Born Too Late with Lunch Ladies - An Interview

Ainda bem.

***** Interview with Lunch Ladies *****

Q. When did Lunch Ladies start? Tell us about the history...
So I'm Matt Ramiz. I play guitar and switch off lead and rhythm with matt whitley. Cynthia plays bass. And then peter Gargano is the drummer. We all sing except for peter. The band started before I was in it in the summer of 2015. With another summer and guitarist. Eventually I replaced the first guitarist and then recently our old drummer Brian Deseno left to play with teenage Halloween and we got peter on board and he's been a perfect fit.

Q: Who are your influences?
My influences span all over the place. I love shoegaze stuff like My bloody valentine. A place to bury strangers. Etc. I also love dinosaur Jr. Sonic Youth, the great depression, teenage daydreams, and smashing pumpkins. I know cynthia loves the pastels and screaming females and matt whitley and Peter listen to alot of the same stuff as me and more. Pete loves death grips and hella. And whitley likes sun club, and alot of garage rock bands.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
My 5 top albums are:
1.blue eyes ep - franky flowers
2. Atelophobia - slow hollows
3.false hope syndrome - teenage daydreams
4.transfixation - a place to bury strangers
and 5. Microcastle - deer hunter

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Playing live I feel anxious but just happy to be playing. I love playing with my best friends and seeing people dance and listen to stuff my friends and I create. Sometimes I like to just dick around live and make noise too lol. You can ask the other band members how they feel aswell. They're the best people

Q. How do you describe Lunch Ladies sounds?
I describe lunch ladies sounds as noises and melodoc. And sometimes very ethereal and washy. Almost like warm. Kinda pop like. And kinda dreamy shoegaze ish

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs
The process of recording songs for the demos I wasn't much involved but we've been working on our album and it's been very straight forward and easy going. It has the songs we play live and it's just something I'm proud to have been a part of and make.

Some songs we made up entirely at practice. Others me cynthia or whitley will bring something to practice with lyrics and the main chords or lead and have everyone build around and be a part of which I think is great.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Some new bands I'd recommend are sun club, franky flowers, surf curse, slow hollows, froth and casinos.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
I would love to cover some noise stuff from a place to bury strangers or cover something very calming like deerhunter. I love both sides of the spectrum of noise and chaos and then jangle calm pop haha.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to just keep playing. I'm still in high school so I'm still figuring what I'm gonna do with my life. But I love music and do truly want to dedicate my life and time to this band. It's so much fun and I spend time with my best friends making stuff I'm proud of enjoy doing.

Q: Any parting words?
And for parting words I'd like to say thank you very much for asking us to do this interview. It means alot and I love talking about this stuff. Hopefully people like this. I love everyone.
