Beauty Lies in the Eye with Witness 9 - An Interview

***** Interview with Witness 9 *****

Q. When did Witness 9 started, tell us about the history...
1. Witness 9 was started by Acacia & myself as a two-piece band in our old appartment in 2012. We knew of Ryan and Kyle through a past band they were in and had talked about them joining us to solidify a full band lineup...the rest is history.

Q: Who are your influences?
2. Our influences probably all vary by member but my main influences at least towards the stuff I write comes from No Wave bands like Sonic Youth & Live Skull. But we all love shoegaze as well. Bands like Swirlies, Bowery Electric, Catherine Wheel etc...

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
3. Top 5 records in no particular order:
Sonic youth-- Sister
Smashing pumpkins-- Saimese Dream
Fugazi-- The Argument
Can-- Ege Bamyasi
Joy Division-- Unknown Pleasures

Q. How do you feel playing live?
4. We love playing live. There's a certain point when you reach a certain level of volume live where the damaging of your ears can be quite soothing.

Q. How do you describe Witness 9 sounds?
5. Punishing to the ears. Sweet to the soul.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
6. We haven't recorded anything in a studio yet. Kyle and myself have "engineered" DIY recordings that we have done in our basement ourselves.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
6. Creepoid, Tennis System, Chill Pill.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
7. Marcy playground

Q: What´s the plans for future....
8. Keep playing, play out of town, record a vinyl release....

Q: Any parting words?
9. P.s. I love futbol.

Freak Scene with Elizabeth Colour Wheel - An Interview

Use protetores auriculares.

***** Interview with Elizabeth Colour Wheel *****

Q. When did Elizabeth Colour Wheel started, tell us about the history...
We actually started around 1 year ago. We were originally a 3 piece and played a lot noisier and faster music. It was cool, but it really wasn’t what we wanted it to be. We then added 2 new members to make a much bigger and different sound and then wrote all new songs last summer to play when everyone can finally get back together and those eventually turned into our new EP.

Q: Who are your influences?
(Mainly) Boris, Swirlies, Lilys, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Skywave, and Swervedriver.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
We are all pretty much music addicts and this again is a very hard question for us, so we’ll give you what we consider our favorite right now, because it’s always changing.

Emmett: Drugs / Complex – Tera Melos
Nate: Aphex Twin – Syro
Adessa: Alt J – This is All Yours
Billy: Crystal Castles – II
Alec: Flying Lotus – You’re Dead!

Q. How do you feel playing live?
We feel that our sound is at it’s best live. Just about all of our recordings are done live to have that same energy we do when performing, but it still has some trouble coming across. We feel you have to be in the room with us to actually know what we are about.

Q. How do you describe Elizabeth Colour Wheel sounds?
To keep it simple, loud and aggressive guitars and drums with comforting vocals.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
We try to record as live as possible, minimal overdubbing. We prefer to have each song only attempted 2-3 times so the energy is still there. After that many attempts it kind of starts to feel boring. So we’d much rather have a couple mistakes than it not have the energy we know we have.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended
Endon, Sumac, Novella, Pinkshinyultrablast (not new but if you don’t listen to them you should)

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
We already did Crystal Castles and Dolly Parton, so I guess next would be Dinosaur Jr., Melt Banana, Descendants, or La Femme.

Q: What´s the plan for the future....
We just want to keep playing shows and recording music. We want to go as far as possible with it and try to play as many places as possible.

Q: Any parting words?
I think you just about covered it all, thanks for taking your time to interview us!

Countdown to Ecstasy with The Mites - An Interview

***** Interview with The Mites *****

Q. When did The Mites started, tell us about the history...
The Mites started one lonely summer day back in 2011. Allison and Reed were hanging out and decided to write some songs on a whim. Then they hit up their best friend Raul to record drums and the rest is history.

Q: Who are your influences?
The Mites are influenced by a lot of stuff. Early twentieth century Texas and Delta blues; sixties psych/garage/folk; eighties psych and garage; nineties alternative/shoegaze/dream pop; etc.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
This is a brutal request. But here are the five albums we each came up with…these lists change hourly.

Allison: 1. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream 2. Superdrag - Last Call for Vitriol 3. The Ramones - Rocket to Russia 4. Foo Fighters - There is Nothing Left to Lose 5. Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway

Raul 1. B52s - Cosmic Thing 2. Bill Fox - Transit Byzantium 3. Prescott Curlywolf - Arkadelphia 4. Steely Dan - Countdown to Ecstasy 5. Helmet - Betty

Blake 1. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless 2. The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour 3. The Lemonheads - It’s a Shame About Ray 4. Swervedriver - Mezcal Head 5. Crosby, Still, Nash, and Young - Deja Vu

Reed 1. The Beatles - Rubber Soul 2. Neil Young - On the Beach 3. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Will the Circle Be Unbroken? 4. Tommy Johnson - Complete Recorded Works 5. The Cars - S/T

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Well, we haven’t played live yet, but I imagine we’d feel pretty awkward.

Q. How do you describe The Mites sounds?
Like a heavy dollop of sugary-sweet molasses dripping from a wooden spoon in slow motion.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ? Like a newborn babe departing from the womb and gasping for its first breath of air.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Gleeson, The Bremen Riot, Frank Bango, The Mites, Supercrush, White Christ, Bloom, Dissolve

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
The Replacements - Little Mascara

Q: What´s the plans for future....
We currently have enough new material for a full-length album. We plan to begin tracking drums in May and, when everything inevitably fails to go as planned, the album should be done by around 2037.

Q: Any parting words?
“A golden rule: to leave an incomplete image of oneself.”

Love Vigilants with LADY - An Interview

On My Mind segunda faixa de Washer exemplifica tudo. Foda.

***** Interview with LADY *****

Q. When did LADY started, tell us about the history...
1. We were playing music for two years or so, starting with a Misfits cover set at a party in 2011, and then writing some songs. We had a couple of drummers come and go, and when we had Pat join on drums in 2013, we all got a lot more serious and wrote a lot more songs, and established the name LADY. We've definitely fallen into a kind of groove where we get each other, and it makes writing and communicating a lot easier.

Q: Who are your influences?
2. My Bloody Valentine, Stone Sroses, New Order, Slowdive, Brian Eno, The Smiths

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
3. (1) My Bloody Valentine - LOVELESS
(2) Neutral Milk Hotel - AN AIRPLANE OVER THE SEA
(3) The Strokes - IS THIS IT?
(4) Paul Simon - S/T
(5) The Smiths - HATEFUL OF HOLLOW

Q. How do you feel playing live?
4. We love it. Nothing is more exciting to us. We bring a certain energy to the stage, and it gives us an added feeling of communal energy. Plus we find the live show is very important for us. It's the most raw form of feedback we can get, like to see how we're doiing as a band from the crowd's reaction. I mean it took us a little while to get the hang of things in terms of the levels of sound and such. It's a tough genre to nail down because of all the3 effects and noise that go into it, but we're definltely growing more confident with every show we play, and it's only getting more fun.

Q. How do you describe LADY sounds?
5. There's a very melancholy base to our sound, melodically. A chaotic beauty that we strive for, heavily focused on melody and pleasant sounding chordal progressions, but ridden with noise and effects, creating a wall of sound.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
6. Long. We practiced a ton leading up to going into the studio, because we wanted to record the songs live. And we did five songs over the course of every Sunday in April of 2014, and then three days before our last session, where we just had to finish one song, do vocals and mixing, the studio flooded. Even though everything we did was saved, it took them roughly nine monts to relocate and reopen, during which time we wrote a bunch of new stuff. We finally got back in the studio and finished everything last month.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
7. Merchandise, Ovlov, Pile, Wildhoney, Nude Beach, HOLY, Angel Olsen, Advaeta (just saw them open for Moon Duo and we were blown away).

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
8. We have a pretty sick version of "En Gallop" by Joanna Neusom, virtually taking a beautiful song done solely on the harp and turning it into a loud shoegazy song. We've also been kicking around the idea of a cool cover for "This is the One" by The Stone Roses

Q: What´s the plans for future....
9. We're going to do a cassette release for this first EP, and play as mnuch as we can until the end of the year, when we hope to have finished writing a new LP, which we'll be looking to record.

Q: Any parting words?
10. Thanks so much for checking us out and asking these most excellent questions! Tudo de bom!

Bloody Kisses with Himmel - An Interview

***** Interview with Himmel *****

Q. When did Himmel started, tell us about the history...
Well it started about a year and a half ago. I didn't know that it was going to be this kind of project (I mean with different vocalists on each track). I actually was looking for a single singer. But while I was searching for her/him I put many ads around the web. And many great singers replied…. so I took it as an opportunity for collaborating with many different and brilliant musicians and the result is the album "A Long Cold Winter".

Q: Who are your influences?
I have so many. I was a grunge/alternative kid back at school and then passed to electronic music, then came back to rock again. Too many to mention ;)

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
As I said too many; records that got me passioned about music when I was a kid were:

Faith No More - Angel Dust
Type 0 Negative - Bloody Kisses
Carcass - Heartwork
Guns n Roses - Appetite
Mr Bungle - Mr Bungle

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It depends on the project. I loved playing live with Black Rainbows around Europe, as a bass player a few years ago. But that's a rock/heavy/psych band…. for Himmel it would be completely different and at the moment it stays as a studio only project.

Q. How do you describe Himmel sounds?
Dreamy and profound, and slightly dark. At least I hope that this is what the listener gets ;)

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
In all the songs I wrote the instrumental part and then had one of the singer writing the vocals and lyrics on it. Then depending on the vocals, if needed I would work again on the song to modify the structure to fit with it. It usually starts with me, the guitar, and a whole bunch of effects...

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
I absolutely loved Bloom by Beach House, and the debut albums from DIIV and Chvrches. And that's for the more pop side…. For the darker side, I love the work of the Sargent House label: Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle. On the electronic side, Purity Ring and M83 are amongst my favorites lately.

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
I'd say Type 0 Negative. But Peter Steele's voice is inimitable

Q: What´s the plans for future....
I am working on a few songs that I didn't finish for this release and on new stuff.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks Renato for the interview, and thanks to anyone who supported/is going to support us!!

Give Him A Great Big Kiss with The Daddyo´s - An Interview

***** Interview with The Daddyo´s *****

Q: Hey, tells us who are your influences?
Slabby- Well, to name a few (musically) I’d say…My Bloody Valentine, Vivian Girls, Mika Miko, Singapore Sling and The Warlocks. But I’m also influenced by my many emotions and all the crazy dreams I have.

Hastings-  I guess musically it’d mostly be like Pixies and the Cure and Jesus and Mary chain. I like how they write their music. And otherwise… I don’t know, I guess teenage Drew Barrymore.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Slabby- FUCKKKK… 1.Loveless/My Bloody Valentine 2.The Curse of Singapore Sling/Singapore Sling 3. Moanin’ – Mr Airplane Man 4. We Be XUXA- Mika Miko 5. The Doors- Strange Days and how can I forget Smiley Smile by The Beach Boys and every Vivian girls record!

Hastings- I can’t ever think think of shit for this question and I don’t know why. 1.Darklands - Jesus and Mary chain 2. Strange ways, here we come – The Smiths 3.Three Imaginary Boys- The Cure 4. Bossanova- Pixies 5. ELO’s Greatest Hits – ELO (duh) and the soundtrack to The Wedding Singer is pretty prominent in my life

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Slabby- Sometimes super crazy feeling like after drinking 5 glasses of wine since you’re playing last and then you don’t know how that is going to work out for you…and sometimes super amazing and cool and into it, and then sometimes we’re just in the mood to joke around and talk to everyone on stage.

Hastings- It varies. Usually just awkward and lame hahahaha. I’m not nearly as nervous before shows as I was in the beginning. But I still feel like “omg omg omg” and Kylie and I usually just freak out together at the same time so it’s kind of just funny. It’s usually really fun and surreal while it’s happening. But before and after I feel like a nervous dork.

Q. How do you describe The Daddyo´s sounds?
I guess we’re kinda like grungy dreamy shoegazey and a little poppy. And defiantly 90’s inspired..But our songs really are all different from one another. Some days we are really pissed about something and we write a song about it and it comes out loud and angry. Other times we can feel really great and we’ll be joking around and come up with a silly song or a real poppy song!

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
So far we’ve only recorded with one person, Mike Gilliland. He runs a studio called Auggy Reed in Tulsa, OK.Recording has been super fun and chill for us , but the first time we recorded (It’s a Tough World Out There For A Lonely Girl) we just laughed and laughed and couldn’t stop laughing! It was so funny to us for some reason, to really be in the studio recording, something we never thought we’d do! But we’re a lot better about it now (haha!)

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
La Luz, Colleen Green, Death Valley Girls, Habibi, La Femme, Holy Wave, The Shivas….we listen to a lot of new bands that are super talented!

Q: Which band would you love to make a cover version of?
Slabby-Too many. Nirvana, Shangri-Las, Mika Miko, Black Tambourine, Le Tigre…

Hastings- I always thought it’d be cool to have a b-52’s cover band. And third eye blind lol

Q: What´s the plans for future?
We are going to start recording 2 E.P.’s really soon and then we want to release them together on cassette! Also, later this year we plan on hitting up the West Coast for the first time! but waaay into the future we plan on releasing vinyl after vinyl after vinyl and keep playing until we get super old and die together on the exact same day

Q: Any parting words?
Read your bible, eat your broccoli, brush your teeth, hug your mom, don’t’ be a bitch, do what you want, have a nice day! Xoxoxo retly thanks again

Non-Zero Possibility with Harps - An Interview

Pra ouvir, bem alto.

***** Interview with Harps ****

Q. When did Harps start? Tell us about the history...
The idea of the band goes back to Jérôme and myself. We have known each other for a while now and we had already been working together on other projects. But the whole thing really took its definitive form with Matteo joining us last year. Matteo is a very cool guy I met through a common friend, he had just arrived from Italy at a time when we were looking for a solid third element on bass. We started rehearsing together, blending our musical influences into our own style, it’s all been very immediate and natural, the energy was genuine and HARPS was really born.

Q: Who are your influences?
We listen to all kind of music, from classical to electro. But most of the time our hearts and ears go to overdriven guitars and loud drums: bands like Neurosis, RATM, Buried Inside, Mogwaï for instance are very important, along with At The Drive In or Soundgarden. Radiohead and Deftones are big influences too, as well as Bob Dylan for his very unique commitment and poetry in the lyrics.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
That’s a big one… 5 albums of all time, 5 albums that made history… well, obviously this won’t be very original but in that case we can’t help but think about legendary records such as The Dark Side of The Moon, Sgt Pepper’s… OK Computer and the first album by Rage Against The Machine are splendid too. A bit more recently, Crack The Skye by Mastodon really blew us away.

Anyway it doesn’t necessarily mean that we listen to them all the time. Only, you know that when you put these records on the turntable, you’re going to be amazed by the sound, the powerful compositions and how it gets better and better each time you give them a listen.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
We feel exactly where we belong! We feel great!!

That’s how our songs are supposed to be played, so they can breathe and grow stronger. It places us right back into the energy at the origin of the process of creation. We love playing live and are looking forward to making many more live shows in the future.

Q. How can you describe HARPS sound?
We have no precise definition established because our sound is subject to constantly move and get improved and because we don’t want to be labeled into an existing genre. I’d say we could describe our sound as deep and reflexive, with subtle nuances echoing with loud and overdriven ear-wrecking moments.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs
It’s all a DIY process for now. We have produced our first EP from beginning to end. It was recorded before Matteo joined the band and if we were to make another EP with our new material, which we are planning to do soon, we would probably do things differently. Although we are very proud of what we achieved in our recent effort, we feel like we can bring in even more energy and less control. The process for writing a song is that I come with a general idea and direction, an almost structured work and then we try to make it transform into a HARPS song, with each element adding its own character.

So we will try to achieve the same result during a recording process, and try to make the audience feel this mutating experience along with the urgency behind our music.

Q. Which new bands would you recommend?
Many bands would deserve much more credit than they are given right now. Code Orange Kids, Tombs, Minus The Bear, Cloud Nothings, even if they aren’t all really new or even completely unknown bands, they all deserve a lot more audience because they just make awesome music.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
We did some covers when we started, and we still have two for our concerts (we have covers of songs by The Pixies and Beck) but we almost made them our own and really tried to bring something new to the original. Other than that, we are not very much into cover versions anymore. We make music to do our own thing and to create and experiment. So we’re not particularly interested into covering other bands’ songs. Maybe we would like to pay tribute to Nirvana some day, for their raw energy.

Q: What’s the plan for the future?
To become rich and famous, or/and to open a pig farm in the south of Italy. More seriously, we intend to do as many gigs as possible, anywhere anytime (so if you want us to come and play in Brazil, please invite us) and also we hope to enter the studio for recording a new EP before the end of the year.

Q: Any parting words?
We would like to thank whoever will read this interview, and also you in Brazil who asked us about our music. It means a lot to us to see such an interest in what we do. We are grateful and we would appreciate if you spread the word that we are simply good people trying to make good music. Also Matteo would like to say “va in mona”!!

Invitation To Hold with Newmoon - An Interview

***** Interview with Newmoon *****

When did Newmoon started, tell us about the history...
Well, we were so done with playing in a hardcore band for so long so we quit and took some time of to party hard. After about one year we felt bored so we wrote Invitation To Hold.

Who are your influences?
I don’t think I have conscious influences, I just absorb many things unconsciously I guess. Could be artists like Chopin, Murakami, Cobain, Yeezy, Sofia Coppola, ... but at the same time from stuff I go trough or see people going trough or just the beauty and darkness of nature.

Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Right now: Oscar and the Wolf, James Blake, Nothing, Chopin, Pedro The Lion, The Bilinda Butchers.

How do you feel playing live?
Playing live is like watching at the stars at night for hours and feeling infinite in space.

How do you describe Newmoon sounds?
A whirlwind of melody, loud guitars, spacey vocals and the bestt drum beats.

Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
Just drown everything in too much effects.

Which new bands do you recommended?
Soldier’s Heart.

Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Probably Soul Asylum.

What´s the plans for future…
I’m going to move to Tokyo and drink Strong every day.

Any parting words?
"I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you’re allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day."

Peace!!

Up the Down Escalator with Velochrome - An Interview

***** Interview with Velochrome *****

Q. When did Velochrome start, tell us about the history …
T: The band actually started as a solo recording project around 2009 when I moved to Cologne and my old band Otis Optic & The Option People more or less disbanded. Back then a love affair with certain guitar sounds and ways of production led to the very first self-titled EP and then to the forming of a real band around that solo-recorded foundation.

Q: Who are your influences?
T: The initial Velochrome sound adapted a lot from that late 80’s/early 90’s shoegaze and wave guitar sounds and for that early EP phase can be considered as a straight concept project. Over the time however, as a band, we subtly started merging it with further elements, adding a more energetic and lively edge.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time …
T: 5 is probably not enough but regarding what comes into my mind right now, spontaneously and from the spot, I’d say
13th Floor Elevators – The Psychedelic Sound Of …
Pink Floyd – The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
The United States Of America – s/t
Ash Ra Tempel feat. Timothy Leary – Seven Up
Soft Cell – Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret

Q. How do you feel playing live?
T: It’s a lovely thing performing this kind of sound for an audience and it can be fun traveling around for shows. Much to the concern of the other band members I feel more comfortable behind a mixing desk though, haha.

Q. How do you describe Velochrome’s sound?
T: Focused on atmosphere and energy.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
T: All in all the songs were recorded within 3 days with the help of Guido Lucas. Everything has been recorded live to analog reel-to-reel tape with only a few takes per song. Finishing the songs beforehand and finally making the recording session happen took a hell of time longer though …

Q. Which new bands do you recommended
T: I like HTRK a lot, if they still count as a band now. Beyond that I’m more into ambient, industrial and underground dance music regarding current sounds.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
T: I think it’s songs rather than bands. We should finally record our version of “You’re my heart, you’re my soul” by the way!

Q: What´s the plan for the future …
T: Finally record and mix our new album. All the songs are written and we just have to find the right spot and mood to make it happen.

Q: Any parting words?
T: Read more and actively question everything. And thank you for this interview, Renato!

Piano Works with heklAa. - An Interview

***** Interview with heklAa. *****

Q. When did heklAa started, tell us about the history...
-heklAa started in 2010 after my second trip in Iceland, the most wonderful place on earth, as I was stuck on the island with wife and daughter because of (thanks to?) the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull. It was an amazing experience that I had to turn into music. I started playing my own songs with my best friend Stéphane, then the solo project became a trio with a drum player. We played once live, it seems people enjoyed the show, but the band had to split just after that. I kept working on own stuffs with Stephane and finally I decided to spend some money for hardware and software and the project became a solo project again. The first EP ‘Songs in F’ that has been released in March 2013, deals with my two unforgettable trips in the beautiful Iceland.

Q: Who are your influences?
-I feel influenced by post-rock (Sigur Ros, the greatest band int the world (!), Godspeed, Silver Mount Zion, Do Make Say Think, Mogwai…), jazz (Keith Jarrett, E.S.T., Miles Davis, The Bad Plus,…) movie music (John Williams, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore).

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
-1. Miles Davis, ‘Lift to the scaffold’
2. Sigur Ros, ‘Agaetis Byrjun’
3. Godspeed ‘Lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven’
4. Silver Mount Zion, "Born into trouble as the sparks flyupward"
5-Keith Jarrett, "La Scala"

Q. How do you feel playing live?
-I played just once live as heklAa, so in trio. And the experience was amazing. My label is working on gigs for the coming summer. I feel I can express much more live as on a CD. Every time I play piano, I do not have any idea of what I am going to play. I love the improvisation, I just feel free to express the mood and the feelings of the moment. Composing has always been something spontaneous and I will partly improvise in the coming gigs.

Q. How do you describe heklAa sounds?
-That is a good question and I have no clever answer, sorry! I just know that I want my Eps / albums to give every time something new. People should say ‘That is definitely heklAa’s music but we never heard that from him before’

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
-I record, produce and mix my music all by myself, at home. This is a very quiet place even with my children playing around! I I can spend months on one song when I am not completely happy with my work, or a copple of hours for both composing and recording, for instance ‘I am a piece’; it was on an afternoon, I just sat on the piano and played the song all in one go.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
-Shipwrecks, Maven, Taur, Silent whale becomes a dream and many others…!

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
-I am working on covers for Musicformessier and Release The Long Ships. Making a cover for a band like Godspeed would be just… I can’t find the words, sorry!

Q: What´s the plans for future....
-Several gigs in the Elsass, we are working on something with a wonderful post-rock band from Germany, but I can’t say more! ‘I am a piece of you’ will be featured in the soundtrack of a short-film. The album ‘Pieces of You – The Piano Works’ will be released on 20th March 2015 (CD and digital album), this is actually the volume 2. The volume 2 will be released (I hope) on quarter 3.

Q: Any parting words?
-Thank you for making the project grow !

Wave of a Mutilation with High Tide 15:47 - An Interview

Apaixonante.

***** Interview with High Tide 15:47 *****

Q. When did High Tide 15:47 started, tell us about the history...
The band’s been going for a few years now in various forms, the first gigs were just Steve and Dan swapping on drums and guitar, then I joined after about a year to play bass. We’ve had a couple of line up changes since then, we invited Hannah to record vocals on Shade of Blue from the EP and ended up asking her to join. This current line up is definitely our best so far I’d say.

Q: Who are your influences?
We’re all into a lot of different stuff so our influences are pretty varied. Our most obvious influences are probably the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, shoegaze sort of stuff, but we take influence from a whole range of genres. Steve likes a lot of post-rock stuff and Dan’s big on his psychedelic music. We also share a mutual love of old school hip hop, you can’t really hear that in the music much though.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
My personal five would be:
Grace by Jeff Buckley,
The Stone Roses debut album,
Doolittle by The Pixies,
Disintegration by The Cure and
Boxer by The National.

I think the other three would probably pick completely different answers to me though.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
It’s great, especially playing some of the more uptempo numbers like Too Much Time Alone. I just don’t like the before and after part, the sooner we get some roadies the better!

Q. How do you describe High Tide 15:47 sounds?
I generally say that we’re noisy and dreamy, but I guess it’s better for people to listen to the records themselves and make their own minds up.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
For the EP we recorded more or less everything ourselves onto my laptop with just a couple of microphones, it didn’t sound fantastic though so we took it to Mick Ross who worked his studio magic with it.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Locally there’s bands like Tissue Culture and Tessera Skies making some great stuff. Shades are pretty good too, a fair bit heavier than us but they’re still cool. Class live band too.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
I dunno! We’ve never really put proper thought into doing a cover, we did an all covers show once which was pretty fun but apart from that we’ve always just tried to focus on our own stuff.

Q: What’s the plan for the future?
We’re gonna work with Mick Ross again and put some new stuff out soon, excited about that. Hopefully we’ll go on tour around the UK in the Summer too.

Q: Any parting words?
For musicians I’d say to always try to do what you think is the right thing to do, don’t compromise what you’re about. But generally I’d say try not to take life too seriously and enjoy yourself while you can. Don’t let the bastards get you down. Hakuna Matata.

Taste the Floor with Last Movement - An Interview

Agora é a vez do Last Movement aterrizar nas páginas do TBTCI.

Futuro grandioso pros caras.

***** Interview with Last Movement *****

Q. When did Last Movement started, tell us about the history...
Anth: The band has been around since years already, but the first release has come out last year in 2014 with the 7” New Love/Feels Like You. Let’s say that from 2011 to 2014 have been years of adjustement, and we spent time finding our sound and our personal musical style, writing the first songs and building up a repertory. Also, the line up has changed many times before arriving to the members we are nowaday. Like any band, I believe, at the beginning.

Q: Who are your influences?
Anth: The whole dreampop and shoegaze scene between the late '80 and mid '90, a lot of neo-psychedelia and nu-gaze American and European stuff of the latest 10 years, and obviously essential bands like My Bloody Valentine, Jesus & Mary Chains, Spacemen 3, Loop, Ride, Slowdive, Sonic Youth etc.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
my bloody valentine - loveless
jesus and mary chains - psychocandy
cocteau twins - head over heels
spacemen 3 - sound of confusion
fields of nephilim - elizium

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Sound vortex open perception’s doors, music is a universal language, we try to reproduce in small scale what in happens since always in cosmos.

Q. How do you describe Last Movement sounds?
Anth: "Last Movement is a three pieces band based in Rome, Italy. Their music is a noisy blend between psychedelic shoegazer pop and space rock killer sound". I think our web used description it’s a good synthesis of the LM sound. At the beginning we were way more into dreampop and linked to wave and some musical solutions from the eighties, but we quickly left that approach, so that now space rock and new psychedelia are primary elements to our sound.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
Anth: The songwriting process happens in our rehearsal room, when arrangements are almost done we work fully in the studio. Until now, the full production of the band has been recorded and mixed at Black Tape Studio.

Q: What´s the plan for the future....
Anth: We are ultimating the production of our first album, as soon as we’re done, it will be time to shoot some video clips. The idea is to find a label and a booking agency to spread the word the more we can. Also, by April 2015 there will be the release of the 12” Your Icon [remix] for Love Blast, a Techno music Label.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended
Anth: There's a lot of very good stuff around, recently I'm listening to Cult of Dom Keller, White Hills, Follakzoid, Electric Moon, The Cosmic Dead, Giobia, Elephant Stone and many more.

Q: Any parting words?
Thanks for this interview, more news for the band very soon, you can follow us on Facebook [www.facebook.com/LastMovementband], Soundcloud [www.soundcloud.com/lastmovement] and on Bandcamp [www.lastmovement.bandcamp.com]. Stay Tuned!

Exterminators with Black Sugar Transmission - An Interview

***** Interview with Black Sugar Transmission *****

Q. When did BST start, tell us about the history...
It started as a sort of solo project in 2007 after my previous band, pOp*stAr*kiDs, broke up. It has turned into a musical collective with a wide variety of other musicians brought in as contributors to the recordings. It is also a fully-functioning live band (featuring John Clancy on drums and Ava Farber on bass/vocals).

Q: Who are your influences?
The postpunk bands of the late 1970s/early 1980s (from The Cure to Jesus & Mary Chain), hard rock/metal (Motorhead, Jane's Addiction, etc), electronic music (from Basement Jaxx to Squarepusher) and Prince.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
The Cure - Disintegration
Daft Punk - Homework
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
PRML SCRM - Xtrmntr

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I love it, although, being a perfectionist, I am rarely satisfied with any performance.

Q. How do you describe BST´s sounds?
Highly destructive dance rock

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
My approach to the new album Violent Muses was to sit down and write at least one instrumental song idea each day until I had 25 or 30 of them to choose from. Then I picked my favorite 13 or so, put them in an album running order and wrote/recorded lyrics/vocal melodies for them. Finally, I asked guest musicians to play on the tracks. This album features John Clancy (drums), Ava Farber (vocals), Leon Gruenbaum (Samchillian Tip Tip Tip Chee Peeee), Timo Ellis (drums), Adam James (bass) and Jimmy Lopez (exotic percussion)

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Little Dragon, Nikki & the Dove, Dum Dum Girls, The Netherlands

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Glove, Jellyfish, Squeeze, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Bee Gees. You can listen to them here: https://soundcloud.com/bstcovers

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Releasing a series of studio reports about the making of Violent Muses, and ultimately releasing the album itself in early 2015, hopefully with a record release show.

Q: Any parting words?
Support authenticity, boycott mediocrity!

Prove It with Ambros Chapel - An Interview

***** Interview with Ambros Chapel *****

When did Ambros Chapel started? Tell us about the history…
Ambros Chapel began with Pablo (vocals and guitars) and Alfred (bass) meeting to play and to amuse themselves. These moments were used as distraction and also to let their artistic expressions, tastes and influences out. As ideas were taking form and the style was perfected, there arose the idea of create a band to show these inexperienced songs to a public. Progressively new members joined to this project, they chose a name and the idea of having a band was consolidated.

Who are your influences?
All rock and pop music of the last four decades has influenced us in creating music.

The band draws on the influences of the component members at the time, and although there are a number of groups in which all agree (The Doors, Bowie, The Cure, Joy Division) then privately each one of us has his own favourite style, more rock, or pop or gothic... This lack of prejudice when listening to the music, and the fact that the band is open to incorporating other nuances, makes the music benefit, because it makes our music to be different to other bands.

Make of list of 5 albums of all time…
Disintegration ( The Cure )
Ok Computer (Radiohead)
Strange Days ( The Doors )
Talking Book ( Stevie Wonder )
Grace ( Jeff Buckley )

How do you feel playing live?
For us playing live is the ultimate goal, the moment when it empties all the work you do in the rehearsal . When you show the songs to the public is when it all makes sense.

The stage is where we meet as a group and makes us feel comforted. The synergy that is created on stage is difficult to compare with anything else and it´s very addictive. We enjoyed playing live and knowing different places.

How do you describe Ambros Chapel sound?
Our sound is the result of the combination of the four members of the band. Although there are a number of common nuances in our music that makes us recognizable, each record includes arrangements or sounds that make them different. The new album "The Last Memories" reaffirms that Ambros Chapel´s touch, a pop-rock elegant and darkly.

Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
When we entered the studio to record the album the songs were closely studied. We use to record a demo that helps us to arrange and dispose parts we do not like. In this new work Facundo Novo has brought his vision of the band's sound although he did not know us previously. That freshness has helped songs to be better and more direct.

Which new bands do you recommended?
Nowadays there are a lot of great bands to be recommended, I think we live in a moment when musicians use to mix all kind of styles to create their music.

I’d recommend Popstrangers, Twin Shadow, Grizzly Bear, St. Vincent or Sleep ∞ Over.

Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
We have already covered many of our favourite bands, in fact, this year we included a song by The Church (“Welcome”) in a Spanish tribute album. Anyway, if we were to cover any band right now we’d probably choose The Doors.

What´s the plans for future…
Promote this new album around everywhere we can and continue to grow as a group. Upload step by step in our particular way.

Any parting words?
Listen to our music, give it a try, and you will not forget it.

Autumn Sweater with Blue Herons - An Interview

***** Interview with Blue Herons *****

Q. When did Blue Herons started, tell us about the history...
1. Blue Herons is a solo project that marked the point when I decided to really push myself to get my music out into the world about half a year ago. It's really a new thing and I am really happy that people seem to be responding positively to it at this point.

Q: Who are your influences?
2. I'm influenced a lot by 90s bands like My Bloody Valentine, Pavement, Radiohead, and Yo La Tengo. I also really like 60s pop songs and Golden Oldies type music. Of course, I love more recent bands like Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and Deerhunter as well. As cliche as this sounds, it's really hard for me to list all my influences because I really like a wide variety of music, but I feel like these artists are the main inspiration for my sound.

Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
3. Loveless - My Bloody Valentine,
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement,
OK Computer - Radiohead,
Pet Sounds - Beach Boys,
Feels - Animal Collective

Q. How do you feel playing live?
4. Playing live is great, I just like messing around and making mildy funny jokes into the microphone.

Q. How do you describe Blue Herons sounds?
5. I would describe Blue Herons as sounding dreamy, with a definite shoegaze undercurrent but with more dynamics and a heavier influence from other types of alternative rock than most shoegaze bands tend to have.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
6. I record all the songs in my studio apartment into my laptop. I pretty much record a basic track and then listen to it to figure out where I want to take the song. Many of the songs have tons of guitar overdubs. Many times I have 4 or 5 guitar overdubs playing at once.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
7. The new Viet Cong album is really good. I thought Benji by Sun Kil Moon was great, his lyrical style really made me uncomfortable (in a good way).

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
8. I like to cover older songs and try to re-imagine them as more modern sounding. For a while I've been thinking about covering "If You Want to Be a Bird" by the Holy Modal Rounders.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
9. At this point I'm just gonna try to keep making new songs, play more shows, and hopefully find a label that is interesting in signing me.

Q: Any parting words?
10. Thanks for interviewing me! Free Tibet.

I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One with Babbling April - An Interview

***** Interview with Babbling April *****

Q. When did Babbling April started, tell us about the history...
Babbling April originally started in my college dorm room in 2011. Back then it was all bedroom recordings, my college was in a small town without an indie music scene to speak of, so holding a band together wasn't much of an option. Since then, I moved to Dayton, and little did I know but southwest Ohio is like a mecca for burgeoning indie rock bands. There is a great network of musicians and venues here that are all very supportive of new bands, so it worked perfectly to put the band together and take the music to the stage. Some of the songs on the new EP originated out of those old one man demos.

Q: Who are your influences?
The biggest is Yo La Tengo. The diversity their albums have while still retaining a cohesive feel is something I really aspire too. Built to Spill and Broken Social Scene both weigh heavily in the mix as well.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
Yo La Tengo - Painful
Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat
White Denim - Last Day of Summer

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Playing live is absolutely liberating. "Girl Ima' Babe" is a blast to rip through. After that song I always have to take a minute to remember where I am and how I got there. There is no other feeling quite like losing yourself in that moment.

Q. How do you describe Babbling April sounds?
Its fuzzy and noisy but poppy and sweet. Sugary pop and crunchy rock drenched in a post-rock syrup.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
I recorded these songs in my apartment. We did the drums in our guitar player Lee's garage. I am very happy with the way it came out given the limitations we had in making it. Unfortunately professional studio time isn't really in our budget. Between myself and drummer Stephen Yokley, we have a pretty decent collection of mic's and gear. Steve mastered the album on reel-to-reel tape which gives a warmth to the final project that otherwise might have been lost by doing the whole thing into a laptop.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended
Stephen and I used to play in a Dayton band called Speaking Suns who are absolutely brilliant. Their new record "Vanishing Country" is a must own. Vivi also has some friends in the DC band Paperhaus and their new record blew me away. It was recorded completely to tape and the guitar tones all over that record are just so crunchy and glorious.

Q: Which bands would you love to make a cover version of?
We cover The Clash which is really fun. I would love to be able to do a cover of White Denim, principally because that would mean that I could play as well as White Denim... those guys are animals.

Q: What´s the plan for the future....
Currently we are writing the LP. Keep an eye out for it in early 2016.

Q: Any parting words?
Just to say thanks for questions and keep up the great work with the blog! And if anyone happens to be rolling through Dayton to stop out and see some local music- you won't be disappointed. Cheers!

Pink Moon with Wild Echo - An Interview

***** Interview with Wild Echo *****

Q When did Wild Echo start?
Wild Echo started as Ben and Mike mainly just jamming away in Manchester around 2012, we didn't really have a name at the time, but we were very influenced by bands such as Beach Fossils and began re-creating their reverb sounds. Mike recruited Kamil as he was a drummer who had played a lot together in a University band, by which a weekend jam session brought out songs like "endless" and "when the light lands". Originally the band was called Gulls, and took a further year and a half to recruit Pali as a singer and Rudy as a second guitarist. We quickly made songs such as "In dreams" as a band and hit the studio in early 2014. The EP "In dreams" was really a collection of works from the 2012 sessions, group efforts and solo bedroom recordings which brought about the spine of the EP. We wanted to create a collection of songs to almost be drawn into a dream like state and taken on a ride of emotion ranging from topic of love to loss.

Q: Who are your influences?
We generally love the label captured tracks and the bands they've produced; Beach fossils, DIIV, Wild Nothing. Some of our more shoegaze elements have been influenced by bands such as MBV and slowdive, even with hints of modern dreamy bands such as Beach House. Our singer Pali is actually majorly influenced by folk artists such as the fleet foxes, perhaps where he gets his darker sounding lyrics from.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time
We chose one for every member
Kamil - Radiohead - In Raindbows
Ben - Neil Young - Tonight's the night
Rudy - ESG - Sailin' Da South
Mike - Beach House - Teen Dream
Pali - Nick Drake - Pink Moon

Q. How do you feel playing live?`
We originally had terrible luck on stage with at least one of us having a major technical meltdown. We played a gig in West London at the Notting hill arts club, where Ben's Bass literally exploded, was like a scene from This is Spinal Tap. Since then, we have got better and started enjoying it more. Playing our first festival "Farr festival" was certainly a highlight last summer

Q. How do you describe Wild Echo sounds?
A dreamy blend of sunkissed, jangly melodies with stormy undertones. Full bodied, warm and complex. Goes well with fish

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We actually recorded in a budget studio in the Roundhouse Camden. We spent 4/5 day recording all the parts, which proved both challenging but also fun. We in truth recorded the EP without fully knowing the tracks, instead we used the studio time to collaborate and bring all the songs together. We recorded individually and layered the tracks until we felt we had enough to go on, all done through a power mixing console using logic pro. The mixing process was a combination of self mixed songs by Rudy such as Deep Water, a roundhouse studio engineer mixing songs such as Endless, and we managed to get mixing done by Ben from the UK rock band - Lower than Atlantis. The mixing process took a lot longer then expected. Anyways finally we mastered the tracks at Big Tones studio in Manchester.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Corbu, Faroe, Traams

Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Although our music tastes massively vary, Wild Echo are hitting the studios again to record a Brian Jonestown classic, "Anemone", we rock it up quite a bit, so keep your ears posted for that

Q: What´s the plans for future ?
We hope to play a few festivals this summer, release a new song we have had written last year, and generally plan out a second EP. Maybe make a crazy psychedelic EP next... who knows...

Q: Any parting words?
When are you inviting us to play in Brazil....
