Free Noise with Spring Decade - An Interview

***** Interview with Spring Decade *****

Q. When did Spring Decade started, tell us about the history...
It all started back in 2011 but Paolo and I were long time friends. We decided to play together and well, magic happened. We started writing and then we recorded out first ep Images which we decided to “release” for free on our social pages. We started playing live and writing new songs. Until now we released two eps of songs, two eps of experimental improvisational music and one tribute to The Fugs.

Q: Who are your influences?
Well, it's kinda hard and boring to list all our influences, surely we are big Sonic Youth fans and we worship The Velvet Underground. We are also fan of electronic and industrial stuff, bands like Throbbing Gristle and Einsturzende Nuebauten are really a huge inspiration for our sound. But we like also a lot of different stuff, from shoegaze - My Bloody Valentine, Lilys, etc. - to hip hop. We are both big De La Soul fan.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Well, that's a very difficult question. Ok, let's try:
1. The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground & Nico
2. Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited
3. De La Soul – 3 Feet High & Risin'
4. Ramones – Ramones
5. Neu! - Neu!

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Well, it's exciting... most of the times. It depends of the venue and the audience and how do you feel but most of the times we really like to play live. Noise rock music is at its peek when played live and loud, very loud.

Q. How do you describe Spring Decade sounds?
Noisy. Very noisy. And psychedelic. That's the short way to describe us. And schizophrenic. At least that's how I will describe our sound.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Most of the times it starts with me playing guitar. When I find some chords or a riff which I think it's worth of workin on it, I send everything to Paolo and we start working together. Sometimes it's just a riff and so the work it's more collaborative, sometimes what I provide is more complete so it's just a matter of details. We record everything in a garage at Paolo's house. It's very diy and lo-fi. Very very very lo-fi.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I'm a lot into Courtney Barnett, she's sooo talented, I mean no one writes lyrics like her, she's a poet! And Hop Along. I just listened to two of their songs and I was blown away

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Mmm I don't know, actually some time ago there was the idea of a covers ep and in the tracklist there was definitely Human Fly by The Cramps and... I forgot all the rest. So let's stick to The Cramps. They're perfect, easy to play, sexy, crazy. They've got everything we like in music.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
The conquer of the world?
Record new music? Nothing at all? Actually we are working on a new ep, it will be a lot different from our previous stuff, more dark and industrial.

Q: Any parting words?
Like “May the force be with you”? “May the force be with you” and don't forget to visit our social pages, we are very kind and nice people so come along and say hello.
