***** Interview with The Cherry Wave *****
Q. When did Cherry Wave starts, tell us about the history...
The band started earlier this year (2012) with me, Paul (guitar/vocals) and Adam (Drums) jamming some ideas and putting together some songs I had written, then when we needed a bassist I asked Billy as I had been involved in previous projects with him and knew he would be into doing it. We then recorded the debut EP by ourselves as a 3 piece in a rehearsal room. Not long after the EP came out we decided we wanted to incorporate another guitarist into the band and Billy and I contacted David, who we had both worked with before, he came on board and that's been our line-up ever since.
Q: Who are your influences?
The band has a pretty wide influence range and we've all came from different musical backgrounds but some of the influences for this particular band are My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus And Mary Chain, Astrobrite, Flying Saucer Attack, Pinkshinyultrablast, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Ringo Deathstarr, No Joy, Medicine, Spacemen 3 etc etc. Basically loud, noisy, fuzzy sounding bands. We love fuzz.
Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes
Slint - Spiderland
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Astrobrite - Pinkshinyultrablast
Shudder To Think - Pony Express Record
Q. How do you feel playing live?
I think we all really enjoy playing live and as a band we have tried to play as much as we can. Being in bands can sometimes be hard work if everyone isn't really determined to play as much as possible, but thankfully everyone involved in The Cherry Wave wants to play live as much as we can and put out as much music as we can. We're a pretty hard working band in comparison to previous bands I've been in and we're constantly writing and coming up with ideas.
Q. How do you describe Cherry Wave sounds?
Like a giant moth made of fuzz trying to make it's way around a huge reverberating cave in space while someone mumbles something in the distance, then put that sound through a lot of effects pedals.
Q: Tell us about the process of recording the ep?
The debut EP was recorded by ourselves very cheaply but the new EP we're about to release was recorded at The Bottling Plant Studios over a couple of days. We got to use a lot of gear we could never afford and we all really enjoyed the whole process. We'll likely record there again in the future.
Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
There's a lot of bands we love but some of them are, Ursula Minor, Vcheka, Battery Face, The Yawns, Fat Janitor, Shallow, The Garden of Elks, Honeyslide, Young Philadelphia, 13 Monsters, Jesus Deluxe, No Island, Cosmic Dead.
Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
It's possible we may do a Fugazi cover at some point. They're different enough from us that it may sound interesting. Plus, Fugazi are amazing!!
Q: What´s the plans for future....
We have a new EP about to come out (January 2013) that we're putting out in collaboration with Wolf Amongst Wolves Records. Then we'll have a split EP out after that with our friends from Arizona, Shallow. We'd really, really love to put out an album next year at some point, aside from that we just want to play as many shows as we possibly can.
Q: Any parting words?
Thanks so much for the interview man! Really appreciate you asking.
Gazing at shoes to make music to gaze at shoes to. FUZZ!!!!
