Decadence with White Night Ghosts - An Interview

***** Interview with White Night Ghosts *****

Q. When did the White Night Ghosts start, tell us about the history...
*A. In 2011, after the split of my band, I began to record songs in my room. I recorded and published 2 demos between 2011 and 2012 under the name of White Night Ghosts. The name came from a song which a friend of mine wrote when he was really bad. However the project began in 2013 with the recording of my JOY EP, mixed by my friend Joris Saïdani (who plays Drums in the Post-Rock band Corbeaux). The EP has been released by Cranes Records, a great French label. Few months ago I released Decadence Remixes, a compilation of remixes of my track, Decadence, by great bands like Bloody Knives, Suffering Astrid, Promise and lot more. Now I'm making Remixes for the bands that I love: Dani Shivers, Hermetic Delight and Like The Stargazer Lilies, I will release this soon and continue to make remixes for other bands. Above all I'm working on a new EP and preparing a live set.

Q: Who are your influences?
*A. Slowdive, Deerhunter, Trust, Crystal Castles, My Bloody Valentine, Screen Vinyl Image, The Soft Moon, No Joy, Gasaffelstein, Fuck Buttons, Marilyn Manson, M83, Suuns, Cocteau Twins, Working For A Nuclear Free City, A Place To Bury Strangers, Unison, Salem, The December Sound, SPC Echo, Bauhaus and lot more...

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
*A. 5 is not enough but...
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Trust - TRST
Bowery Electric - Bowery Electric
Fuck Buttons - Surf Solar
Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone

Q. How do you feel playing alive?
*A. I haven't played for a while, and I miss it a lot ! I'm working with a friend on a live set, also trying to make something visual for the live (I'm a student in Digital Arts), I want to make a great show.

Q. How do you describe White Night Ghosts´ sounds?
*A. I just can say that the new EP will be in the vein of our track Decadence. It sounds like when you are in a strange night club, doing a party to enjoy all the bad things in life; kind of exorcism. By the way the name of this EP will be Exorcism Party, it will be released in few months.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
*A. It's never been the same but most of the time I begin by the drums and the bass, then I write lyrics, and after that I create the wall of sound, according to a lot of importance of the structures.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
*A. The Post Rock band Corbeaux who just released a new album, Nothing and their fucking amazing album Guilty Of Everything and a great young french guy who play under the name of Lifestep's Collection.

Q: Which bands you love to make a cover version?
*A. I don't really want to make some covers but anyway I would like to remix Jesse Ruins, Unison and Be Forest.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
*A. Finish my 5 tracks new EP and begin to play live, can't wait. I would like to make a music video too.

Q: Any parting words?
*A. Be ready for the Exorcism Party.

Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret with YusYus - An Interview

***** Interview with YusYus *****

Q. When did YusYus starts, tell us about the history..
- We wanted to express ourselves musically, and to leave our mark on the minimal wave scene. We started planing the concept of YusYus at the summer of 2012, and our first concert was in march 2013. when it all became official.

Q: Who are your influences?
David Sylvian, Frank Tovey, Gabi Delgado, Sean McBride, Lene Lovich, Miles Van Der Rohe, Mark Almond…

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
1. Deux - Agglomerat
2. Borghesia - Ljubav je hladnija od smrti
3. Daf - Alles ist gut
4. Japan - Tin Drum
5. Soft Cell - Non-stop erotic cabaret

Q. How do you feel playing live?
- Drunk, jk

To us stage performance it is very important, including the visuals, esthetics and body language, so we dive into our hypnotic vision and the time flies by.

Q. How do you describe YusYus´ sounds?
Its a subtile mix of cold and warm, emotion and sex, violence and frustration.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We record when we can with the help from our friends from Zagreb, "How Convinient" studio. They did a super job producing and mastering all of our songs. We also do some recordings in "Studio 11" in Subotica. We are slowly investing in hardware, so we will be more independent in the future.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Maoupa Mazzocchetti, Deutschland Western, The Flesh Community, SOK, Trieste..

Q: Which bands you love to make a cover version?
We didn't really think about that, but something from Fad Gadget maybe..

Q: What are your plans for the future....
We have a big concert on 21th of October with Xeno and Oaklander in Belgrade.

Later on we will release our first EP that was recorded live on our concert in Drugstore Belgrade, on our Perfekt Funktion label.

In march 2015. we will release maxi single for Tacura Records.

Q: Any parting words?
Listen to minimal synth and eat muffins.

Torch of the Mystics with Flamingods - An Interview

***** Interview with Flamingods *****

Q. When did Flamingods starts tell us about the history...
It started in 2009 as my solo bedroom project! I was sick of the indie music I was previously making and wanted to break away into some less explored territory, looking more into mystic chanting, psychedelic music from around the world and hypnotic rhythms seen in tribal music. I grew up with the rest of the guys in Bahrain, they joined in 2010 and helped define the sound we are known for today by bringing their many other influences on board!

Q: Who are your influences?
We listen to so many different styles of music, which is why we probably sound so varied at times! Anything from Ghanian highlife to psychedelic music and traditional Arabian sounds. If it’s got an interesting sound, we’ll be all over it!

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
1. Sun Ra – Sleeping Beauty
2. Animal Collective – Feels
3. OOIOO - Gold and Green
4. Ghana Special: Modern Highlife, Afro-Sounds & Ghanaian Blues 1968-81 (Soundway Records Compilation)
5. Sun City Girls – Torch of the Mystics

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It always feels so alive, like bringing all these ideas in our heads into a physical action – it’s deeply satisfying! When people are able to understand the feeling & spirit of the sounds we create, it always feels gratifying, especially if they show this by dancing. It makes us feel like we’ve achieved what we set out to do.

Q. How do you describe Flamingods´sounds?
I tend to think our sound is split into two, one by our records and the other our live performances. Our recordings (specially our new album) is a sort of voyage of worldly sounds, conjuring up imagery of ancient civilisations and dreamy landscapes. Our live sound is more like a shamanic, out of body surge of energy and tends to be quite loud and psychedelic whilst maintaining danceable grooves.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Well this has changed quite a lot in the past year or two. We’re living very far away from each other right now so most of our songs are written through sending audio files back and forth through the internet. Someone in the band has an idea for a song: the imagery, the vibe and a riff to work with and the others try to interpret this and add elements until the song is finished.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Beaty Heart are one of our favourite bands of all time, we’d recommend their brilliant debut album ‘Mixed Blessings’. Islet also create fantastic sounds and offer one of the finest live shows we’ve ever seen!

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We’ve always wanted to cover ‘Genius of Love’ by Tom Tom Club! We don’t tend to do many covers though. The only cover we ever created is being released later this month via Art is Hard Records Pavement cover album, you can learn more about that here: https://artishardrecords.bandcamp.com/album/jam-kids

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Things are tricky for us right now. Visa issues have caused the band to be living in far away parts of the world, we tour when we can but this is usually only in summer. We do have some fun projects being released in the coming months though such as a dance remix album. We might also be scheming a top secret winter show in the new year – stay tuned!

Q: Any parting words?
Try to use the right side of your brain more people!! Oh and buy our new record https://shaperecords.bandcamp.com/album/hyperborea

Passing Complexion with Koban - An Interview

***** Interview with Koban *****

Q. When did Koban starts, tell us about the history...
Koban started in a rundown, moldy, basement in Burnaby, which eventually burned down. Coming from the “oh so musical” town of White Rock, Sam and I both had our own projects. Sam played bass in a grungy punk band and I played 80s inspired thrash metal. During the winter of 2008 our bands were on hiatus, and we were bored/joined at the hip, so we started jamming. Our band name was, unfortunately, “Mantaray-gun.” We had sort of a washed out garage/punk sound and fiddled with drummers, but none of them worked out. We ended up getting a drum machine because we were obsessed with Big Black and tired of drummers bailing on us. The sound kind of formed and progressed around the drum machine, as well as around bands that used them that we were inspired by.

Q: Who are your influences? Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Steve Albini: Big Black, Shellac, Rapeman etc (really looking forward to the new Shellac album)! Nirvana: Bleach
Light Asylum: Light Asylum
Sonic Youth: Goo
Twin Crystals: Twin Crystals

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
I feel empowered, excited, and fortunate. I wish that I could continuously be on tour and survive off my music, because it really is the one thing that I love the most.

Q. How do you describe Koban´s sounds?
I realize that post-punk is a vague term, however, it’s nice to use because it can be an umbrella for many things and we don’t really like to prescribe to one genre because that is limiting. You could also say that some songs are more dark-wave. We use synths, programmed drumbeats, reverbed vocals, crunchy bass tones and Sam plays through a Vox ac30. We like to try and mix it up, try new things and experiment.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We recently released an EP on Weyrd Son Records called “VIDE.” This record was a dream to record! We did the recording with Josh Stevenson at Otic Sound in Vancouver. His studio was awesome and very relaxed, so we were able to finish the record very quickly (and we are stoked on the sound!). We have tried home recording in the past, and it gets VERY frustrating, especially because there are only two of us.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
//zoo (Vancouver), Mormon Crosses (Vancouver), Other Jesus (Vancouver), Cowards (Vancouver),

Q: Which bands you love to make a cover version?
I would love to cover Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray, but I’m pretty sure Sam wouldn’t let me…

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We are currently working on new material and trying to get our new album out into the world. We just got back from a big tour to Europe so we will probably just stay close to home for the next while.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for reading. Check out vide here: koban.bandcamp.com

Safe as Milk with New Electric Ride - An Interview

***** Interview with New Electric Ride *****

Q. When did new Electric Ride starts, tell us about the history...
We started in around mid 2011 when we were in a band playing the pubs and clubs of northern England doing 60s tunes, then we decided to have a go at doing our own songs. We had all been writing individually and we pooled our songs together and picked which ones to record, went to a cottage in the countryside for a week to record and came out with an EP. All went from there, really!

Q: Who are your influences?
Between the four of us, absolutely loads. Usuals like The Beatles/Stones/Cream/Sabbath etc, but we're really into bands like Spooky Tooth, Quintessence, Jethro Tull, Dungen, Peter Wyngarde, Can, Gentle Giant, Mountain, etc, etc. The list is never ending.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
It changes everyday, but at the moment...
The Beatles - The White Album
Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk
Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come
Colosseum - The Valentyne Suite
The Pretty Things - SF Sorrow

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Love it. It's always a challenge for us as a lot of the songs are 4 part harmony, so we don't get to move around as much as we should because we're always at the mic. Always great to hear a recording transfer to live. Fun to speed things up and make them a little heavier, too.

Q. How do you describe New Electric Ride sounds?
4 different people making 4 different types of music that interest them. Sharp, busy, intricate, lyrical and often quite funny. I think there is a distinct lack of humour in music - especially in 'modern psych'. Most of it seems to be about the posing and pouting. All our favourite artists (Beatles, Zappa, Beefheart, etc) wrote amazing music and didn't mind taking the piss out of themselves or other people. More of that, please.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Adam in the band has his own studio, so we always record there. Nice to have the freedom and not always be on the clock. We rarely record live, always layer upon layer. We've usually got all the parts worked out and written down before recording, so we don't really try to rely on studio effects to make things sound interesting. I always think that a song should be able to be stripped back to a melody, lyrics and a progression and it should be just as captivating and interesting as the final, produced recording.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Really into Tame Impala (of course), Wolf People, Dungen, Prince Rupert's Drops, Kiki Pau, The Halfways, Doctor Nod, Hidden Masters, Jonathan Wilson. We just like a well written song!

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Interesting question! The band that I love, I'd quite like to preserve as they are! Not have us spoil their songs with our own version, ha. Maybe 'Dear Friend' by Jonathan Wilson. That's a perfect example of the songwriting and self-indulgence working together. Love it.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
More music! More gigs! We'd love to get over to the US and South America in 2015. May happen! Who knows!

Q: Any parting words?
Keep supporting NEW BANDS/LABELS! Without BUYERS there would be no more MUSIC! The whole vinyl/tangible music revival is the best thing to happen in ages, let's keep it going! KEEP BUYING RECORDS!

Script Of The Bridge with The Dead Mantra - An Interview

***** Interview with The Dead Mantra *****

Q. When did Dead Mantra starts, tell us about the history.. .
We started playing together in Le Mans in 2008 or something like that. We were just killing time as we were really bored of the city. We recorded a demo and then an EP. After we recorded "Path Of Confusion", two friends,  Denis and Ragnar decided to create Cranes Records and it's been our
musical home since.

Back then, we had Edouard on guitar, and Victoria who was playing the synths and sometimes yelling like a scary little girl on microphones. They both left the band but they're still really good friends. Louis joined the band after that and we have since shared a split EP with Dead Horse One, and just recorded our first LP entitled Nemure. Here's a quick version of the story!

Q: Who are your influences?
We have plenty of influences, and there's too much bands we love to all write their names here. It goes from shoegaze to black-metal, from post-punk and cold wave, to electronic music.

 Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
As we're a quartet, everyone choose one album, and one of those five albums is a record we all really love:

The December Sound - The Silver Album
Pink Floyd - Live in Pompeii
The Chameleons - Script Of The Bridge
Rowland S. Howard - Teenage Snuff Film
James Holden - The Inheritors

 Q. How do you fell playing alive?
We love playing live, but it's also really scary for us I guess. Being scared before going on stage is a good thing. It's always about taking risks, and the way the people in front of you react to the risks you take. You cannot cheat with that. But yeah, we definitely love playing live, even if sometimes it can
hurt. Physically and mentally.

Q. How do you describe Dead Mantra´s sounds?
A mix of rough agressiveness, feedback and violence, filled with melodies. Primitive drums, powerful bass, and a different approach of singing compared to most of the shoegaze bands, rather punk than ethereal. Everything is driven by emotions.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
While recording Nemure, we had the opportunity to take our time for the first time. So it has been quite long as we felt free enough to experiment with sound, to add things to the songs, to take things
off the songs. We've been totally free to do whatever we wanted to do.

We've been surrounded by amazing people who trusted us and gave us total freedom, but also made us push our boundaries.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Definitely Spectres. They're awesome. Their "Hunger" EP is mindblowing and I can say I love everything about their music. We also really loved  "Guilty Of Everything" by Nothing.

I would also recommend Ricardo Tobar's amazing album "Treillis". He's an electronic music producer, but you can hear a massive shoegaze influence in this album.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I really don't know, we had a hundred of cover projects, but never really worked on that. We only made one cover of a Wham! song for a christmas album, really rough and with a drum-machine, so it
was more like a fun thing!

Q: What´s the plans for future....
The plans for the future are to play on stage as much as we can, to write new songs, and hopefully record them quickly.  We're really looking forward to ear what people think about Nemure. It's exciting and scary at the same time!

Q: Any parting words?
Free Gucci Mane.

Underground Youth with The Blackrays - An Interview

The Blackrays é foda mesmo.

***** Interview with The Blackrays *****

Q. When did Blackrays starts tell us about the history...
Normally, I play guitar for The Underground Youth, but in June this year, we decided to take a hiatus until early next year. I didn’t want to be lazy while I was away from the music scene, so I formed The Blackrays. I’d written a lot of songs over the last 18 months, and needed an outlet for them, so it seemed logical to put a band together, and to play some shows. The band is made up of members, who I am close friends with, from other UK psychedelic bands, each of them amazing musicians.

Q: Who are your influences?
Albert Hofmann, Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, François Truffaut, Harold Cohen, The Velvet Underground, Suicide, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Beatles, The Brian Jonestown Massacre. We don’t just take our influences from music or bands, we also absorb other things such as art house cinema, pop art, and the poetry and writings of Ginsberg and Leary In our upcoming UK live shows, we’ll be putting them on as a show, not just a music gig. It’s not just about the music – it’s about the whole experience. And we want that to be full of energy, with plenty of surreal lighting. It’s about creating an atmosphere and entertaining people, not just turning up and playing your music.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Wow! That’s a really difficult one to answer. It depends on my mood at the time, and can vary from week to week. At the minute, I’m loving a lot more fuzzed up side of psychedelia. But that doesn’t mean a thing, because I can go from listening to Sonic Jesus one minute, to listening to Bob Dylan the next. But these are my top five albums of all time….so maybe not a view the whole band share…! Haha.

1. The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground & Nico
2. Jesus & Mary Chain – Psycho Candy
3. The Doors – Morrison Hotel
4. The Stooges – The Stooges
5. Spacemen 3 – Recurring

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
We play our first shows in November and December, so I’ll let you know after then…

Q. How do you describe Blackrays´ sounds?
Fuzzy, dirty and spaced out evenly. I loathe using the term ‘psychedelic’ to describe our music, even though psychedelia is at the very heart of what we do. But there are far too many bands that have jumped on the psychedelic bandwagon, who are nothing but imposters. They think that by wearing a tie-die t-shirt and playing through an echo pedal, it qualifies them as a psychedelic band. Utter bullshit. Psychedelic is simply the new buzzword for the music industry, so I keep away from using it to describe us, whenever I can.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
The first track we put out, ‘Vamp’, had the two guys who are the band SHAWLS playing on it, but they are not going to have any further part in our band. The rest of the recordings are taking place at the studio owned and run by Two Skies – an amazing psych rock band form the UK. We’ve got Dan Cutts and Oliver Harrap doing the magic for us in the studio. All recording takes place mid-week, so as to be more professional and focused about it. Plus – it gives us the weekends off to go party! Haha.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Do they have to be new bands? And can we include an artist as well? If so, everyone should go and fall in love with Madalina Antal’s works of art. The pieces she creates are like the visual version of The Blackrays music. In terms of bands, people really should go look up a Greek band called Psychedelic Trips To Death, who are like the love child of BRMC and Jesus & Mary Chain – but louder and far more intense, and they are phenomenal live. Two Skies are an amazing psych rock band, from the UK and live they are almost untouchable – that’s why I chose to record our music at their studio. Also, people should check out Helicon from Glasgow who are monumental, and probably the loudest band I’ve ever heard. So are Sonic Jesus (I know a lot of people have already heard of them- but just in case they haven’t). They are probably the coolest band on Earth and make some of the best noises around.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
If we covered anything, I’d want to cover Golden Age of Bloodshed by Rowland S. Howard.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Record music, play some shows and entertain people. There’s a single release of Vamp on limited edition vinyl too, along with some shows overseas in the new year.

Q: Any parting words?
Always laugh whenever you can. It’s cheap medicine.

Ode To Night with Neden - An Interview

***** Interview with Neden *****

Q. When did Neden starts tell us about the history...
Neden formed about two years ago as a two-members studio project. Jan Jiskra & Adam Holub - the names behind Neden; living and composing in Prague, Czech Republic. Inspired by atmosphere of the late 70s German electronic "kosmische" music with intentional shift towards more elaborated structure. We work with ambient melodies and atmopsheric sequences created largely on analogue electronic instruments enhanced with sound of acoustic means. Two months earlier we released our first record called "Neden LP".

Q: Who are your influences?
The main influences are "Kosmische/Krautrock" era musicians from 70s, later known under the term "Berlin school of electronic music". On the other hand, we are also influenced by modern classical and avantgarde music.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
We have a lot of favourite music. We can mention artists such as Cluster, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, Ashra, Tangerine Dream, Stockhausen, Varese, Boulez, Ravel, Bartók and others.

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Neden is purely a studio project. Maybe sometime in the future, but certainly not at this time.

Q. How do you describe Neden sounds?
Atmospheric electronic sound with "kosmische musik" influences.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Almost whole Neden LP was created during a year, mostly in the summer months during the nights. In the course of the work it was important to develop a fusion of our common musical ideas. Most of the songs were created during relaxation and spiritual connections of our souls. An important part of this work was to write individual songs into sheet music.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Nothing. Usually we dont know and dont listen to new music.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We haven´t planned to make any so far. We might consider Soupir from Tros poemes de Mallarme by Ravel for this purpose.

Q. About your other project Moduretik, tell us the history, and to you what´s the difference between Neden and Moduretik?
Moduretik has a bit more history behind. Found in 2001, now has five CD releases, two cassette tapes and one 7 inch single. There was also a lot of live shows with Moduretik, but now I dont perform live anymore. Sound of Moduretik is absolute different from the sound of Neden. Just listen it and you will hear the differeces. Moduretik is influed by different sound. It is more about underground minimal electronic sound, also known as "Minimal synth" or "Synthwave".

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Composing ... - with no firm "itinerary".

Translucent Flashbacks with E Gone - An Interview

***** Interview with E Gone *****

Q. When did E Gone starts, tell us about the history...
E GONE came into existence when my former band – The Goner – disintegrated, which was around september 2012. At first The Goner started as my solo project in 2008, but it soon developed into a full band. When it fell apart due to a series of problems I felt that I could just go back to writing and playing music by myself again, calling it E GONE. Some of the material on E GONEs debut All the Suns of the Earth I had originally written for The Goner: like an early version of ”Blind Tribe” floated around in 2009 and ”The Poor of Heart” was part of The Goner rehearsals in 2012.

Q: Who are your influences?
Three early influences would have to be: Palace Brothers, 16 Horsepower and Tom Waits. These artists turned my head around when I heard them for the first time. Later influences are projects like Six Organs of Admittance, Voice of the Seven Woods but also singer-songwriters like Marissa Nadler and Jason Molina. I think personally that my teenage obsession with The Downard Spiral by Nine Inch Nails also plays a part in some of my production choices. But maybe only I can hear that...

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Isengrind/Twinsistermoon/Natural Snow Buildings – The Snowbringer Cult
Various Artists/Harry Smith – An Anthology of American Folk Music
Tom Waits – Swordfishtrombones
Palace Music – Arise Therefore
Joakim Skogsberg – Jola Rota

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
I like being on stage and I think I do it fairly well. It gets a bit lonely without a band, but I build a camp onstage with samplers, synths, guitars and candles to keep me company.

Q. How do you describe E Gone sounds?
Psychedelic post-punk from the middle ages.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
The recordings for All the Suns of the Earth were done in my small home studio and at The Goners former rehearsal space. I used a small set of microphones, semi-professional hardware and on top of that a lot of mixing ”in the box”. A majority of the songs are written while they are being recorded, that is, they are built from the ground upwards and I use external effects and/or possibilities within the DAW as an instruments in themselves. Every song is a new playground. I like to have a phase in the beginning of recording where everything is permitted, I just keep adding stuff, playing around. And when I seem to grasp what the song wants to do, I start arranging.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I’m heavily into Swedish composers Hans Appelqvist and Erik Enocksson at the moment. Morgan Delt is really good. The latest Timber Timbre record were on heavy rotation at my house for about six months. Best live act around these days is probably Master Musicians of Bukkake. Can’t get enough of that.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I’d love to make my own interpretations of some Old Weird America classics, like Shady Grove or I Wish A Was A Mole In The Ground.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
I'm in the process of recording the follow-up record to All the Suns of the Earth, it will be called Advice to Hill Walkers. It will be entirely instrumental, almost completely psychedelic and droney, and therefore a more consistent record than All the Suns... There is a third record planned, entitled Adventures Before the Body. But I can’t say much about that record as of yet. These three records form a sort of trilogy. I also plan to play live more.

Q: Any parting words
Thank you for having me. And check out https://www.facebook.com/eegonee and/or www.e-gone.org for more. Cheers!

Black Time with You´re Smiling Now But We´ll All Turn Into Demons - An Interview

Agora o negócio fica perigoso no TBTCI, hora de You´re Smiling Now Bu We´ll All Turn Into Demons, The Demons pros mais chegados.

Contact High chega a nós via Cardinal Fuzz e chega chegando pra dissimular tudo e todos.

***** Interview with You´re Smiling Now But We´ll All Turn Into Demons *****

Q. When did You´re Smiling Now But We´ll All Turn Into Demons starts, tell us about the history...
Ryan: I first met Tom and Richie 12 years ago at a gig in a comedy club of all places. They approached me selling copies of their Evil Powers Of RockNRoll fanzine, and as the bands were so bad that night, we completely lost interest of what was happening on stage and chatted at length about our shared love of the Melvins and bands with long names. YSNBWATID was sort of already up and running by that point, so I was the last person to get involved in the band in its current form. It’s been emotional.

Thomas: I was set to join Richie and Steve's band Evil Pantano, learned most of their songs, then the drummer quit five minutes before my first gig with them. We decided to carry on under a different, longer, stupider name. We'd seen Ryan playing locally and kind of stole him away from his band of the time, his drumming was just too powerful for those guys.

Richie: We all played in bands around Portsmouth as teenagers and had played in some different groups together before Demons started. Tom and I had briefly played together in a hardcore band and Steve and I had played in Evil Pantano for a couple of years. Tom had been jamming with us and we used to see Ryan drum in his previous band whenever they were playing and he was suggested to us as the ideal man to fill the gap in the new group.

We played our first gig in July 2002 and the first set of songs we put together was a CD-R album Jesus Loves The Demons in 2003. We had a split with our friends Escanna around the same time. By 2005 we’d written and made lots of recordings so we put out a handmade triple album box set with Black Demon Time / The Freewheelin’ Demons / Q. Are We Not Men? A. We Are Demons! The last album we put out was Contact High in 2009 – which has just been reissued on vinyl by Cardinal Fuzz. Over the years we’ve been lucky to play with lots of great bands including some of our favourite artists like the MC5, Dead Meadow, Wooden Shjips and The Icarus Line, and one time with Damo Suzuki as part of his backing group.

Steve: My formative years in bands were fun but musically limited. It wasn't until I met Richie at college in 1999/2000 that I took a step away from indie and explored different genres. We formed Evil Pantano which was rooted in noisy art punk, drawing influences from bands like Fugazi, Q And Not U, Les Savy Fav and also heavy riffs from Kyuss / Queens... and other stoner bands. Tom came on board and once Ryan was recruited it felt like we ready to create some cool tunes.

Q: Who are your influences?
Ryan: It’s varied throughout the years, and we’re still discovering music (new and old) that shapes what we do. There’s definitely a ‘sound’ that guides us though, which, in my opinion, is basically loud, heavy doom-laden psychedelic rock with a multitude of twists.

Thomas: It's varied over the years depending on what we're listening to. All our album titles have referenced our influences as well.

Richie: From when we first started we shared an idea of the sort of sounds we wanted to create, and for what works when we play together and that has developed over time. We’ve never really stuck to a formula or a certain style, and we just like to see what comes out and push ourselves to improve on what we have done before when we are working on new ideas.

Steve: I think there are core genres or influences that we all love but it constantly evolves and changes. We're always bringing new music to each other's attention.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Ryan: In no particular order (these albums are some of my notable favourites, and possibly not my top five albums of all time): Nirvana ‘In Utero’, Black Sabbath ‘Paranoid’, Swans ‘The Seer’, The Icarus Line ‘Penance Soiree’ and Sonic Youth ‘Sonic Nurse’.

Thomas: Gong 'Flying Teapot', Richard & Linda Thompson 'Pour Down Like Silver', The Howling Hex 'All Night Fox', The Band 'Music From The Big Pink', Bert Jansch 'L.A. Turnaround'.

Richie: ‘Bo Diddley Is A Gunslinger’, Ornette Coleman ‘The Shape Of Jazz To Come’, The Monks ‘Black Time’, Oneida ‘Come On Everybody Let’s Rock’, White Magic ‘Dat Rosa Mel Apibus’.

Steve: That's tough and I would probably spend all day mulling it over. Current favourites that get a whirl are Caribou ‘Swim’, Comets on Fire ‘Blue Cathedral’, Hot Snakes ‘Suicide Invoice’ and anything by Madlib or J Dilla.

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Ryan: I usually feel pretty good. It’s difficult to explain the feeling of playing live as there’s little to compare it to. I generally zone out for 30-45 mins, so I guess it’s like being on drugs for that short space of time.

Thomas: I love it, it's my favourite part of being in the band.

Richie: If the preparation is relaxed that’s great for getting into the right headspace for playing and locking in together, to get a little lost, and hopefully anyone watching can feel that too. If it’s a rush that can create a different sort of energy, and that is fun too.

Steve: I like the tension just before we start, the anticipation of what will happen and how the crowd will react. After 12 years we know our sound and we know each other well so I think we are confident in the delivery. When we first started our sets were quite a visceral, primal experience. Now we control the shapes and sounds we want to portray and I like to see the effect it has on people, good or bad.

Q. How do you describe You´re Smiling Now But We´ll All Turn Into Demons´s sounds?
Ryan: Loud (could be louder though).

Thomas: Many riffs and top-shelf drumming.

Richie: Escape… from all of that.

Steve: Trippy tops and heavy bottoms

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Ryan: It’s usually a lot quicker and simpler than I imagine it to be. The whole process of writing/recording music with YSNBWATID is pretty organic because I think we have a really good understanding of each other as musicians and we’ve always just clicked as a group.

Thomas: We bring ideas and work on them in practice, once there's a few new songs we start thinking about how they could fit together. The recording has got to be quick as possible so we usually draw up a running order and rehearse the tracks hard. Two days is the longest we've spent recording an album.

Richie: For our last few releases the recording process has been different and with different results. We’ve recorded with friends straight onto a computer when jamming and we’ve also used a digital system and laid down drum and bass followed by guitars and overdubs separately. Our most recent recordings were all done live and analogue, in the room and onto tape in a few hours, with the rest of the time spent adding layers of extra noise/percussion/whatever we felt the tracks needed.

Steve: As Tom said, recording is pretty quick due to financial constraints. Our songs are written in an organic way, jamming out what works and doesn't. If we had the cash I would like to write in the studio, to capture the moment on tape when an idea first comes to fruition.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Ryan: I don’t know how long they’ve been around for, but Widdershins from Switzerland and Black Bombaim are worth checking out.

Thomas: Bands we've played with recently who've been exciting and amazing: Sly & The Family Drone, The Cosmic Dead, Workin' Man Noise Unit, Jungfrau.

Richie: All of the above, plus Kogumaza, Dead Sea Apes, Fuzz Orchestra, Bo Ningen.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Ryan: Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Thomas: We've been involved with a Black Sabbath tribute band called War Pigs for a few years now, it's great fun. I'd like Demons to have a crack at 'St Vitus Dance' from Volume 4.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Thomas: The plan is write more music, play more gigs, record new songs, continue! We never really plan anything though.

Richie: Earlier this year we recorded a new album at Chuckalumba studio in the New Forest. It’s taken a while, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with people – hopefully later this year.

Steve: I'm looking forward to getting the record out and playing shows. I'd like to play some festivals next year....

Q: Any parting words?
Ryan: Don’t cross the streams.

Forever Changes with Amen Dunes - An Interview

Tanto faz, porque o Amen Dunes é predileto e ponto.

***** Interview with Amen Dunes *****

Q. When did Amen Dunes starts, tell us about the history...
It started in 2006 when I recorded the music that would become DIA in a trailer home in the western Catskills. It wasn't intended for release but Locust Music really liked it. I was living in china though by the time he heard it so it didn't get released until 2009 when I moved back to nyc.

Q: Who are your influences?
A million, but I always think of AD as Bob Dylan filtered through Throbbing Gristle. But it widely ranges from Nas to Judee Sill to Eyehategod to Dead C to Underworld

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Big star - sister lovers
Love - forever changes
Rolling Stones - exile on Main Street
Grateful dead - American beauty
Las - Las

Q. How do you fell playing alive? I try and be open and give something to people, I try and give off energy.

Q. How do you describe Amen Dunes sounds?
Alien elemental song

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
I normally wait until an energy hits me and then I just find an instrument and open my voice up and something comes out. I often reshape or interpret the words later

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Of popular bands I really just like two Kurt Vile and Iceage - I also love a lot Chicago stuff, Lil Bibby, Chief Keef that whole world. I love the new Wiz Khalifa video too. Then I love Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, and a lot of electronic music, most things Alter, Firecracker Recordings, and Posh Isolation put out.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Well I just did a This Mortal Coil cover for a new EP coming out in early 2015 that I'm pretty psyched about, did it with my friend Ben Greenberg.

Q: What´s the plans for future.... Touring for the rest of this year, then I'm going to LA in December to start writing the new album. Might go to China/SE Asia in early 2015, and then we start recording the new LP which we hope to have out about a year from now.

Q: Any parting words?
Nothing is better than Bob Dylan and the Beatles.

Hoje o TBTCI apenas gostaria de demonstrar o quão importante é Mr. Robert Young é precioso...

Descanse em paz amigo..... sentiremos sua falta....

Heaven Up Here with The Balcony Stars - An Interview

We have a portable 8 track studio and home and work on our sound and songwriting there . It will be accompanied by a video from American filmmaker Christopher Edwards . Early 2016 will see the release of A Balcony Stars album and maybe even a live show or 2 .. If The Black Angels come calling .

Q: Any parting words?
Go and find music that isn't in the pop charts . Look online , read more music blogs , go and see bands in small clubs rather than arenas and also start your own band and get your music on soundcloud and BANDCAMP and get yourself heard . Take care . Much love x

Stone Free with Samsara Blues Experiment - An Interview

***** Interview with Samsara Blues Experiment *****

Q: When did Samsara Blues Experiment start, tell us about the history...
I started the band in 2007 after the break-up of my former band Terraplane. We started as a three-piece jam band, then added second guitarplayers for the last years and since 2014 are again a three-piece. We played most of Europe, the US-Westcoast, released three albums, you should know all about that already ;-)...

Q: Who are your influences?
I started being a musician around 15 years ago. Back then I was influenced by Hendrix, Zeppelin, Doors and these bands. Nowadays I am more into Soul, Folk and what I´d call "weird music" like some electronic meditative stuff or else. I also love crooners like Frank Sinatra a lot. But end of the day we are still sort of a psychedelic Stoner/Doom band and guess we´ll remain this.

Q. Made a list of 5 albums of all time…
Oh man, don´t know where to start so I´ll pick one for each different and significant period as there were Metallica "Black Album" when I started playing music, Nirvana´s "Unplugged" when I was heavily in love for the first time, Zeppelin "BBC Sessions" when I got older and tired of most of the Metal stuff I used to listen to and really yearned for Heavier Blues tunes, then I have to mention the Dorrs, my all time favorite band if to name one. My fave Doors album would be "Waiting For The Sun". Last but not least an album no one might expect, but these days, actually for almost two years, I am heavily addicted to Margie Joseph´s "s/t" album, which is lady soul in its pure form and maybe too sweet for most of you heavy rockers, but I love her music.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Good. For most times at least. I like getting connected to people by sharing that similar vibe, which is our music, which I find at the same time weird and beautiful ;-). I am not much a fan of my own music sometimes, but then it´s who I am. Sounds weird? I guess so.

Q. How do you describe Samsara Blues Experiment sounds?
Weird and beautiful. Sometimes even weirder.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We record the basic tracks live all together and then overdub some Guitar solos, Synthesizers or other instruments and finallly the vocals.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I love the Heartless Bastards. In terms of Stonerock I dig Wight, Mos Genereator and Yob.

Q: Which bands you love to make a cover version?
Ten Years After maybe?

Q: What´s the plans for future...
Having fun but being responsible, aware, more open to the real life which is often beyond a veil of distraction.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for your interest! Best wishes Chris Peters & SBE!
