Ghost Dance with Be Forest - An Interview

***** Interview with Be Forest *****

Q When did Be Forest starts, tell us about the history...
The project "be forest" was born in 2010 by Nicola Lampredi guitar and drums, Costanza Delle Rose bass and voice, Erica Terenzi drums and guitar. With "earthbeat" Lorenzo Badioli, synth, comes to play with us for a few gigs.

Q: Who are your influences?
We are oriented towards different things, and different influences i think that is an important factor for our creations. anything can be inspiring: a song, a movie, a painting or simply an event in our life that needs to be told. For earthbeat We were inspired by Americans Natives, their approach to life and nature. the American Natives music was composed primarily of percussion that recreating "the heartbeat of the earth" and that the reason why we entitled of the album "Earthbeat." The lyrics as a music for the American Natives work as a healing, how to care about what you live, is an antidote, a magic formula where you can mirror, recognize and accept yourself.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
1.Slowdive- Soulvaki
2.Blonde redhead- 23
3.Smashing pumpkins- mellon collie and the infinite sadness
4. Ride-Nowhere
5. The smiths- Strangeways, here we come

Q. How do you describe Be Forest sounds?
The name Be Forest was born in an attempt to capture our common imagery, magic places where things are hiding under the fog, where dreams and reality live together. While "Cold" was a silent and mysterious world, "Earthbeat" is based on a different kind of landscape, warmer and concrete. The rhythm is the base of this album, it's more segmented, visceral. We felt the need to include a fourth element in order to recreate certain atmospheres, with the new use of synth and others digital sounds. It's a growth, a natural evolution of our sound and of ourselves

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
With Earthbeat is the first time that we have worked with digital sounds. Obviously, we'd prefer to have those same sounds played by real instruments but that would be extremely complicated. We needed a new musical element able to add depth and completeness to our songs and with Lorenzo (new member - keyboard player) we found the right balance. the lyrics are written after the song creation, , I've write every lyrics in a particular moment of my life, a time of change and growth. I think that are a greetings to adolescence and a step towards maturity, with the all the fears and the mistakes that this entails.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Tennis System a young band from Los Angeles

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We don't love make a cover of other bands but i think that our favorite cover song could be "I quit Girls" of Japandroids

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Playing around in the world, and start thinking about a new album

Q: Any parting words?
Thank you for this intervew. it was a pleasure. all the best. Be Forest.

Pink Frost with DulceSky - An Interview

***** Interview with DulceSky *****

Q. When did DulceSky start, tell us about the history...
The name DulceSky has been floating with me since the mid 90s and I tried to insert it to different projects that never went anywhere. Finally in 2002 after another failed line up, I told my brother Daniel who played a little guitar, if you want, you can join the band, but you are going to have to play bass. He said yes and, and he and I have been the main engine of DulceSky since, with a few members coming and going. In 2003 we released our first EP, “Film” on Eden's Watchtower Records. Our debut album “Lands” didn't happen until 2006 which has been our most successful release to date. Later we covered a song by Ride, “Unfamiliar” which we turned it into an EP with 3 more songs. Then came “Invisible Empire”, our second album which had great reviews, but we didn't promote it much. We've released a couple of singles since and our latest effort is the “Awake and Arise” EP.

Q: Who are your influences?
Many. The other day I was making a mental list of bands that are always present as a reference and influence: The Cure, The Church, Catherine Wheel, Depeche Mode, JAMC, The House of Love, Talk Talk, Pale Saints, Failure and Soda Stereo.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Hard to narrow it down to only 5, and it can change tomorrow, but today I could say: “Bloodflowers” by The Cure, “Violator” by Depeche Mode, “Chrome” by Catherine Wheel, “The Spirit of Eden” By Talk Talk, “Dynamo” by Soda Stereo.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
We love playing live. We make a big deal out of it, trying to put the best show possible with the resources available. We haven't played live as much as we would like to lately, but we want to remedy that.

Q. How do you describe DulceSky's sound?
Another hard one. I think we have a signature sound, that we are trying to solidify even more. One of the last pieces written about our music said we were a “Dream Rock” band. I liked that description. We are basically are a rock band, but with dreamy, floaty atmospheres.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
It varies, but we usually go with a very clear idea into the studio, with some room for experimentation and refinement of the songs once we get there. We've been doing some home recordings lately. “Awake and Arise” and “Don't Ever Fade” were recorded in my home studio.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
We've shared the stage with Vibragun from Seattle a couple of times, and they are somewhat new and have great shoegaze music.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version?
Many, I would like to one day to record an album of covers of our favorite songs. I'm thinking The House of Love, Depeche Mode and Soda Stereo to start.

Q: What are the plans for the future....
We are writing an album right now and we have a concept for it that we are still expanding. We would like to have more film to our music, and then once the album is out, play everywhere we can to promote it.

Q: Any parting words?
I can say many things, but it's all about the music at the end of the day. Visit our Sound Cloud page (www.soundcloud.com/dulcesky) and check out our videos on YouTube (just do a search for DulceSky). Our most dynamic way of communicating with people these days is via our facebook page (www.facebook.com/dulcesky). Thanks for the interview and the opportunity and much success to you and your blog! Inner Sanctum with The Cosmic Dead - An Interview

***** Interview with The Cosmic Dead *****

Q. When did Cosmic Dead start? Tell us about the history.
Hello 'Blog that Celebrates Itself', this is Omar from Cosmic Dead.. for me The Cosmic Dead started when I walked into a bar next door to my house. This was the Halt bar, a wee stop off on Woodlands road in Glasgow, with a horseshoe shaped bar in one room and a cosy wee venue in the other. As I walked into the venue space I was immediately absorbed into a smog of drone and repetition which still shrouds my perception to this day. The absorbtion became so strong that I too became enveloped into the inner workings of the Dead, and here I am now, still ensnared.

Q: Who are your influences?
My personal influences are artists like Omar Khorshid & Robbie Basho, musicians who honed their craft and then used their skills to play a type of music that is a wholly unique blend of their musicianship and their origins. Music that isn't tailored to the vacuous circus of mainstream musical structure.

Q. Give us a list of albums you like.
In no particular order:
Steve Hillage - Fish Rising
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Elliot Smith - Figure 8
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Coven - Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls
Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond
The Doors - LA Woman
Robbie Basho - Visions of the Country
Earth - Hex
Neu! - Neu!
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Rush - 2112
Sensational Alex Harvey Band - The Impossible Dream
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen
Groundhogs - Crosscut Saw
King Crimson - Discipline

Q. How do you feel about playing live?
Playing live is an altogether uplifting experience where I simultaneously lose myself and discover myself whilst connecting with my bandmates and the audience in an indescribable though often fuzzy musical conversation.

Q. How do you describe Cosmic Dead´s sound?
Four guys, four instruments, ideas, repetition, improvisation, chaos, harmony.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
I think the environment plays a big part in our recording process, we've tried to record in as many settings as possible other than bonafide recording studio. We've been from the toilets of the Glasgow School of Art to the Highlands of Scotland and most recently the warmer climbs of northern Sardinia. I think environment really steers the way we play as a unit and our surroundings often find their way into the timbre of the recordings themselves.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Pigs x 7, Blown Out, Kabobo, Girl Sweat, The Beatles

New Age of Earth with Tönen - An Interview

***** Interview with Tönen *****

Q. When did Tonen starts, tell us about the history...
Tönen originally started as an electronic-themed side-project of the more rock, or guitar,-leaning Lunar Grave. The music we were listening to at the time really started to shift toward the more electronic-oriented side of "Krautrock". There's quite a bit of a CAN influence in much of the Lunar Grave material, but with Tönen we could finally pursue the synthesized sounds of the more-experimental kraut acts. Much like many of the Kraut bands, all of our material comes from 'jamming', a term I thoroughly dislike due to its connotation with bands such as Phish. A majority of our recordings, from both Lunar Grave and Tönen, were improvised live straight to a tape recorder.

Q: Who are your influences?
As mentioned before, we were majorly obsessed with german bands from the 60's-80's such as Cluster, Kraftwerk, Harmonia, NEU!, CAN, Ashra, Faust, Cosmic Jokers, etc. We are all also big fans of avant-garde composers of the mid-20th century, like Terry Riley, LaMonte Young, Steve Reich, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Takehisa Kosugi.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Pärson Sound - S/T
Harmonia - Musik Von Harmonia
CAN - Tago Mago
Psychic Ills - Dins
Ashra - New Age of Earth

but this is falling far short, as I'm skipping over many great records by the likes of Neil Young, International Harvester/Träd Gräs och Stenar, Spacemen 3, Les Rallizes Dénudés, NEU!, Kraftwerk, Popol Vuh, Hawkwind, the Velvet Underground, the 13th Floor Elevators, Faust, Earth, ETC...

Q. How do you fell playing live?
Playing live is always a double-edged sword, sometimes it's great, and other times it just sounds off. I'm not sure if it's always just due to our playing (we have had our bad-days, definitely), but maybe the space just has the wrong acoustics for our sound (or just bad acoustics in general, specifically regarding bars in Portland, at least). We generally prefer to play live in private.

Q. How do you describe Tönen´s sounds?
Tönen is tonal sprawl. Indefinite drones set to an endless drum-machine. Depending upon the album it could prove suitable meditation or driving music.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Most of the material was improvised, and recorded live to any number of recording devices (including a Nagra III, Tascam 4-track & 8-track cassette recorders, Otari 1-inch 8-track tape-deck, computer, etc...). Our biggest inspiration for this style of recording comes from CAN, who recorded hours upon hours of improvised material (with minimal overdubbing), and then edited their sprawling jams into coherent albums.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Camera, CAVE, Antecessor, Carlton Melton, Bitchin Bajas, just to name a few.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I would love to cover Silver Apples, I'm not sure how exactly, but it would be a challenge.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We'll see, we've got a bunch of recorded material that we need to go through and edit into a new album. We have recently experienced a line-up change, so we're working on moving forward with some new people, and new sounds.

Light Bulb Blues with Os Noctâmbulos - An Interview

***** Interview with Os Noctâmbulos *****

Q. When did Os Noctambulos start, tell us about the history...
Hey Renato, thanks for taking time to ask us a few questions!

Os Noctàmbulos formed in Paris at the end of November 2012. Coline (Bass) and I (Nick) had moved to Paris together in September 2012 and i really wanted to start playing music with a band again after a year just recording for a solo album, 39th & The Nortons.

Coline and I had played together in The Jesus Loves Heroin Band and on our first tour in France we met Baldo (Drums) who was then playing for The Carpet Sellers, he got us in to their gig for free supporting The Standells the same night our gig in Paris got cancelled. We met Valentin (Lead Guitar) later on the same tour in Le Mans, he was playing with Elvis... a really cool surf band. They were the first two people we thought of when we moved to Paris and luckily they were both free to play with us, even if Baldo was in four other bands at the time.

Q: Who are your influences?
The biggest influence on my songwriting has to be Gene Clark & Greg Cartwright, for me, the best songwriters past & present. These artist never disappoint over the many records they released and always put emphasis on lyrics & melody. Then there is Gram Parsons, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, The Human Expression, The Seeds, Boy Dylan, Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Sly & The Family Stone, Baby Huey, Lambchop and on and on…

Valentin loves alot of the modern garage bands such as King Khan, Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees & Black lips and used to play in a great surf band called Elvis... so that's where his phrenetic guitar playing style comes from. The Sonics and Link Wray are two other artists he takes his guitar influences from. Coline is influenced more by Soul music and Nuggets/Back from the grave compilations. Baldo, from all of his previous bands, could be called a revivalist but he listens to all kinds of music and can find the positives in any style. He's the most melodic drummer i've ever played with.

We all listen to lots of different music and we’d really like to distance ourselves from the revival scene, we’re not looking to revive anything, we’re just trying to be ourselves and are looking forward to seeing how our music evolves. When we first got together the idea was to make a garage band, we recorded our debut Split 12” and Corsica Garden after 8 months of being together and I think after this time we have developed as musicians and now believe we can push things further than just being a garage band, we’ll see.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Gene Clark & The Godsin Brothers – Echoes
The Flying Burrito Brothers – The Gilded Palace Of Sin
Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci – Spanish Dance Troupe
Reigning Sound – Home For Orphans
Bob Dylan & The Band – The Basement Tapes

Q. How do you feel playing live?
We’re starting to have real fun playing live, every show we really go for it and so far, usually depending on how much time we’ve been able to practice before the show, we have had mixed results. We’re in a constant state of evolution live as we’ve never settled on a set list and now have over 30 songs to choose from. Valentin and I are always pushing to play new songs too but I think over the next few months we’ll just try to find a group of songs that work well live so that we can make sure we nail the set every time we play. Apart from Baldo we’re not so experienced at playing live but after every show we’re feeling more comfortable and confident.

Q. How do you describe Os Noctambulos´ sounds?
Country, soul songs played by a garage band with lots of reverb.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We’ve recorded three times so far. The first two times we recorded at Baldo’s home studio in Massy-Palaiseau. At the studio there are really great amps, a Vox and a Fender Twin Reverb, a Fender Bassman and lots of vintage drum kits. We began by recording everything live onto ½ Reel to Reel and afterwards overdubbed vocals, organ and piano. We used this process to record the 16 songs on our Split 12” & Corsica Garden in 2 days July 2013. We did the same for tracks ‘I Arrived’ & ‘I Can’t Do It’ used for a compilation called Vegetarian Meat on Stolen Body records but this time we used the Twin Reverb for vocals too. I produced all these tracks but I always send them to be mastered by MJ of Hookworms, he has a studio in Leeds called Suburban Home Studios and he does great work there.

Next, we had a day off in Toulouse on our French Tour in October 2014 so we asked Lo Spider if he was free to record a couple of tracks in his studio, Swampland. I’d heard a lot about his work so I wanted to check out how he produced records in a completely analogue studio. It was great, we recorded two straight ahead garage/freakbeat songs ‘Outsider’ & ‘Watching You’ which didn’t really fit with the sound on our next album. I got to play on a Farfisa and use Space Echo for the first time so I was really happy and the songs sounded great too. We’re just waiting for the final masters to come back.

We’re going back into Corsica Garden this December to record our 2nd full album, hopefully out around May 2015.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
New bands in Paris include Dusty Mush, Pain Dimension, TITS, White Ass, Pierre & Bastien, Les Punaises, Chrome Reverse, Miles Coombes, Forever Pavot, Vince & His Lost Delegation & Dame Blanche probably loads more I’m forgeting.

Check out Destination Lonely too, amazing garage from South of France, I saw these last year and didn’t even recognize Lo Spider played with them until after the recording in October, we were talking about bands and I was saying how great they were and he was like ‘I play in Destination Lonely!’ he does have a very forgetful face though haha

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I’d really like to cover The Malibu’s ‘Cry (Over Her) with Coline on vocals, I think she could really nail that song live. ‘Orphan Boy’ by Half Pint & The Fifths would be cool too. I’d also love to cover ‘If You Can’t Give Me Everything’ by Reigning Sound and ‘Cracking Up’ by Jesus & Mary Chain but weirdly enough I think one of Baldos other bands has just started to play that live so that one is out the window.

Q: What´s the plans for future?
We want to release the Outsider/Watching You single on a French label so we get a bit more recognized in France, people think were an English/American band still every time they see us and in reality we are 3/4ths French and formed in France too.

As I said earlier were recording our 2nd album in December and maybe we’ll be recording more songs for another Split 12” later next year too. And we really want to get to Bristol Psych Fest next May so maybe a mini tour of England around then too.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for spreading the music of Os Noctàmbulos and as always; support your local music scene

Fetch with Crisis Arm - An Interview

Essencial.

***** Interview with Crisis Arm *****

Q. When did Crisis Arm starts tell us about the history…
PC: crisis arm started in 2009 as more of an experimental band with me and kevin. around 2011 it evolved into more of what is today with the addition of cameron on the lead guitar.

KM: we have recently added our friend chris broyles to the lineup, allowing for more full instrumentation live and in recording.

CP: before 2011 crisis arm had no cats and that was lame. now crisis arm has 9 cats and that's cool.

Q: Who are your influences?
PC: mostly video game and anime osts

KM: pat, cameron, my friends and family. a ton of bands but not one single defining influence. definitely a lot of shoegaze, dreampop, post-punk and alternative rock. oh, and videogame/anime music of course.

CP: all the cats ever.

CB: praline and dick

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
PC: blade runner ost, persona 3 ost, final fantasy 8 ost, chrono trigger ost, macross plus ost

KM: chrono trigger ost, the cure - disintegration, cocteau twins - heaven or las vegas, the smashing pumpkins - mellon collie and the infinite sadness, my bloody valentine - isn't anything

CB: the first four primal scream records and fun house

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
PC: pretty indifferent really, it’s all about the time and place that affect my mood. a show can feel pretty shitty, but afterwards people will say differently of the performance.

KM: it's fun, stressful, exciting, terrifying, and beautiful all rolled into one.

CP: that depends entirely on whether or not i have coffee in this situation

CB: i wish i was dead right now

Q. How do you describe Crisis Arm's sounds?
PC: a tidal crushing weight on your heart

KM: loud and bittersweet.

CB: broken muffs, cats and reverb pedals

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
PC: the recording processes is always different for each album. we’ve always taken on an ideal that recording should always be a do it yourself endeavour especially in this age of pervasive and powerful technology. whatever we think will make our albums sound a certain way it makes sense to take advantage of that pathway of methods. recording is always an eye opener in ways that we want to go sonically and creatively as a band.

KM: it's usually pretty time consuming and by the time we finish, we usually have to ground ourselves again. we become very immersed into the world our album creates.

CP: lots of coffee and arguing

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
PC: the coltranes and the gravitys

KM: too many to name. look at shows with bands that we play with and that's usually a pretty good indicator, especially these days.

CB: you ever heard of this band called the smiths?

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
PC: not a fan of putting effort into covers

KM: i'll cover anything easy by my favorite bands, but i would rather spend time on our own music if we can.

CB: ravi shankar

Q: What´s the plans for future....
PC: japan

KM: a lot more music making. maybe some collaborations. really good shows, tours and hopefully japan or europe!

CP: amassing more cats. i guess doing some sort of music stuff too

CB: quitting interviews forever

Q: Any parting words?
PC: stay out of school

KM: follow all of your passions. keep your loved ones close. don't give up on something or someone you love. work hard for it!

CP: cool

CB: fuck moby

Winks & Kisses with Airiel - An Interview

***** Interview with Airiel *****

Q. When did Airiel starts, tell us about the history...
Started as a little solo project with a 4-track cassette recorder when I was in college in ’96 or so. Got some drum machines and a cool bass player. We were this self-contained little duo. We had our own mixer and PA and everything. I had this enormous pedal board made of wood with 2 tiers and a Boss Line Selector pedal to go to a Digitech Valve FX rack unit. Too much stuff. Hahaha.

Q: Who are your influences?
The Cure, Cocteau Twins, Kitchens of Distinction, to name a few.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
That is so difficult to answer! In order for it to be the best, it has to be perfect from start to finish, or at least close to perfect. So, that being said…. In no particular order:
The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses
The Charlatans UK – Some Friendly
The Sundays – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic
Supercar – Futurama
The Cure – Disintegration

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It varies from show to show. We have to be loud. I can’t stand where people talk during a show and loudness helps shut them up (or at least drown them out). If the stage volume doesn’t feel like it does at rehearsal, I won’t have fun. I need to have my amps close to me so I can feel the air being pushed out and easily shove a guitar into one to get more feedback. I love to see people dance to our music. People think I always sing with my eyes closed. I’m just squinting and checking everyone out.

Q. How do you describe Airiel´s sounds?
It’s loud and pretty and you can dance to it.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We’ve had different approaches depending on how many people where in the band at the time. The first 3 Winks & Kisses EPs were just me, so we mapped all of the drum machines first and then just layered everything. If we have live drums, we’ll play along with the drummer and keep the scratch tracks if they’re worth it. Kid Games was unusual because we wrote the songs as we recorded them. I love how that EP turned out but that was definitely a weird approach for me.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
StarTropics! They’re from Chicago. I love them to death. New Canyons as well. I like what I’ve heard from Be Forest. I missed them when they came through Chicago.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We’ve done only a couple of covers. We actually released a cover of Swervedriver’s “Blowin’ Cool” for the “Never Lose That Feeling” compilation from Club AC30. We normally do not do covers. That’s really something you do when you’re starting out and don’t have enough material for a whole show. Hahaha. We did a neat one of Ride’s “Seagull” a long time ago. I think we even covered “Something About You” by Level 42 once. That’s been it. Chase and I did a whole set together as Petshop Boys for a Halloween show.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
New LP and single are coming out in 2015. We’re also releasing Winks & Kisses on vinyl in 2015. It’s gonna be nice to have those on turntables, finally. We’ll do some touring to support the new LP.

Q: Any parting words?
I just want to give a shout out to everyone who has been supporting us for so long and asking for Winks & Kisses on vinyl. It’s something I’ve wanted to do forever. We just had to find the right label who felt the same way.

Last Train To Satansville with Diving Bells - An Interview

Q. When Diving Bells starts, tell us about the history...
1. We're an Irish band that formed in South Korea in early 2012 and released our first EP Connection about 2 months later.

Q: Who are your influences?
2. Lots of things although My Bloody Valentine and Yo La Tengo would probably be our biggest influences . As well as that we love Pavement, Animal Collective, Brian Jonestown, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, Panda Bear, Tame Impala. I've been listening to a lot of The Breeders, IceAge and Ought recently.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
3. This is an impossible question but here goes:
Sonic Youth - EVOL
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart
My Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise EP
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Q. How do you feel playing live?
4. Nervous.

Q. How do you describe Diving Bells sounds?
5. Pop music.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
6. The first 2 EPs were essentially recorded in my old apartment in Korea but I'm trying to find a place in Ireland to set things up and hopefully the process can begin again. We generally try to get things done as quickly as possible though when recording.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
7. Girl Band are a great noise band from Dublin who are definitely worth a listen. Come On Live Long are another Irish band on the much quieter end of things but are also well worth a listen. Katie Kim also.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
8. Mmm, no idea to be honest. Maybe a noise version of some Neutral Milk Hotel songs?

Q: What´s the plans for future....
9. The plan is to set up a base and start recording again and hopefully gig as much as possible. We're on the lookout for musicians so if you're reading this and based around Dublin, get in touch.

Q: Any parting words?
Cheers Renato.

MenschMaschine with File not Found - An Interview

***** Interview with File not Found *****

Q. When did File not Found start, tell us about the history...
Daniel: I think it started in 1997. Martin and me exchanged some tapes with our recordings and it turned out that we had almost the same taste in music. Each one of us had some synths and equipment and so we had some recording sessions. Our first songs were quite minimal, during this time our other project „we.“ emerged. But there were also some rather melodic songs, like those „typical“ File Not Found tracks. So we started another project, „File Not Found“.

Q: Who are your influences?
Martin: John Foxx, (early) Human League, New Order, Yazoo, Devo, Second Decay, Ceramic Hello, Dark Day, Severed Heads, Vangelis & Jean-Michel Jarre, Absolute Body Control (and Prince!)

Daniel: I've been strongly affected by the music of computer games, especially by the sound of the C64. I often played all those games only to listen to the great music and sound effects. Furthermore there are Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Beatles (yes!), Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, A Flock Of Seagulls and some more. Of course this all means inspiration to us and more or less you can find some of these influences in our music.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Daniel:
Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral
Depeche Mode – Violator
The Cure – Pornography and Disintegration
Daft Punk – Random Access Memories
Karl Bartos – Communication
Oh... are there six albums mentioned in my list?!;-)

Martin:
John Foxx - Metamatic
Talk Talk - Colour of Spring (hmmmm, or the "Spirit of Eden")
Beatles - Revolver
Kraftwerk - MenschMaschine
Icehouse - Primitve Man

Q. How do you fell playing live?
Martin: Still quite "uncomfortable": - ) still thinking about - Ahhh – what are the lyrics...!?!? still thinking about which gear is about to break (again) and in which "delicate" situation!?! still wondering if the people are really here to see us!?!?!

Daniel: Everytime on stage I'm quite surprised by the happy reactions of the audience to our show. Maybe they like all those gimmicks and toys or our special kind of humor... or is it the music?! anyway it seems that it's alright what we do...

Q. How do you describe File not Found's sounds?
Daniel: It's difficult to describe... well, maybe it's the catchy melodies in many of our songs, garnished with some noisy FX and sounds of old electronic toys like the Speak and Spell. I also think most of our songs have a certain rough edges character 'cause we don't attach much importance to the producing and mastering process of the songs. It's the idea and the atmosphere that counts...

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Martin: Wiring the gear, fiddling knobs, listening to what the machine does and finding the right moment to press the record button! Unfortunatley it's not that easy, 'cause it seems the hardest job is to get INTO the process of writing and recording. The point of (instinctively) knowing the right sound, finding the right words etc. Then it's really easy...

Daniel: Sometimes Martin gives me some fragments or sound patterns which he recorded in his studio. Then I compose and arrange them in my studio to a complete song, and vice versa, I have some sequences or almost finished arrangements and Martin adds some noise or special FX or does the vocals and so on. There's no certain process when we record a song. If you want you can say that Martin is the man for turning the knobs and creating some weird noise, while I rather like to do some arrangements and play some melodies. Overall we complement each other in a very good way.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Daniel: I must admit that I unfortunately don't have enough time to discover more new bands and their music but recently I've mostly been listening to M83 and Vendome.

Martin: New Bands? I'm so busy 'cause I find so much old bands I've never heard of till now. But I'm very glad that Andreas Sippel (the Synth-Guru from the former Band: "Second Decay") recorded some new Songs for his new Band "Vendome"; he released a six-track EP, and hopefully he will release the whole Album very soon. I'm pretty curious about it.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Martin: It must be a song that isn't a typical "electronic" one – so I think about songs from: Foreigner, Saga, Robert Tepper or Russ Ballard

Daniel: The only thing I can say about this is that I would NOT love to make any Depeche Mode cover version...

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Daniel: We're currently working on new songs and hope to release a new album, but we definitely can't say WHEN... music is our hobby, but family and work is more important of course, and so unfortunately there's not much time left for music... however we're trying hard to keep at it!

Q: Any parting words?
Daniel and Martin: Thank you very much for the interview, good luck with your blog and many greetings from Germany to Bazil!

Upside Down with Devil Town - An Interview

***** Interview with Devil Town *****

Q. When did Devil Town starts, tell us about the history...
Devil Town is a solo project. I wrote a few of songs without any pretensions, in a break time with my other band (tannhäuser) where I play bass. Time after I decided to record songs with a friend in his studio and he asked me if I wanted to play in a show, so i had to look for a name.

Q: Who are your influences?
Well, there are influences very obvious like nineties shoegaze and noise: mbv, slowdive, jesus and mary chain or even cocteu twins. And other musicians like Daniel Johnston or Stephin Merrit, great composers in my opinion.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Choose a denitive list of albums That's impossible but I have five titles that was important for me:

1. Loveless - my bloody valentine
2. Pshycocandy - the jesus and mary chain
3. Get Lost - The Magnetic Fields
4. Lust lust lust - The Raveonettes
5. Low-life - New Order

Q. How do you fell playing live?
Playing live is an important part of creative process. I think that a song is not finished until you can have a feedback with people. Unfortunately, we haven't had too many opportunities to do that.

Q. How do you describe Devil Town sounds?
It's pop music with tonnes of reverbs.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Usually I use to record an idea that rounds my head and I loop it, then I look for the sound that I would like and in the end, I write lyrics about something this music inspires me.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Crocodiles or Nothing are international bands i liked, but there are many other in Spain: Gente joven, The Royal Landscaping Society or Miraflores for example.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Cocteau Twins or Daniel Johnston, of course, are two examples of music I would like to cover and maybe I'll do it.

Q: What´s the plans for future...?
First, I'll record new songs and then I'll work in different ways to take that songs to a live show (it's hard to play in Spain).

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks a lot for your interest.

Midnight Thoughts with Volage - An Interview

***** Interview with Volage *****

Q. When did Volage starts, tell us about the history...
Volage starts 4 years ago, as we were friends for 20 tears now. We always did music diffrt style and we just started working together, we were two then 4. It al begun in our hometown Le Blanc, in the center of france, contry side and it still going on now, we always return to our small and dusty garage to rehears. People say that we are a garage band but i think we are not a classical garage band, i mean thus l.p is full of music a dffrt vibes, garage is an esthethic not a sound to us.

Q: Who are your influences?
Influences ? Don't know man, you tell me haha

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Syd barrett - the madcap laugh
Elliot smith - figure 8
Bon Dylan - highway 61 revisited
Kratwerk - Autobahn
William sheller - sheller en solitaire

Q. How do you fell playing live?
Live is a strange strange feeling, it could be the most exiting thing and also the worst. Its all about adrenaline, and feeling the moment. I like making love or sex, it depends when.

Q. How do you describe Volage sounds?
I try to create a sound its also a part of the band. We do not tru to sound like this or that, we just do our own songs and i just working on how to make it sound like the idea i'v got in my head. There is rock music but also pop influences, i dont jnow because i dobt ask myself those questions.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Basicaly, i write songs on my own and then we work it together. Sometimes Paul came with a riff and we just work on this ans then i manage to organise parts a build a struture. It really repends on tracks, for exemple this aint a walk is paul riffin' his guitar, love is all was just me on the piano, tryin to put out this balad i'v had in my head for years.

Recording is dffrt, like we basically record the drums parts live me playing with thibaut, and then most if the time i play all the intruments because it´s easier for me abd the guysvto do it this way. But this time i wanted to have Paul playing his own parts on the album, because his great guitarist and it would´v been a shame to not have him.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I recommend the Meatbodies, Julien Gasc, Forever Pavot...

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We liked to do a cover of french singers, and make a really dffrt songs with it. We do it sometimes sonit would probably happen soon.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
More gigs, more touring, aswe asked us yto go to the states on next august and releasing the album there, recording for the next project, the songs are in the making, almost done.

Q: Any parting words?
Thank you

Philosophy of The World with The Spirit of The Beehive - An Interview

Mezzo shoegazer mezzo noise rock americano, assim caminha o The Spirit of The Beehive em seu debute o barulhento álbum homônimo recém lançado independentemente pela Ranch.

Tago Mago with Krautzone - An Interview

Soa confuso?

***** Interview with Krautzone *****

Q: When did Krautzone starts, tell us about the history...
Onkel Kaktus: Krautzone founded in October 2011. We spontaneously decided jamming togetherafter we met on a festival the night before. Some of us knowing each other for years and another ones met the first time. Originally we only wanted play for ourselves and no one had any thoughts of founding a band, but the result of these really magical recordings were absolutely great - so we decided to continue as a band and bring out a record. That's the birth of Krautzone...

Q: Who are your influences?
Onkel Kaktus: 60s/70s Psychedelic, Krautrock ect. and of course vintage low budget SciFi-Movies.

Dave: for me plus electronic music, spacerock...

Lulu: well, at least - the same.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Dave: OK, let's all name ONE album! Mine is Tangerine Dream-Rubicon.

Martin: can´t do that. to much wonderful albums.

Lulu: That's not possible for me. There is so much great music and my favourites changed all the time.

Onkel Kaktus: I totally agree with Lulu and Martin!

Q. How do you fell playing live?
Dave: We never had a proper gig, so, no words about...

Q. How do you describe Krautzone sounds?
Onkel Kaktus: Mystical and hypnotic soundscapes which take you to a journey to another worlds. Archaic rhytms meet sounds from the future. And above all they're very unique.

Lulu: And cosmic timeless state.. ...

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Onkel Kaktus: Well, we simply enter the studio when we're in the mood. Someone starts to play and the others join in. Everything's totally improved...

Lulu: And this is not often possible because we're spreaded in different parts of Germany. So we arrange a meeting from time to time and let it happen...

Dave: Like the Krautvester, where we recorded the songs for the split LP with Lamp Of The Universe! And some new Zone Six tracks, hehehhe...

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Onkel Kaktus: White Manna, The Spacelords, The Oscillation, Wooden Shjips, Lamp Of The Universe, The Cosmic Dead, Hexvessel, Sangre De Muerdago, Nebelung, :novemthree:... just to name a few. There are so many great bands around...

Dave: I agree with Kaktus, plus Papir, Farflung, Mugstar, Follakzoid, Grails, and all the bands from my label! hehehe! Seven That Spells, Giobia, Yuri Gagarin, Tracker, The Movements etc.

Lulu: Sula Bassana

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Krautzone covers a song???? Hahahaha! Maybe "how deep is your love"???? HAHAHAHHAHAA!!!!!!!!

Lulu: Dave, do not talk about our secrets you sucker!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I would prefer Backstreet Boys.

Dave: aaaahhhhhh! NOOOOO!!!! How about a Van Halen song??? hahahahaha! Jump!

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Onkel Kaktus: Bringing out some more records and hopefully playing some gigs one day

Q: Any parting words?
Lulu: Enter the Krautzone!!!

Dave: PEACE!!!! Save all animals! And give me all your Synthesizers! hahahhaa!!!!

Onkel Kaktus: May the Kraut be with you!!

Exploded Drawings with Cosmetic - An Interview

Daí, você pega e escuta o Cosmetic, italianos, e o disco Conquiste, é pra sair pulando e louco pra fazer um guitar air.

Puta banda legal do cacete o Cosmetic

***** Interview with Cosmetic *****

Q. When did Cosmetic starts, tell us about the history...
A. we started as a cover band in the late nineties (don't all the band) with a great fascination for the electric instruments itself, Nirvana, Deftones, rage Against the Machine (!!!), and then year after year we changed and circa in 2007 we stopped searching a sound and start developing our own sound. Q:

Who are your influences?
A: We usually say Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Polvo and Domenico Modugno's Volare, but you would surely find something else as you go deeper in the listening..

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
A. Calla "Televise" -
Motorpsycho "Blissard" -
Ariel Pink's "The Doldrums" -
Polvo "Exploded Drawings" -
Beach House "Bloom"

Q. How do you fell playing live?
A. It's always a challenge. You don't know how people would take it. Often they keep away from front row. Other times they singalong some tunes. In both case it's not just bad or good. It's an exchange of feeling, and often at the end your too tired not to only think to a good beer!

Q. How do you describe Cosmetic sounds?
A. Melody and noise fighting each other to prevail, and there's no victory, only fight!

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
A. Bart brings 13-14 songs arranged on four-track, 4 or 5 are quickly discarded, another 8 or 9 are well embraced by the rest of the band, we start rehersal and they grow up and fix, another 2 or 3 came up during the process and then we go in the studio and usually 1 more is yet discarded.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
No Age, Beach House, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Tame Impala, Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing....

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We've only made (and recorded) three cover in these past years, two were from italian punk bands Altro and Raein, while the third was a "polvo-style" cover of Nirvana's Drain you! Tonite I was thinking about making a cover of "sound of confusion" by the spacemen 3.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
There's a new album coming out next month, and we're going to tour for it in the next one year or two. Then we'll see!

Q: Any parting words?
A: Be Yourself! Scream and shout! Don't be afraid of the noise you hear in your heart!

The Fire of Love with Terminal Twilight - An Interview

***** Interview with Terminal Twilight *****

Q. When did Terminal Twilight starts tell us about the history…
M: It started out as an instrumental project I was working on with the same name. I was making soundtrack type of music that was using more and more electronic instruments. Then Molly came into the studio one night and started singing on a song, just as a late night whim really, but we liked the way it sounded and then Terminal Twilight became what it is now. We put out our first 12” vinyl in 2010 on our own label.

Q: Who are your influences?
The Cramps, Peggy Lee, Durutti Column, Shadow Morton, Tav Falco, Suicide, Charlie Chaplin, Film Noir, S.E. hinton. Odd cult singles like Snowy Red and Carol’s breakdown/so low, Dorothy’s “softness”, and the Honeymoon Killers’ Histoire à suivre that have this kind of combination of toughness and vulnerability that appeals to us.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Chrisma’s hibernation,
OMD’s architecture and morality,
This Mortal Coil’s Blood,
League of Nation’s Music for the New Depression,
Felt’s poem of the river

Q. How do you feel playing live?
People have said we look like we’re really mad at each other when we play. We’re not.

Q. How do you describe Terminal Twilight ' s sounds?
Black and White with accents of neon blue and pink. Faraway but close. Feline.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Boy and girl go into a dark room for 3 years, try to get 30-year old equipment to work, laugh, cry and hopefully come out with a record.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Real Lies from england only have a few songs out but this song called North Circular is really lovely and poetic. Mourn from spain seem cool, they reminded me of Slant 6 or Quixotic when I first heard them. HTRK’s Psychic 9-5 club is the album I’ve liked the most this year. Lately Scissor and Thread releases like Black Light Smoke when I need something with a steady beat. The new Blonde Redhead is really good. We’re looking forward to the upcoming Cosmetics LP. We mostly listen to a lot of the same old records over and over again.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Simple songs with classic themes. “The Storm” by Jody Reynolds but we’ve already done one of his songs. I have almost no patience for making faithful versions — and it doesn’t make sense to me to cover a band that’s too close to your sound or genre or whatever. Our Mother the Mountain by townes van zandt could be interesting. Mystery Train by junior parker. We recorded a cover of dean martin/lee hazlewood's “Houston" because we grew up there but I don’t think we’ll ever release that. We actually keep a list of songs we’d like to cover. There’s a mobb deep song on there for some reason. Also Dionne Warwick’s “Walk on By" and some Carpenters songs are on the list.

Q: What´s the plans for future….
We’re finishing our new LP and also a 12”. We’ll be releasing a song from the album in the next few weeks called “Pretty Baby."

Q: Any parting words?
Stay gold.
