***** Interview with Weird *****
Q. When did Weird starts, tell us about the history...
Weird. starts around autumn 2011 with me writing new music after the split of my previous band. In that period I discovered shoegaze et similia and fell in love with it so the songs developed with certain sounds in my head (very reverbered). The line up was soon completed with Matteo D'Argenio on bass (replaced by Giovanni Romano in may 2013) and Massimiliano Pecci (a long time friend of mine) on drums. We bought a cheap drumset and began to play, writing and experiment in my practice space until we recorded our first record "Desert Love for Lonely Graves" in the summer of 2012, then released it on january 2013.
Q: Who are your influences?
Just some names in random order:
Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Have A Nice Life, Slowdive, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Swans, The Black Angels, True Widow, Verdena, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips..
Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Impossible question, but these are five of the most important albums for me (as a musician and as human being)
Have A Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Cure - Pornography
Slowdive - Souvlaki
A Place to Bury Strangers - Exploding head
Q. How do you fell playing live?
Feeling "complete" and feeling "I'm-not-really-here", at the same time, maybe. Hard to explain.
Q. How do you describe Weird´s sounds?
I think it's very hard to describe sounds in general, even harder if I speak of our own sounds. Every listener will have a different idea of a sound, the same thing happens with lyrics. That's the best part of the game.
Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I usually write music and lyrics by myself, I start from a riff, a simple chords progression or even a particular sound and then I try different melodies singing random words. Rarely I start from lyrics, but sometimes it happens.
Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Some names from the world: Wreck and Reference, Torres, Tristen..
And some italian bands: Soviet Soviet, Be Forest, Electric Superfuzz, Inesatto, Sadside Project, Lantern, Havah..
Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Have A Nice Life, without a doubt. It will happen.
Q: What´s the plans for future....
Playing live the more as possible, in Italy and (hopefully soon) outside Italy. Of course the new album will be out in the first months of 2015.
Q: Any parting words?
