes Dinosaur Jr., Bailter Space, Sonic youth, Melvins, Chris loves bands like Cult of Luna, Callisto, Jakob Martin likes Skywave, Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, Boards of Canada, Autechre, Godflesh.

Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Neurosis - Souls at Zero
Dinosaur Jr. - Dinosaur
Angry Samoans - Back from Samoa
Cult of Luna - Vertical
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi

How do you fell playing alive?
great and a bit confused ...

How do you describe Microtonner's music?
We are trying to draw together memories and feelings from throughout our life and to bring them to a whole. It's more a soundtrack thing everything should fit together!

Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We did all on our own except the Drum recording. First we recorded all Guitars, then we took some studio time, recording Drums and doing the final mixing ... i think nothing special ...

Which new bands do you recommended?
Valina in a great band and friends of us (also a Austrian band, they did a South-america tour last year) ...
Sea of Disorder (Chris's other band). Bulbul

Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I did a cover of the Angry Samoans "you stupid asshole" 2 years ago ...

What´s the plans for future....
We are trying to get some gigs in the near future, produce some new material, stuff like that - Chris and me are playing together in another band (the linear collider), a release is planned in the near future.

Any parting words?
Thanks for listening to our music, renato!
