Neon Lights with Waldo & Marsha - An Interview

***** Interview with Waldo & Marsha
Q. When did Waldo &Waldo & Marsha  started, tell us about the history, and what´s the reason behind the name...
We started out six years ago back in school. The name is from the song ‘The Gift’ from the band The Velvet Underground, which is about a young man (Waldo) and his girlfriend (Marsha). It’s a rather tragic story and someone ends up being killed by the other. Check it out yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI-YiaWDgB4

Q: Who are your influences?
We are inspired by so many bands that we couldn’t fit them all together in our heads, but right now we like the following tracks:

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Olive – ’You’re not Alone’
Kraftwerk – ’Neon Lights’
Ramona Lisa – ’Dominic’
Fleetwood Mac – ’Dreams’
Karl William – ’Placebo’
Cocktail – ’Uma Ma’
Laid Back – ’Fly Away’
Rugsted & Kreutzfeld – ’Jeg ved det godt’
The Prodigy – ’Out of Space’
Ronan Keating – ’Life is a Rollercoaster’

Q. How do you fell playing live?
We just played three concerts in Denmark and one in Berlin and are gearing up for a couple of shows supporting one of Denmarks best bands Vinnie Who on their spring tour. We always have a lot of fun and do our stuff. Nothing else to say really. Most of the time people like our concerts as well.

Q. How do you describe Waldo & Marsha´s sounds?
Hmm, a tricky question. I guess we are somewhere in between retro and future trying to create our own thing and trying to sound like the present. We use guitars and acoustic instruments and drums as well as drum machines and synthesizers - vocals with and without autotune and so forth. A giant blend of the sound of the things and gadgets we like.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We record, produce, mix and master everything ourselves in our own studio called Sad Hawaii in Copenhagen, Denmark. It’s really collaborative. Everyone in the band helps out with the music, so we just spend a lot of time together having a good one, and then suddenly there’s an EP or album ready.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Check out the Danish band Vinnie Who. They will be releasing their newest album ‘Harmony’ on the 30th of March, and it’s gonna get huge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yTyp9A0Mkg Also, Mathias and Victor of the band has made a new group called Larger Than Life: https://soundcloud.com/largerthanlife123/over

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
For the coming spring shows we will be performing the Ronan Keating song ‘Life Is A Rollercoaster’ as a cover song. We just love the song so much that we couldn’t resist playing it. We hope our fans share our taste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5a1xk61wfg&spfreload=10

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Our plans for the future are not quite clear, but it’s has got something to do with world domination and whatevs. Besides that we will be releasing a new EP or album in the autumn i think. We already have all the songs ready and will be working hard during the summer.

Q: Any parting words?
Love your parents and yourself! W&M
